@phiberoptick it was ok, now that I look back, it was all good, but when you are in the middle of it your stress levels are off the chart in the beginning, but after a while you get with the program and find your rhythm. For me it was more of a stepping stone. Now I am going for commissioned officer. Let me know if you need any more info.
I joined at 29 dude, I know the struggle, RTC actually was too easy because I was left alone because I understood when to stfu. The only issue I got into was me and my 2nd RDC, he screamed at me for not shaving that morning( I didn’t ) and lied to him and broke attention, looked him in the eyes and told him I did, he shut me down before I got out of line to talk to my chief, he let it ride and said “he’s old, he might have shaved” 😭😂😂 got away from that orange card

Prior FMF Corpsman did 5 active and 3 reserves while in college and 3 deployments (OIFx1 and OEFx2). I would encourage you to commission and not go in as enlisted. Corpsman promotion is awful and the days of Iraq and Afghanistan are long gone. I was lucky I made HM1 right before I commissioned but I have friends who struggled to make HM2 and HM1. I commissioned at my 8.5-year mark and will say life as an officer is better. OCS is not hard but more running and attention to detail. I thought it was more difficult than boot camp. Hopefully I can share some of my wisdom with these young recruits and get yelled at by RDCs who are younger than me. I joined at my 29 in 2006 as the CS. My bootcamp was great and would never forget (Hooyah 064!!!). My favorite part of the bootcamp is definitely their food, just can’t complain at all, but I ate too much cereals 😂. I had a great time in my 7 years of the Navy; I learned a lot and would never forget. I see lots of people here are going to join after their 30s or even 36. My suggestion for you is to mentally prepared than physically prepared, especially if you are a family man/woman. Maybe you are going to miss them a lot, but just don’t forget why you are joining the military. Once you finish the bootcamp, A school and going to your first command, pretty much you are going to get everything under control. Prepare yourself, learn your job and learn your command, then you will still get plenty of time to see your family again. So don’t get mess up that makes you feel you want to get home from the bootcamp, it’s absolutely a dumb (of course your RTC won’t let you go as well). Btw, this video is about a year ago; I believe that you must be made to E4 now at least. Just keep it going shipmate!

