Nice review and good info, the PSVR2 itself sounds awesome and the Horizon VR game sounded pretty much how I expected-- real nice graphics, but gameplay that is better for VR noobs and not experienced players. 8 hour campaign though, that's not bad for a VR noob game, and having good intro games is important as well. Thanks for the info about the haptics as well!
Went for the bundle at pre-order - glad it looks like the right call. Solid review and it looks awesome even without the 3D of actually playing it. Look forward to your next reviews as we get through the launch window. Roll on next week!
The main reason Resi 8 would be a poor bundle at launch is mainly down to the fact that most people probably already own it and the upgrade to the VR version is free. Better to have something fully new.
The fights are basically using the same mechanism as Zelda OoT intoduced, auto activated in this case, Z-targeting. I understand this choice because you never loose track of the enemy so you can't get killed from behind. Having to turn around as quick as possible is something only experienced VR players can stomach, and this game is clearly a showcase of sorts meant to be comfortable for those who just jumped into VR. Kinda dissapointing for seasoned players like myself but i'm not going to let that temper my excitement. Everything pointed towards compromises like this. It looks fenomemal and i'm sure i'm going to enjoy the hell out of it when my preorder arrives! Clear and unbiased review, keep it up man!
So it’s a climbing sim with some bow mechanics. I picked this up but my expectations aren’t all that high. Got the tech demo vibes way back when they first showed this off.
Just what I said. Unfortunately, this is a tech demo. What’s worse is on Tuesday we will be getting horizon forbidden west on Ps5 via ps extra and that is clearly way better then call of the mountain. I hope saints and sinners and switchback, aren’t as much of a disappointment. It was clear for ages that call of the mountain wasn’t even a proper game and the clue is the fact that Sony have never showed any gameplay. Nothing but that boat sequence. I knew it wouldn’t be 40 hours and I was fine but I hoped we’d get more. Thank god I have resident evil village.
@@grahamkelly8662 Switch back is on rails (literally). Call of the Mountain I was always very skeptical because of the lack of gameplay footage. Saints and Sinners 2 if u like the first one it will be good. More of the same. Honestly HorizonVR made me not pre-order a PSVR2. I'm just completely done with VR, on rails, tech demos. Was thinking this could be like a shorter Asgard's Wrath but instead its literally what you said a climbing sim, with on rails bow combat. Guess I'm gonna wait. RE:Village looks fine but I already played the VR Mod on PCVR.
@@chan13153 I’m actually totally fine with switchback being on rails. I’ve never played vr and to be on a rollercoaster, at night with monsters and crap, with guns, just sounds really really fun and I look forward to similar games. But I admit that I should never have never ordered Horizon bundle. I just hope that the graphics, first time in vr and immersion, is enough at least for me to have some fun and maybe some wow moments. The combat is really disappointing but to be honest, regular combat wouldn’t work with vr headset on. Like I don’t think we’ll see call of duty etc on vr, it’s way too fast paced. I just hope that Sony does what works and well. I’m also thankful that in last few years, I’ve got into smaller lesser known and indie games and I’m sure psvr2 will have loads of them.
@@grahamkelly8662 Actually regular combat works great in VR. Theres many games that do it really well such as Blade and Sorcery and Asgards Wrath. Asgards Wrath is literally the closest thing to God of War in VR there is and the game is amazing. As for CODvr, it basically exist already and its amazing. Check out a game called ContractorsVR. The game literally has Call of duty maps and guns and its multiplayer. Tons of people play it. Game has tons of mod and literally is also HaloVR, BattlefrontVR. It works so well in VR that I no longer can go back to playing COD on flatscreen. Even mouse and keyboard doesn't compare to how good it is in VR. I'm a VR vet who owns a PSVR1, Rift CV1, and a Quest 2 paired with a 3080 gaming PC. I went through the whole on rails, wave shooter phase of VR and I now want only full games. I'm just 100% done with tech demo type games.
You can see the foveated rendering happening *really* easily in this capture footage, which is super cool-looks aggressive too because of the graphical fidelity.
Looks stunning!! Love to see the Horizon world right infront of my eyes! And as always, the machines are always the best part of the game !😉😆, thanks for the review, can't wait to pick this up!
