    Not making waterproof wheels is simply not acceptable anymore. It's so easy, and cheap to do, and so many riders will ride in the rain. I refuse to buy any wheel that doesn't have waterproofing. This review made me think of the quote from the movie Apollo 13. "What do we have on the spacecraft that is good?"

    I’m new to EUC, and I’ve had an S 22 as my first wheel for about a year now. New Jersey United States. About 1500 miles, no breakdowns, just Clark pad, bio pads. Biggest issue I have is the range anxiety I get. About 30 miles of a quick ride, and I’m scared. Other than that , I’m very happy.

      Exact same story here. It was also my first wheel. I didn't think I would need more battery at the time. Now I'm thinking of an upgrade.

    Worth mentioning to any owners. The actual water ingress point you should worry about, is where the LED wires go into the frame just under the front of the motherboard area. Silicone these holes after you take the wheel apart. Get one tube of silicone and it will last you ages and you need some anyway for the motor phase cables.

    • @InsanitiesBrother
      @InsanitiesBrother 6 місяців тому

      @@CycleCritic I use clear set silicone and you can get it from Amy hardware store.
      If you look at the front of the wheel. On either side of the inner area there are wires on either side that go into the battery boxes on the side.
      Where they go in there is a weak rubber seal that doesn't really do it's job. Whilst the wheel is dry and clean in those areas just paste some silicone over the hole and smush it in, then put some extra over and let it set.
      When you take the wheel apart you will need to reapply it.

      @@InsanitiesBrother That's awesome tip thank you, what about the motherboard itself, is that area waterproof enough?

    Amazing effort to review the wheels man. Big thumbs up :). I know a guy with good old S22 and he has 9000km with no issues. He just bought new sliders with rollers. He is like 70 years and rides appropriately :).

  • @RonnieRides

    Re batteries, they have good rubber seals, water don't get in there, water resistance around charge ports and button is super easy to fix, it's my winter and rain wheel of choice, great water resistance.
    Also you dont need new controller if you want the pro motor, just swapping motor is enough.
    I think your bolts broke because you are riding it pretty extremely with those high jumps to be fair.

That's what got me watching this video even though all the technical jargon sounds like blah blah and sends my mind into a tangle - yet your unique perspectives and detailed explanations -and video brake downs showing us inside the wheel & continuously demanding higher quality wheels from the manufacturers help keep all of us riders even chill riders like me Safer- Thank You! Ride On!

    Its not as simple as just using a higher voltage MOSFET, it might work but it is questionable. One way to protect MOSFETs is by inserting an ESD protection diode between the gate and source terminals generally.

    Though, i am continuously abusing it, so probably im not the best measure for reviewing. Nevertheless , i love how this wheel sends. 😁

    Definitely agree with you. I've passed 5300km on my S22 (Not Pro) now, a lot of it off road. I'm not a BIG jumper, (just little ones for me) but the tracks are very steep an rocky :)
    To extend the side pad area I used some 2mm carbon sheet. Less than half the price and stiffer.
    Keep up the good work Adam 👍

    Interesting review! I find it strange that only one wheel has decent lighting for road use (the V11) and instead we have to put up with lights that are simply unsafe on the road. Why haven't all wheel pedals standardised to something that's adjustable and non slip in the wet. Will you be doing a review of the S19 and S16? Personally I'd be more interested in a commuting perspective (battery safety, range, reliability, robustness, waterproofing, features etc).

  • @okvp
    @okvp 7 місяців тому +1

    Controller case lid waterproofing is certainly not a good, yes there is a seal but screws are inside of a sealed compartment. BAD thing is that the lid screw heads are in cavities without any kind of seal and screws go through the motherboard. When it is raining water will be pushed under the seat to the cavities and water might seep from there directly on the motherboard. Quick fix is to put tape on the cavities and add silicon to plug two mid screw holes on the controller lid which are holding the red plastic piece on the top.
    The lid is also bit flimsy and there are too few screws for sealing, so I filled the seal groove with silicone grease. All the other holes and gaps under the controller box I siliconed and I added tape and silicone grease under the power knob. Also light wires pass through should be siliconed.
    Pedals (IMO) are actually pretty good, they are lightweight and knobs/studs can be sharpened with angle grinder or dremel.

    An impact screw driver will remove stuck bolts well. the hammer impacts forces the bit to stay inside the head and also helps to loosen the threads

    • @vladimirwaas3988
      @vladimirwaas3988 5 місяців тому

      Despite the use of an impact screwdriver, I cannot recommend loosening without heating to 100°C. You will destroy your head - the inner hexagon. The screws are made of mud.

      I’m glad they didn’t! You’re a lightweight though! I would keep an eye on them as they tend to get weaker over time… the shaking is either due to rollers or loose bolts on the motherboard! There has to be something that makes it rattle and shiver! Also glad to see you in the comment section again!