I join at 38 and I smoked 92% of my division (well I have previous military experience) but still PFA was a joke, now I’m in USS San jacinto age it’s just a fucking number, I proved that. For those who are gonna join, this is easy shit you got this.
I was in an 800 division (spec ops). We all agreed that boot camp for us was worse than any of the follow on training. Everyone not in an 800 div seems to have a different story. Totally different experiences
Is that just NSW guys? I've heard that they might put non-SOF dudes in there if the class isn't big enough, so it could be quite the gut check. I heard this from an Airman second hand, so it might even be true
@@broncos20111 I just got done with BMT. Honestly it was still well worth it. We all were treated the same and the oldest was 34 in my flight. I went into it later but the life experience had me more prepared for some of the team dynamics that happened within.
Just turned 29 this month, ship out to RTC Great Lakes on April 7th Only have a 3 week in DEP so it’s basically just been memorizing the 11 Generals, Creed, Ranks and hitting the treadmill.
I joined in at 22 in 2005. On the bus to GL on my 22nd bday lol. It was either that day, or 4 months later for AT school at the time. Little did we all know that Katrina would screw up that whole time line lol. I was supposed to go to Pensacola after Boot. Along with 1000s of others. But that didn't happen. Lemoore, CA babyyy lol. What a fun time, graduated bootcamp in may of this year, Graduated A school in June, currently in japan aboard the USS Ronald Reagan. Life changing experience ‼️
I leave december 7th for AME. I'm excited but scared at the physical cause I beat myself up when I fall behind on expectations. But I did 4 years of college and really got out if shape. Im getting back in shape- but I feel like it isn't enough sometimes. I left school with a whole lot of debt. And a lot went to collections cause it was all loans and not all of it could be covered under the government 10 year loan. It got too much- so Navy here I come. With my HVAC licensing and Architecture degree+ Autocad licensing 💀😭 I got out and the pay is atrocious for my level of schooling. And anything HVAC most companies won't hire cause I'm a female. They won't say it- but their whole team is male.... So I'm not stupid. I know without them saying it
The first morning at boot camp in June 1960 at dark-030 we were awakend with a guy running a bottle of coke inside of a galvaniced trash can making a huge racket and shouting reavalee
Great video man, I love the positivity. Good luck in A school! I’m 25 and shipping to boot camp on September 20th as an HM. Good luck to everyone! Wish you all nothing but the best!
@@chipzstacks It’s the hardest rate in the entire Navy to advance in. You’ll be struggling to make rank while all your buddies are E-5’s two years in. If you want to advance as an HM, you gotta go to school, community volunteer, take extra responsibilities inside your department and outside your department, be involved in command organizations and maybe you advance. Other rates you simply just do your job and you advance. Majority of HM’s stay E-3’s for 5 years.
@@chipzstacks Also by some miracle you make E-5. You don’t do patient care, you just do admin work and push papers unless you’re in some very specific speciality which requires going to another training school entirely which ranges 6 months-1 year.
That’s awesome man I know EOD is definitely a tough job! Much respect and good luck to you! I believe bootcamp will be easy for you from what I heard about EOD your real challenge will start in A-School!
Damn I'm prolly going to be great grandpa. I'm joining in soon at 35. I look at it as I'm going to prison. The only thing I'm worried about is a can't swim.
I went through boot camp in 88 as a 22 year old. We had a 30 something year old guy in our company (divisions nowadays). He was a good guy, not in great shape but ok. But man did he suck at marching. He was always on the wrong foot. A picture taken during our pass in review had him half a step off! As it turns out, being able to march isn't really that important when it comes to doing your job in the Navy though lol.
"People falling asleep at attention" Dude, I'm always going to remember that time when we were in drill hall practicing grad, the day after battle stations. The recording ordered everyone to stand at attention, so I followed orders. I decided to blink and I open my eyes to see my chief saying, "How the fuc you falln' asleep standn' attention Lapeyrouse? WAKE THE **** UP!" I looked around and saw everyone in parade rest... I swear I just blinked lmao
Relax you got this! Stay focused remember it will seem like forever but just keep your eyes on the prize 2.5 months will fly by before you know it! Good luck!
Im 19, jus sign a contract. Goin in undesinated airman. Meps next weds and ship out bootcamp shortly after that. What is battle stations, i heard it's very intense! The recruiter promised me a bonus of 1000.00 after completing boot camp and an opportunity to choose which command i would like to go to.
I'm 25 years old, Growing up lost my Dad & then my Bro. I saw the military as male role models to look up to, but now the only & youngest son, my family discourages me from joining. 7 years after High School, I have been in & out of college and have a GF, which makes it harder, but I'm still thinking about joining. (Mostly USMC or Army) ....or should I JUST FINISH MY FINANCE DEGREE 1st?🤕
I joined at 30. Finished college at 29. Finish first, won’t regret it & will have bargaining leverage to stand on when the bullshit comes your way. Mustang full send 🤙🏾
Yea you definitely want to finish your degree and Go Officer that’s the way to go! But even if you enlist with a degree there are paths you can take to better yourself plus I believe you can use the gi bill to pay off your student debt.
Your body that give us a preview of a Navy cadence I've been listening to a lot of cadences in my life I am going to be 35 years old yes I wanted to join the army but they need me now both my grandfathers are US army one in world war II one in Korea my dad was an avionics technician on bored the USS Independence CV 62 my father was an avionics technician and my father Gregory Dean Stamm I said it was the avionics technician on the A-6 Intruder
You have to say that he does remember a lot that happened but when I was a kid he and his buddy made and audio recording of when they first cross the equator I just know one words you became a poliwog or a scallywag I don't know but there was an initiation he wrapped your knees with bubble wrap and you crawled on the deck between sailor's legs getting hit with fire hoses and there was another thing if you were worthy enough you had to eat chili off a fat man's stomach... As soon as you pass this initiation you're no longer a pollywog you're a shellback
I would say covid shutting everything down cause I'm from California, But I also wanted to travel, finish school, plus start a family some day and have good beneftis. @@Jakespacewolf I second that when I get in shape next year I’m joining either army or navy, mostly for the healthcare benefits and travel also I need to get out of my comfort zone
Hey, I just graduated Friday, at 32. There are plenty of things you are not aware of going in to bootcamp. Ladies, make sure you bring a month supply of fem products. Bootcamp os more mental than physical, it was very easy if ou make sure you can surpass OPFA standards.
Leaving in December and I’m nervous about swimming! I can rotary breath but can’t tread water for the life of me! But I know when I’m under pressure I will figure it ou
I would practice you still have time to learn! luckily its at the beginning so if you fail at first, you will have the rest of bootcamp to Learn and retry multiply times a week they will put you in swim lessons. Good Luck!
Learn how to swim on your back because once u jump in the water if they feel your form isn’t good there going to make u swim on ur back which was hard for me so just make sure u practice that if ur not already familiar with it as well as floating there’s a section of the text when u have to float or five minutes straight without touching the ground
Nothing makes me happier than knowing that I'm 25 and free you know what they say pick your rate pick your fate also I love to be free the navy was the furthest thing from freedom
@@Jakespacewolf sorry I sounded pessimistic I honestly think my experience in the military is not a common experience like there is a small chance anyone will have as bad of a time as I did or those people who I worked with on my ship had for the most part 95% of the people who join the navy will never have to deal with all the hardship I've had to deal with or those people that I've worked with had to deal with like my ship was under manned and we went through endless expectations and a deployment during covid lets put it this way the captain of my ship said when he was our XO that this ship isn't like any other ship he's been on and they dont do thinks the way we do them anywhere else he has ever been I also over heard him say that this command was the worst command he has ever been to and he said that we shouldn't judge the navy off of being on this ship most other ships and commands are great places to be stationed
@@Jakespacewolf i also kind of wanted people to know there is a chance that their life could really suck for like 4 or 5 or 6 years depending on the contact but again it all really depends and when it comes to the navy its a mixed bag some people love it so much they wish they could do it for 40 years if they let them others its a living nightmare and I wouldn't say that oh the navy isn't for everyone in those 2 examples like the guy who loves the navy that much could easily be in the other camp if he had to deal with all the stuff that person had to go through its just the fact that the person who loves it is in a rate that he likes

