As a little background to the gameshow: Originally, the show was called "Schlag den Raab". Elton was not yet the host, he only appeared in one specific quiz game. Every episode, german TV star Stefan Raab would compete against normal people. Contrary to what this might make you believe, the games were far from just bean bags and geography. It could be anything, quizzes about anything, sawing a log as fast as possible, milking a cow, driving weird vehicles... The price for beating Stefan Raab was massive: 500,000€. That's not all: when the competitor lost, the jackpot would rise. The highest jackpot somebody has won was 3,5 million. After a few years, Stefan Raab retired from being a TV star, only working behind the scenes from then on. That's when the show became "Schlag den Star". Instead of the same star every show, each show had a different celebrity, and the jackpot would be drastically decreased. So did the popularity of the show. Eventually, the normal person was scrapped and two celebritys started competing.
So this show was adapted for Swedish TV as well. Initially called "Vem kan slå Filip och Fredrik", two contestants team up against Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson, who are basically two tv personalities who are super knowledgeable, and somewhat fit. Now they've been replaced by alpine skiing and hockey legends Anja Pärson and Peter "Foppa" Forsberg. A bit harder to go up against former world champion athletes in the physical challenges haha.
The game worked so well with Raab as he is a god tier gamer. He simply didn't give up and fought every game like his life depended on it. I think most viewers had a love /hate relationship with him in this show. The audience normally sided with the guest every time. There was one episode with Hans Martin though. He was a random guest, who was so unsympathetic, that the audience cheered for Raab and actually even booed Hans Martin a couple of times. This episode was so epic, I think I have seen it like 3 or 4 times. Tv gold. Edit: The show also lived from the show hosts: Optenhövel (?) and Buschi. They just didn't take any BS from Raab. I really enjoyed that show, but watched without Ad breakes afterwards. Incredible commitment of the normal audience to watch this time sink live on TV.
I would watch the shit out of an american version of this. Imagine a weekly show where contestants have to face-off against Will Arnett to see who can dunk a coconut into a nest floating in the middle of a pool the fastest.

A Bit of context what this Game-Show is. There is this german celebrity called Stephan Raab. He hosted a Late night comedy-show called TV-Total which was so damn popular that the channel gave him more and more freedom to host other events and aired repeats of his late night show every night. He started hosting the TV-Total Wok-WM, where german celebrities would slide down an icy track in a wok, the Stock-car crash-challenge, where celebreties would drive in a circle in a car and the goal would be to destroy the others cars until they couldn't drive anymore, and so on. The most popular Special he did was "Schlag den Raab" where some guy would challenge Raab to 15 different exercises and could win at least 500,000€. If Raab won the amount on the line at the next "Schlag den Raab" would increase by 500,000€ and so on. Once he announced his retirement, the channel started to promote "Schlag den Star" which had the same formula as "Schlag den Raab" but was lower budget (only 50,000€) and less popular.
And the game adaptation is as representative of the show as the family feud or the who wants to be a millionaire games of the actual shows. (at least that's what I heard, I don't watch TV)

Although I saw this masterpiece live, I will pog in the YT-Comments as well to please the algorithm.
Ich bin gerade so pogged aus meiner gourd heraus, it's unbelievable. This content is injecting liquid joy and happiness straight into my cerebral cortex. Thanks for the company NL.
Ive watched like 1000 Isaac Videos but as a German I have to say DAS VIDEO WAS PERFEKT. Much love
100 minutes of maximum poggy content, have one for the algorithm!
I just finished my "Monday" back from vacation, hit the ganja, started watching this and it's the funniest thing I've ever seen. What a great return to form circa 2021.
German here.. been watching NL for 6 years... This was the most I ever laughed at a UA-cam video... Thanks for that incredible amount of pog content.
this is insanely good stuff, NL. only you could play a game in a language you don't speak or read and still do this well
You´ve got to watch the original Series "Schlag den Raab" espacially the episode with the candidate Hans-Martin^^
The whole appeal of this show is the banter for me, which does not well translate to a game.
Never had so much fun seeing this game. As a german I can say it Was so much better than Wachting it on Pro 7 at 20:15 (live Television). Thank you for playing.
0:21 I'm sorry, you'll do what?
Nl's ability to play triva in a different language is akin to Homer Simpson being able to speak in any language as long as it's related to food.

Honestly one of the hardest intellectual flexes I’ve ever seen
This was far more entertaining than I thought it would be.
Wow, egg is actually really good at figuring out german from context and similarities to languages he knows.
Most native english speakers don't even make any effort, but this is pretty good.
The game is still extremely accursed, tho.
3 minutes in, as a German, im laughing off my buttocks and POGGING out of my gourd
It seems every one of your german viewers has to write a comment here. That's also the only reason I'm typing right now. Los geht's nördlicher Löwe!