    Thank you WR for this great review. I'm just wondering how many points has KS managed to make better on next versions. What you think about idea of doing a list of flaw points in a description so you could eventually get back to the subject after a year or so and add comments to the flaw list. That would be awesome althought I know it's effort demanding ;) Of course unless you intend to make another review for a newer version ;)

    My trolley handle broke. Some sort of die-cast. I fixed it with 10mm panhead self drilling Philips head screws.
    I am surprised that the bolts are not good quality steel, seeing that industrial bolts are cheap.
    My front bumper has taken a thrashing and will need to be replaced. It is held together with cable ties. (I learned to ride on my machine)
    Did I see cruise control in the software?
    I am having trouble deciphering the meaning of the numbers in the app. Perhaps I am stupid, but I think it needs more explanation.

    Had a friend who traded a onewheel for an s22 on marketplace. We saw it and it was working well, but it was snowing when we did the trade so there wasn't much time to see how it was. After a while it had a BMS issue that kept it tilting back everytime you would turn it on even after being on the charger, but a firmware update fixed it luckily. Sadly we just had to wait for one to be available. Although the s22 was in my friend's possession (now in mine), I rode it mostly over him while he learned to ride comfortably on my 18xl. After ~500 miles on the s22 by myself, an issue it developed is what I can describe best as motor tremors? It can begin to shake aggressively when braking, It is an issue that is showing to be pretty consistent right now. I would like to replace the motor for a pro motor, but given all the other issues it could end up having, I might just get rid of it for cheap and let someone else work on it. I don't mind maintenance, but my 18xl with 4500 miles (~7200km) doesn't give me any issues at all. I have taken it apart to check how things are, and after decent trail riding, hitting bonks daily, and overall some pretty good torment for the 18xl, the only maintenance I will need to do soon is slap a new tire on it since mine is almost bald. Would much rather have something I trust like the 18xl than something that I will fear riding.

    • @BANGbucketHEAD
      @BANGbucketHEAD 7 місяців тому

      Those motor tremors might just be your control board is not screwed down tight enough. Because if that control board can vibrate just the slightest it will cause the motor to vibrate when you're like braking. I had that problem on my 16x and my friend had the same problem with his s22 and that's how we fixed it

    Suspension trunions should always be ballraced like they are on mountain bikes. Even oil lite/sintered bronze plain bearings whilst not ideal are better than nothing. Nothing is an abomination and a design mistake. These things are treated like cheap kids bikes by some of these manufacturers.
    I wish an EUC company would fly me out to China so I could give their designers some pointers.
    I’d even go as far as using stainless bearings that won’t rust and then pit over time.

    I'm just under 8k km. This is the murder of this hobbie. This wheel is enough a reason to avoid this company entirely. Non-stop problems, money sink. Non-stop repairs.
    I'm all for innovation, and companies trying new things, I mean kingsong did bring us all suspension to EUCs and was much needed. Sure everyone been trying different methods to find the best one.... but to continue this failed rail trash design on further models should tell users all they need to know.
    The are currently on their 3rd motor manufacturer. I am 3 motors in and willing to bet the bearing are probably still 1500km max range. Do not ride in rain, I did once very light rain for only 5 minutes and the bearings ceased that night.
    The board I always scared was going to blow on me as it did on many others, somehow mine has survived.
    The materials they use is inexcusable at the price point. Those plastic dipped chrome plated ikea quality fixtures on the suspension is a joke.
    You must spend money on farings, pads, cnc rollers, extra 420 wheels for replacements every 600km.
    This is such a POS I could go on but it's to infuriating. Absolutely trash!

    After reading comments, the amount of money you pay to buy
    These wheels, 6hose probs should
    Not exist. It's just shoddy workmanship. Car or bike
    Manufacturers who don't pay attention to detail will soon be out of business. So to euc companies.
    Their is always going to be maintainance but no waterproofing,
    Cheep bolts and screws, questionable electronics.
    Come on kingsong, you have a loyal
    Customer base don't ruin it
    With that kind of workmanship.
    Having a rant here and I'm not
    Even a rider.😆😎

    I agree, the s22 was very disappointing hot trash... I have a few friends with them and I ride with them on my sherm S. 3 break downs for them, 2 required and Uber home. 3.5k on my sherm S... couldn't be happier. Very very glad n I didn't swallow then kingsong "Pheonix" hype that I originally wanted. RIP kinsong. Even after you spend a few 100 upgrading , you still are stuck with a piece of SHYT...

      You're comparing it with the most expensive premium EUC in the world. Of course the Sherman S is better, but we can't all afford one.

    Love and hate the wheel just from thinking of the problems it might have. This video just remembered me of the ptsd tho. Also jump to flat and breaking bolts isn't really a complaint, off road vehicles also break bolts if they land flat

    S22 Pro Revision 2 would be nice wheel if the manufactured fixed alot of the fixable issues.
    Sure is a project wheel and does require alot of after sales work to make it better to what it should have been from the factory.