Can you measure the maximum IPD setting? You will need a tape measure. I need to know and no one seems to cover this. I have a large IPD and I don't want to get the headset if the IPD is not large enough.
Appreciate the psvr2 coverage a lot. Having seen just a bit of it, I'm almost more curious about resident evil here than this, it sounds a bit more fleshed out and robust.
@@unmei9055 He ain't lying. VR with the screen so close you eyes 4K doesn't look 4K in VR compared to a TV/Monitor. 4K looks standard definition in VR.

while I had hoped this game would be more, I'm not really surprised, nor disappointed. Since I'm new to VR, and a HUGE Horizon fan, this game will probably be a very great introduction for me.
I've played for about 3 hours and am close to half way. After playing so many short half baked PSVR 1 games I've had no less than 5 moments where I've assumed it's the end and I'm only just coming close to half way 😂 it's really good, just waiting for a more open experience with similar gameplay to be made for this thing. Hell, imagine something just like this, maybe toned down the graphics to make way for a less restrictive/linear exploration based game
In my opinion, True rival of Half life Alyx will be GT7 and RE village, not Call of the mountain...cause as pretty as it looks, call of the mountain is more of a tech demo while GT7 and RE8 will be the full fledged AAA games we desperately need for VR
Great video dude. Can't wait. Will defo disable aim assist. I assume the controllers are accurate tracking enough to get good with just your own skill?
Nice work 👍🏽. Sounds fun and looks great. When playing a game I’m looking to be entertained and definitely not perfection as no game ever will be. From the sound of what I just watched this game ticks all those boxes and I can’t wait to finally immerse myself into the world of Horizon.
I don't think that, but I believe this was meant to be a vr game for anyone old enough to try vr. I think they want this game to be a good experience for someone who has never tried vr before and someone that has been playing it for years. I think vr veterans will prefer RE8 vr, though I still think I will really like this game. I'm really hoping for a Ghost of Tsushima psvr2 game. Swords, bows, bombs and stealth, I think that should be their next vr IP. Well either that or a Naughty Dog game, Last of Us remake in vr would also be tons of fun.
I played Zero Dawn but never got to Forbidden West because Elden Ring. Should I bother to play Forbidden West first or just play it after? I can't find many details on the actual story.
Thanks for confirming my choice in the bundle! Lol I'm pretty excited for this game. I do wish we had the option to move around freely in combat since I've been playing VR games for a long time. But this is one of my favorite series and I'm excited to see it in VR! Glad it's actually a good game! I'm sure later games will push it more as launch titles are usually basic. Here's to hoping we get more Horizon in VR!
Confirmed my choice too, however for me the lack of free movement during combat and the fact that 70% of the game is a climbing simulator made not decide not to pick up a PSVR2 just yet. Game looks too much like a tech demo to me. After playing real VR games like Half Life Alyx, Asgard's Wrath, ContractorsVR, Onward, Into the Radius, Lies Beneath, Stormland, Red Matter, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, Boneworks etc I just can't go back to Gen 1 style VR games from 2017 which was more like, on rails tech demos than full games. This may look like a game from 2023 but the gameplay matches a VR game from 2017.
@Chan yeah I'm use to those style of games as well, so it is disappointing that the combat doesn't have free movement. But I do disagree it's just a tech demo, just a different kind of gameplay. I love climbing in VR. Personally it still seems awesome to me. There are still other great games as well like RE8 which the port looks far superior to the mod to me. But hey, we all have our own opinions. What I find fun others may not. With no other company pushing high end VR and the popularity of the Quest 2 making PCVR become stagnant, I hope the PSVR2 becomes very successful and helps push high end VR gaming
@@Oblivion486 I hope PSVR2 becomes successful. I'm very much into VR games. I literally had the PSVR2 in my cart as I was watching gameplay footage of HorizonVR and I was just so disappointed. And being that I already have Quest 2 with a 3080 Gaming PC none of the third party games can justify the purchase.
