- How to replace manual transmission #shifter in BMW 1-Series E87. In my car there was a lot of wear and tear caused by wedding ring. I found replacement on AliExpress that fits my E87 perfectly and it took just 5 minutes to replace the old used shift knob with new one.
You need to put your car into neutral, engage parking brake, pry aluminum trim to access 4 latches holding the leather to disassemble old setup. Once you release it, put it into 2nd or 4th gear, grab it firmly and pull. Be careful not to punch yourself into face. New knob needs to be pressed into place.
This AliExpress replacement knob was about $10-15 including shipment & handling and should fit #BMW E81, E82, E87, E88 models. There are also versions with different design, different number of gears and different gears location.

10 bucks is awesome! The dealer probably takes 10 times that for this part...
thanks, ordered an alibaba special for £15, saving of £135 - thanks!
✌️
HI! I see that the video was made one year ago, does now the shift knob still looks the same? Thanks!
I have ordered myself one of these, great
The shift knob doesn’t come off separately? I need to replace the boot as well?
Hey ya buddy, i do find your videos informative and user friendly, but i do have to suggest you try not to put that sort of strain on the gearbox thru the gear stick,
Yes 99 times out of 100 it wont cause any noticeable difference or damage,
but various forms of damage can occur to the gear selector mechanism and possibly other damage depending on design,
In this case i would heat up the gear knob with a hairdryer as it may take longer but also takes a little longer to damage by melting etc which can occur with heat guns if distracted and would hopfully pull off easily,
If you live in a cooler climate it will be harder to get off then if you lived in a hot one
if that wouldnt be enough i would lock the gear stick in some manner so all external forces are corrected,
such as a clamp belt setup,
clamping on below the gear knob to the gear shaft and setting up belts so all lateral and vertical forces go thru the clamp and belts rather then the mechanism
Just putting this out there because its not a nice world and somebody would try to lay blaim because they couldnt do it and refuse to accept blaim for there actions,
Again mr-fix keep up the work
Bro! Thanks for the advice! I smacked it but didn’t work. The knew knob couldn’t fit and always came down while I was driving... Im gonna try to heat the knew knob with a hair dryer and put it on again.
yeah, I read similar thing somewhere else on the internet.. how stupid and inconvenient for bmw to decide to glue the knob
Very good - thank you so much!
✌️
Can you make more video’s off the E39? Love your videos
Unfortunately I don't have access to E39 anymore. And E87 is going to be sold soon, as I already got Golf Mk7. Still having E84 X1 in family.
@@mrfixpl u gonna sell the 1 series? How mani km do u have?
yeah, 210kkm on the clock but I'm not the first owner so I can not confirm if this mileage is correct. But more important, the car is in good condition, both mechanical and visual. If it was clocked, then it holding up pretty damn good!
@@mrfixpl Thanks, I follow your videos and I see that 👌
how many km have u donne?
Any timing chain problems or bad news related??
Thanks for the attention 💪
I've done about 40-50kkm in 2,5 years.
No timing chain issues whatsoever. Just need to remember to change the oil sooner than the service reminder comes up, like every 15-20kkm. I believe that all those N47 timing chain issues are caused by faulty timing chain tensioner which is hydraulic and fails to do its job if get clogged by used oil.
Also the X1 is powered with N47 (23d) and also no issues there. So in my experience it's a great engine, you just need to keep the oil fresh so the tensioner can work properly.
I'm sorry.. Is ok for bmw one series convertible? E88? Is good quality? Thank you so much
Da sie wymienic sama plastikowa koncowke bez tej czesci materialowej??
Niestety nie jestem pewien czy będzie się to dało w łatwy sposób zrobić. Nie mam już tego samochodu, żeby sprawdzić.
What seats are those? I haven't seen these in a 1 series in the uk
Sport seats with adjustable side support.
Uchwyty na kubki miales w serii czy gdzies dokupileś?

I nearly knocked myself out doing this
Mine keeps pulling out as I drive and I need to smack it back in
Looks like it wore out.
@@mrfixpl yet I bought it a few weeks ago. Tried reassembling everything yesterday, hopefully it will stay in place for a longer time
@@Agnewia how did it go lol.. I know this is 2 years later, I was wondering if I should change mine, literally the top part is gone now
A zamiast wymieniać to okleić winylem albo wrapem jakimś, przykładowo bezbarwnym. To też jest pomysł
Nie podjąłbym się oklejania tak ukształtowanego, małego i zniszczonego elementu.

How to change autoparts on made in china.
Yo
Maybe OPEN the sun roof as well ..?? ;-)
If I had one I would! 😀
@@mrfixpl Just in case.. Better safe .. than sorry ;-)
you changes gears without the clutch?
Sure, if you rev match first.
@@mrfixpl but you were in the passanger seat and just changed to second and neutral without the clutch
Ah, OK. I see now. Engine is off, handbrake is on, there's no tension on the drivetrain, so I can manipulate the gearbox without clutch.
You use clutch when engine and gearbox speeds are different. But since both engine and gearbox are not moving , one can say that they are in sync.
@@mrfixpl ahhh ok didn’t know