I went to great lakes at 29 in 2015. Went to Meridian Mississippi for A School. I didn't get any shit from any RDCs, because they found out real quick my age, and maybe let me be?? As 8 didn't get any shit from them, as I felt like a squared away sailor. Never got individualy get beat. I got the individual achievement award at pass and review from them. Still not sure why. But maybe because I had life experience and there's also 18-20 year Olds. I thought things were not as bad as some would say, but then again, I was looking at things differently. Got to my first command at 30. And my command it seems respected me because alot in my division E4 and below were younger than me. Was a trip knowing that I was older than most chiefs and officers
Great to hear other guys experiences at my age and yes it’s wild to be older than many higher ranks but I’m not comparing just trying to be the best me and that’s motivation! 💪
I graduated in July. As he said in the video, study that crap out of the trainee guide. Learn the chain of command, ranks and insignias, sailor's creed, 11 general orders of a sentry, anchors aweigh, CO's top six, CNO's core attributes, how to stand watch, etc. You will go over all of those. The number one thing I would say is don't fall asleep, you will get in trouble. Also if you are not E-3 when you join, try to get a leadership position with a collar device. The RDCs will hand out promotions later on in boot camp to those who show good leadership, military bearing, or integrity. One last thing, you will clean A LOT.

I will definitely remember your name. Im leaving 22nd they might ask me to leave early because up coming thanksgiving.
Love your videos because of the down to earth nature and wonderful personality. Proud of you buddy and thank you. I’m 35 and headed to OCS hopefully in the spring. Boards… takes time. Again love your content! Keep it up
Thanks so much! Means the world and best of luck on your Journey! Rock on! 🤘
I’m 29 and about to join! I’m trying to go for BU. I’m waiting on my marriage license and everything to go to MEPS🥴
This video actually makes me alittle
More relieved, I just turned 28 and I’m joining, going to meps next week.
Graduated 2 weeks ago and got stuck In THU and I’m leaving today and I’m not going to lie it was a once in a life time experience that I’ll miss my friends and RDCs
You will, but you'll get over it fast. You'll think about them later in life though
I appreciate the video. I am 31 and in the process of joining, waiting on waivers to come back from Tennessee then off to Meps after that. Thank you so much!
I turned 31 in bootcamp You got this!
I join at 38 and I smoked 92% of my division (well I have previous military experience) but still PFA was a joke, now I’m in USS San jacinto age it’s just a fucking number, I proved that.
For those who are gonna join, this is easy shit you got this.
Well said! I ship out in January.

Hey Guys Is The Swim Test Hard I dont know how to swim .
Thank you Jake for sharing your experience going to bootcamp at 30 years old
Loved ur video- wished there had been more content like this when I joined back in ‘05
I’m about to turn 30 next month and I’m enlisting to the navy soon. So this is resonating with me so much lol
@@lioncelica5170 never heard that
I joined the Navy at 36, and I'm actually approaching my third year now.
That’s awesome how do you like it so far!?
It can be very stressful at times. The age gap was a big problem at first, still can be at times. I've learned to have a lot of patients.
Congratulations! I signed into the military at 33!
Hell Yea! Best of luck!
Hi Justine! I'm 28 and planning on joining this year into the Navy. How are you liking your experience from a female perspective?
@@broncos20111 I just got done with BMT. Honestly it was still well worth it. We all were treated the same and the oldest was 34 in my flight. I went into it later but the life experience had me more prepared for some of the team dynamics that happened within.