@Chan that's definitely fair. Yeah I hadn't finished RE8 on PCVR because I stopped when I heard an official port was coming to the PSVR2, so fortunately I'll be able to go into that fairly fresh. And I'm excited for GT7, but if you're not into racing games than that won't sway you. Outside of a few games, the launch titles are a little underwhelming for us who have played PCVR for awhile. The first Firewall was one of the best multiplayer shooters in my opinion. I'm also looking forward to Switchback because I love horror.
@@Oblivion486 Depending on how good firewall ultra is that might be the game to tip the scale for me. Like I said I've been really trying to find an excuse to get the PSVR2. That and GT7vr might be enough to justify a purchase.
Pretty much what I expected, wasn't convinced on the gameplay matching the quality of the visuals and interactivity from the start, I'll be waiting for a sale personally. Maybe if I had played Horizon at all I would have seen it differently but yeah, I want to experience this game but not at that price.
Great review and a treat to wake up to. I am trying to finish the first Horizon game before launch day. I was happy to see Forbidden West coming free to ps plus on the 21st as well. I got the call of the mountain bundle and this review made me happy i did. Keep up the great work and don’t worry about the people claiming spoilers. They literally said that Alloy would be in the game previously as a person you would meet so blame spoilers on Sony lol!!
I can’t wait, I brought the bundle. How much of a step up in terms of graphics is it compared to PSVR and Quest. These are the only headsets I’ve used and played. So I’m really looking forward to a ‘next gen’ wow moment. By all the videos it looks incredible.
As a big Horizon fan, this looks like the perfect VR game. While I'm not planning on getting PSVR2 just yet, this will remain a must play for me whenever I jump in.
Great review GT! I can’t wait for my psvr2 to get here. What kind of capture card you use to record/stream? And will it be possible to play at 120fps while you record? I think nobody has mentioned anything about that.
I have indeed ordered the bundle and I can’t wait. However GT7 is going to get so much attention from me and the announcement that it was getting the free PSVR2 update was what convinced me to part with this big chunk of change!
As a huge horizon fan, all these cons you mentioned seemed like pros. Like I wanna climb mountains and be immersed in the horizon world, I wanna go back just to do things and nothing important, just to explore and live in the world of horizon. One thing I don’t like is that you can only dash side to side in combat. I kind of wanted to dodge my just running out of the way, but it still sounds fun
Great review GT ,I wasn't a big fan of the flat Horizon games tbh so I'm giving this a miss but your review told me exactly what I thought it would be like ,maybe I'll buy it in the future ,I'm sure it's gonna sell well though
I ordered the bundle just because I enjoy Horizon and it's world and want to see it up close. Hopefully this game is just the start for this franchise and maybe we'll get something more substantial. I've been playing VR for many years and definitely look forward to this experience.
70% climbing and I don't like climbing. Yiykes. It feels like they added so much climbing as filler tbh. That's why I prefer when they just mod a full game for VR like NMS or Skyrim VR.
I'm glad I got the bundle now GT! Thanks for the awesome review. I have a lot of family n friends who are VR noobs and this will certainly entertain them.
Thank you for watching the review my Final Fight loving friend. It’s pains me to think you beat me up after saving Jessica, but I realise now I was rude to her and that upset you… *pssp I’m pretending to be Cody because I thought he was cooler than Guy* 😬
Reminds me a little bit of Wolfenstein Cyberpilot. Everyone wanted Wolfenstein in VR, but instead they made a completely different game set in the Wolfenstein universe. For newcomers to VR maybe good introduction, but non VR gamers will question why VR games are so limited, compared to the flat version (same as Doom VFR vs Doom 2016) .
I'm not sure if you've addressed this directly, but it seems like the game is fairly linear, as opposed to the open-world nature of the non-VR Horizon games. If this true?
Damn, wasn't really interested in PSVR2 but this video made me want to buy one. Guess ill be getting both a PS5 and PSVR2. This brings me back to to 2019-2020, it felt like a new era of VR when we got the games like Half Life: Alyx, TWD: S&S, Boneworks and others. Can't wait man, thanks for this amazing review GT
I think if you watch this in 480p resolution you'll get an idea of the game quality. It's much better than PSVR but higher UA-cam resolutions of 1080p etc make the game look a lot sharper than it is. That being said, it's still great. RE Village has some great moments... the baby for example, ugh.
