Lex, please have Danny Rensch on the pod. Coming from a chess lover and a computer scientist, I agree completely with you that it would be so interesting to hear about their cheating algorithm and more from him as a person
Lex a conversation with “Micheal Redmond” 9dan professional in the game of go would be really cool . You could talk about the game of the century “Alphago vs Lee Sedol” and the game of go .
I have a question. Why in the fuck did this channel not get recommended to me before now? This guy interviews a large portion of experts in multiple fields of my interest, and is objectively the best I have seen at doing so. Well, first thing first, excellent channel and wonderful talent on the part of the interviewer. Second thing, fuck the youtube algorithm.
Maaaan, i have never seen any of his podcasts. But this is incredible he asks real questions that really give me something its incredible to listen, big up man ...
Nobody who could rise through the rankings naturally off of their own abilities as fast as Hans did would ever need to cheat. The chess speaks for itself.
Loving all the chess content! It's interesting to see the real personality behind the faces of chess. Levy seems very genuine and honest, especially about giving up competitive chess due to anxiety etc. A chess player's life is like the duck syndrome, calm on the surface and gliding along nicely but underneath you're going a million miles an hour and it's stressful; a weird, complex juxtaposition between perception and reality in the calm game of chess lol
Hell yes, been waiting for this since your podcast with magnus. Now you've checked off kasparov, magnus, the botez sisters, and levy. I'd love to maybe see a Daniel Naroditsky next, or even an Eric Hansen. Keep it up Lex!
I love levy for one of the strangest reasons i don't think i've heard from anyone else, but the thing about his explanations about positions just feels so much more natural to me. The way he explains Chess almost makes me think i can actually understand WHY a situation is good or bad rather than everything looking like a pre-calculated move with thousands of scenarios that have already been played out in the players' heads, which is what happens but i never really got why the positioning of pieces was so important before i started watching him. He leans into a more intuitive understanding of the game rather than memorizing and repeating moves which is usually how people try to teach you how to play, the way people will talk about it is "Okay, just play out as many scenarios in your mind from this situation and see which move looks better." Which just never taught me to look out for openings, why some pieces prefer some very specific positions on the board, and how to advance pawn structures etc, etc. TL;DR is that i find his POV on chess situations much more approachable than any other content creator. Yes i suck at chess, but Levy makes me feel like i can actually understand what's going on.
"If the work was put in I would be a Grandmaster". It's a bit of an unfair statement to make given there are actual Grandmasters out there who DID put in the work. That's the whole difference between anyone and Grandmaster, hard work.
AGADMATOR: Hi Lex, Please invite Agadmator once. He has some enormous amounts of chess history to share. And he’s the most loved person in entire chess community with ZERO haters. Lot of people don’t know his story. I don’t know either. Please do invite him. Also he admires you work a lot.
I don’t like the sound of the term parasocial. I much prefer one side friendship, and Lex you’ve been an incredible one-sided friend since 2018. I’m incredibly thankful for these podcasts. You’ve been there for me through late night runs and drives while I clear my head. You and your guests have kept me company through solo hikes where I’ve been scared senseless questioning my life choices. Being able to sit and listen, not physically of course, to hundreds of deep conversations has been incredible, thank you. If I ever get the honour of bumping into you in person, I’d love to be able to hold it together, not put pressure on you and just say “thank you” or give a respectful head nod that would hopefully get the same message across. However, becoming successful enough at something, to be on your radar and give you a good conversation would be cool too. Incredible gratitude for who you are. Thank you, and I love you brother.
1:23:00 I find that MMORPGs can be pretty wholesome, you can get that skyrim-esque open world exploration, while being part of a community with a lot of moving parts, you're part of something bigger than yourself.
He's very very humble, intelligent, friendly, as well as a very reasonable and rational person. There are so many positive adjectives I could use to describe the man. I enjoy him and the subject matter of his podcasts quite a bit in general. He's a very good interviewer as well. He does a lot of research, and is able to ask very good questions and make a great interviews, regardless of the topic.
Constructive criticism: Lex asked a question about what it takes to become an IM and then I'd expect to know what to get to a GM. But then Levy starts the answer with a comment on the mic and Lex derails the conversation to details on microphones in relation to pods, and they never got back to answering the question. Would appreciate making sure interesting questions get properly answered. Regardless, keep up the great work, and hope to see more chess IMs and GMs around.
Interesting listening to Levy talk about how becoming IM destroyed his motivation. (1:10:52) Sounds so eerily similar to what happened to Ding Liren after winning the world chess championship. Not that I’ve seen that stratospheric level of success but I can def relate to this. Such a strange phenomenon.

Nobody who could rise through the rankings naturally off of their own abilities as fast as Hans did would ever need to cheat. The chess speaks for itself.
Or they cheated from the start.
Well, “need to” sure. But people don’t usually cheat because they need to
Loving all the chess content!
I was thrilled to see Levi on your show!

I'm so excited u keep having such interesting chess personalities on. Hikaru, Eric Rosen, or Daniel Naroditsky next?
Probably my favorite Lex Fridman podcast...and I've seen a lot of them. Great subject, and great guest. Please do more chess podcasts!
What wonderful human beings these two are. I like their values.
Hell yes, been waiting for this since your podcast with magnus. Now you've checked off kasparov, magnus, the botez sisters, and levy. I'd love to maybe see a Daniel Naroditsky next, or even an Eric Hansen. Keep it up Lex!
turned out to be one very human and interesting conversation, thanks a lot for having it.
Lex your guest choices lately have been nothing short of amazing. Finger is on the pulse well done.
Keep the chess stuff coming! Bring on Hikaru! Naroditsky! Rosen! Caruana!
"If the work was put in I would be a Grandmaster".
It's a bit of an unfair statement to make given there are actual Grandmasters out there who DID put in the work. That's the whole difference between anyone and Grandmaster, hard work.
Turned out to be a very high value episode for me as a listener.🙏
AGADMATOR:
Hi Lex,
Please invite Agadmator once.
Lex I am loving the GM podcasts... please invite Daniel Naroditsky, the best youtube chess teacher imo
I appreciate the honesty. Im your dad's age and it's good to hear men talk.
Lex Fridman + Levy Rozman = braingasm ❤
I am already having it lol

1:23:00 I find that MMORPGs can be pretty wholesome, you can get that skyrim-esque open world exploration, while being part of a community with a lot of moving parts, you're part of something bigger than yourself.
Lex is so smart, genuinely curious..... being so humble is his strength.
I never thought this would happen. My two favourite people on UA-cam together. Thanks Lex and Levy
Back again and every time I come back, I'm quickly reminded why I love Lex
Interesting listening to Levy talk about how becoming IM destroyed his motivation. (1:10:52) Sounds so eerily similar to what happened to Ding Liren after winning the world chess championship. Not that I’ve seen that stratospheric level of success but I can def relate to this. Such a strange phenomenon.
WAY TO GO, LEVY! Was eagerly waiting for this podcast. Big fan, Lex!
Levy sucks
I am so excited by this podcast! Two of my favorite creators
Awesome! My two favorite UA-camrs/podcasters in one video!
A new podcast discovered through Gotham, very nice indeed!
Legendary podcast, so happy that two of my favorite UA-cam worlds have collided
My worlds colliding. Thanks for covering chess topics and guests Lex
This might be the first Lex podcast I listen to from start to finish