Just turned 29 this month, ship out to RTC Great Lakes on April 7th
Only have a 3 week in DEP so it’s basically just been memorizing the 11 Generals, Creed, Ranks and hitting the treadmill.
Enjoy it man. It goes by sooo fast. Seems like an eternity at times while in. But man, I gotta do some cool stuff, see some awesome places, and meet some great people over the years. Many of whom I still speak with fairly regularly today! VFA-125, VFA-147 HooYa! I got out after 6yrs and 2 WestPacs. Needed a break, but Navy times I wish I'd stayed in. Be almost ready to retire now if I had. ✌️

Hooyah Navy! 🤘🤘
Joined at 31, I’ll be 32 when I ship out for boot camp!
With my HVAC licensing and Architecture degree+ Autocad licensing 💀😭
I got out and the pay is atrocious for my level of schooling.
I graduated Friday(2/24). I turned 29 in boot camp. Everything he said was accurate. My nickname was “Unc” and “Captain America”.
Congrats that so awesome and love the nicknames! best of luck to you shipmate!
Great video man, I love the positivity. Good luck in A school! I’m 25 and shipping to boot camp on September 20th as an HM. Good luck to everyone! Wish you all nothing but the best!
Thanks so much man and good luck to you too! Hooyah Corpsman!
Switch out of HM while you can. Thank me later-HM3
@@lightyagami8377 thanks for the info, but why is that?
Good luck Jacob, and take care :)
Thankyou so much!
I joined the wrong branch. Navy bootcamp was 75% marching and folding clothes lmao. Either way, I’m still locked in for 5 years. Hooya.

Damn I'm prolly going to be great grandpa. I'm joining in soon at 35. I look at it as I'm going to prison. The only thing I'm worried about is a can't swim.
Take swimming lessons. You'll be doing 5 minutes of floating too.
Don’t worry alot of people can’t swim well if you can do basics you’ll be fine !
I joined at 32 in 2011. I’m 43 now and a HM1.
Get that retirement 💪🏼
Wow.... no more coffee in boot camp?! Ricky rockets are what got me through service week. Galley 928 had better food than galley 1128
Awesome story! I was pretty average at marching myself and yes after A-school never marched again!
Heh! I shipped to MCRD SD at 29. Had an age waiver and was older than my DIs. They called me to the quarterdeck with “Get up here, old man!”
😂🤘that’s awesome!
Peanut butter with tuna? He said, “Hoono!!” Hahahaha!😂
I remember the chant we did in our last week in Great lakes boot camp, Skin head, skin head, don't feel blue our recruiter sc**ed us too. 1960.
I ship out next Monday, I’ll be in Pensacola as well. I chose AD.
Looking at enlisting in 27 right now only thing that worries me is my felony
No caffeine? My brain doesn’t function without it at this point. Especially on 30minutes to 3 hrs of sleep
I wa in back in feb 2001 and i fell asleep marching.
I have 36! October 26th start my Basic training!
Hell Yea Thats What I'm talking About!
😂😂😂😂that’s an epic story! Only people who been through it can understand! 🤘

Growing up lost my Dad & then my Bro. I saw the military as male role models to look up to, but now the only & youngest son, my family discourages me from joining.
7 years after High School, I have been in & out of college and have a GF, which makes it harder, but I'm still thinking about joining. (Mostly USMC or Army)
....or should I JUST FINISH MY FINANCE DEGREE 1st?🤕
I joined at 30. Finished college at 29. Finish first, won’t regret it & will have bargaining leverage to stand on when the bullshit comes your way. Mustang full send 🤙🏾
+1 to finishing your degree while you can. The Corps will be there when you’re ready.

Thankyou Lemoore!
Good Luck!
I leave in December too 😌
Learn how to swim on your back because once u jump in the water if they feel your form isn’t good there going to make u swim on ur back which was hard for me so just make sure u practice that if ur not already familiar with it as well as floating there’s a section of the text when u have to float or five minutes straight without touching the ground
Till I go on back home... Sounds like a Jodie this guy made up back in USAF basic training, back in 2012...
im 17, i enlisted but i leave for bootcamp in about 9 months, a few months before my 18th birthday so ill be pretty young when i retire
Bro get vaccinated regardless if u want it or not get it before you come because that rom sucks ass😂
I might go in a few years if stuff dont get any better for me
Nothing makes me happier than knowing that I'm 25 and free you know what they say pick your rate pick your fate also I love to be free the navy was the furthest thing from freedom
Everyone has their experiences I have had my share of ups and downs but I love it so far couldn't of been happier! best of luck to you!

Yo wassup bro just stumbled upon your video here I’m actually here in Pensacola FL I leave for my next command in 5 days
Hooyah! Good luck brother!
Going to boot December ahhh excited
@@brandonreed2248 I am going in as an E3 and already memorized my sailors creed just need to work on a lot of other things. Thank you so much for your advice!