Hi GT £60 quid for this game, i’m not gonna rush to buy it because I’ve got a few already lined up I really want to play, especially resident evil 8 I will wait to see you once the dust settles you might get it in the sale!!
FYI resident evil village has sold about 9 million copies where as horizon zero dawn is at about 20 million so it is a bigger name apparently. I just googled it but it might not be accurate 🤷♂️
Agreed. This will not convince any flat screen gamers / horizon fans to get PSVR2. They really should have simply ported the original horizon games to VR. Hopefully they will do that at some point.
I really liked this review, but im still not sure if the question in the title is answered. Does this game rival Half Life Alyx? or is Alyx still the very best adventure/FPS game in VR? @gamertag VR
This + RE8 Village look like they are the first games that can truly rival Alyx after 3 years. I am really considering getting a PSVR2, even though I am waiting for the Valve Deckard to finally come out (or atleast get some news).
I disagree. This game may look like a game from 2023 but the game looks like it plays like a game from 2017. On rails combat with no full locomotion (during combat) almost completely killed my enthusiasm for this game. And the fact that 90% of the game is a climbing simulator. Lost all enthusiasm for this game and PSVR2 (For now). Graphics wise this game looks like a big AAA VR game that rivals Half Life Alyx and Asgards Wrath but gameplay wise this game is stuck in 2017 and doesn't come close. I wouldn't even put this above something like Saints and Sinners. I would place it much below that. I would place this game next to DoomVFR. DoomVFR I would say is the best comparison to this game. A game with pretty AAA graphics completely ruined by the terrible to much hand holding limiting controls. RE:VillageVR looks good though.
Thanks for watching

I got the call of the mountain bundle and this review made me happy i did. Keep up the great work and don’t worry about the people claiming spoilers. They literally said that Alloy would be in the game previously as a person you would meet so blame spoilers on Sony lol!!
Thanks dude. At least someone is up on current affairs. Sony said I could mention Aloy but not her role.
For me story is the #1 consideration. Invisible Hours is still my favorite. How much bite does the story have?
It’s good in places and does it’s job
I was about to ask if you could show some PSVR2 gameplay of Zenith. Just want to see what the graphics look like.
Wohoo! It's real!
Great review GT! I can’t wait for my psvr2 to get here. What kind of capture card you use to record/stream? And will it be possible to play at 120fps while you record? I think nobody has mentioned anything about that.
Recording is implemented in ps5.
You can record on PS5 but it’s a bit weird apparently so I use a 4K pro Mk2
I know what you're saying about res evil coz I got it waiting but call of the mountain does look good. Fair review as always bro nice one!
Thanks dude
I have indeed ordered the bundle and I can’t wait. However GT7 is going to get so much attention from me and the announcement that it was getting the free PSVR2 update was what convinced me to part with this big chunk of change!
When is this update out do you know ?
@@niallsmith9375 GT7 update on Feb 21
Again, great video. Five days, fourteen hours & thirty-nine minutes away.
Cheers man 😉 turn those notifications on will ya!
2:17 yay I love to smash things I hope there’s loads of this in Vr it looks cool
I ordered the bundle just because I enjoy Horizon and it's world and want to see it up close. Hopefully this game is just the start for this franchise and maybe we'll get something more substantial. I've been playing VR for many years and definitely look forward to this experience.
Excellent review GT! Thanks for your thoughts!
Thank you
Great video! Can’t wait to get my bundle!
Can’t wait for everyone to jump in
I Pre ordered The Bundle can't wait to play this one. Great Review. Thank you for sharing. :)
Thanks for watching
Great review mate, we can hear the passion oozing from your voice 👌🏾
Thanks man! 🤗
Thanks for this! Excellent review. I don’t have a ps5, but now I know that if this ever comes to the pc, I’ll be grabbing it!
Thanks for watching
70% climbing and I don't like climbing. Yiykes. It feels like they added so much climbing as filler tbh. That's why I prefer when they just mod a full game for VR like NMS or Skyrim VR.
Straight to the point without setting up any spoiler warning that you get to Meet Aloy. Not that it should be a huge surprise anyway
Are you gonna do a Light Brigade Review? If yes, when???
Great review GT I'm looking forward to horizon as many other games only problem is what to play first.
I'm glad I got the bundle now GT! Thanks for the awesome review. I have a lot of family n friends who are VR noobs and this will certainly entertain them.
Thanks Secrets 🙏 appreciate you being here
Man GT, i am so jealous! Wonderful Review and i cant wait to play this one myself! Thanks GT for getting me more excited!
Any time!
Hey GT a Greek reviewer said that when he was aiming if he didnt look exactly where he was targeting then the arrow wasnt so accurate!
Do i need to have played the first horizon game? cause ive tried it but i just found it a bit boring the gameplay at least the story seemed cool
Great review gt I am looking forward to watching all your reviews on psvr2 titles going forward
If you don't need your headset let me know mate
Hype!!! Thanks for the review GT.
Thank you for watching the review my Final Fight loving friend. It’s pains me to think you beat me up after saving Jessica, but I realise now I was rude to her and that upset you… *pssp I’m pretending to be Cody because I thought he was cooler than Guy* 😬
I blame you for cancelling my Playstation VR2 preorder and reordering the bundle instead . Damnit man! Great review btw
🙌 I’ll take the blame when your jaw drops when you see this game
Pre ordered the bundle!!! Can't wait. When is the RE8 review?
As soon as the patch goes live
Well done review. This really helped me decide if I want to buy this game.
Appreciate it
Reminds me a little bit of Wolfenstein Cyberpilot.
Thank you dude xxxx
Awesome review as always Gamertag VR! Can't wait til mine is shipped to me!!
Can't wait to start playing!
Yes, incredible... but was there in fact a mountain that called you during your adventures, and what did it have to say?
Thanks for the review GT. I love the Clib and so do the kids so I have a feeling this one is going to be a hit around here.
Thanks for watching dude
Fantastic! Thanks GT.
The big seller with the vr2 for me is gt7, playing that game on the daily either way
Looking forward to play it.
No foveated rendering?
Yes foveated rendering
I think if you watch this in 480p resolution you'll get an idea of the game quality. It's much better than PSVR but higher UA-cam resolutions of 1080p etc make the game look a lot sharper than it is. That being said, it's still great. RE Village has some great moments... the baby for example, ugh.
"Battle Mode" I like that term and I'm not biased at all. 😈
😂
Hey gamertag when is co op comeing to primal hunt
Thanks for your honest review.
Appreciate you watching
Great review fam!!
Appreciate that
Great review. Looking forward to playing this game.
Hi GT
£60 quid for this game, i’m not gonna rush to buy it because I’ve got a few already lined up I really want to play, especially resident evil 8 I will wait to see you once the dust settles you might get it in the sale!!
FYI resident evil village has sold about 9 million copies where as horizon zero dawn is at about 20 million so it is a bigger name apparently. I just googled it but it might not be accurate 🤷♂️
Great review, can't wait to play it
Have fun!
I love to see it! 😍
Doesn't look like it's the flagship game that PSVR2 needs at this point. Shame but I hope there's some exciting surprise announcements coming soon.
Agreed.
This will not convince any flat screen gamers / horizon fans to get PSVR2.
They really should have simply ported the original horizon games to VR. Hopefully they will do that at some point.
I'm so stroke. Can't wait for 22nd
Good honest review 👍.
Would have been nice if there were more weapons, more variety and more challenge
wow wow wow so amazing
Kind of rough how expensive this is, unless you get it bundled in, i find it difficult to justify getting it for £60.
I really liked this review, but im still not sure if the question in the title is answered. Does this game rival Half Life Alyx? or is Alyx still the very best adventure/FPS game in VR? @gamertag VR
As far as gameplay goes, its nowhere near Half Life Alyx im afraid. Plus HLA has so many great mods on PC that extend the game beyond its story.
The lack of answer tell you . Its a glorified tech demo / introduction for new VR players.
Half Life Alyx set the bar so high I'd not expect this to give it a run for its money.
The visual quality alone is making me want to spend 1000 on a ps5 and PSVR2 😂, great review GT
Cheers dude
Not even close to rival HLA
