In the EUC community, people like Adam use the phrase "over engineered" to refer to thoughtful design and high quality materials. It's sad that it gets referred to as though it's a negative thing, when we have things like the rear pins on the Extreme shock bending if the wheel bottoms out, it's not that the V13 is over engineered, it's that most other wheels are under engineered.

    • @updlate4756
      @updlate4756 9 місяців тому +5

Multiple riders have broken the shocks on the V13 as well. When he says overengineered, I think he's referring to the raptor controller going above and beyond versus the underpowered motor's actual capabilities; which means it's never really challenged. The pedal folding mechanism that doesn't work all that well. The trolley handle is a nice design, but still not enough to handle the weight of the wheel. There's the hoops you have to jump through to adjust the suspension. The rim that's built like a tank, which is nice, but adds a lot of weight, and this isn't exactly an off-road wheel. Overall, it's a well built wheel with a few big obvious misses, but its capabilities don't live up to all the extra and the high price tag.
I will give it to Inmotion with how much fire safety they built into this. The cell separators and waterproofing is definitely a great thing,. The shielding around the batteries, and how much damage this wheel can take and keep running. The smart BMS and dynamic cell balancing is awesome. This stuff is going to become more and more mandatory as building owners crack down on everything PEV due to the inherent catastrophic fire risk.
I think this wheel was meant as a test bed for their hardware and software. The wheel was expensive to keep sales low and essentially treat the customers as the testers to work out any bugs. (Reminds me of a company I shall not name, but starts with a T and is run by an a-hole)

Agree, the V13 is just meeting the bare minimum in vehicle design on just a few aspects. It'll take a decade or two before the word 'over engineered' comes in the picture regarding euc's...

    • @FinnBjerke
      @FinnBjerke 9 місяців тому +1

Overengineering is a well defined concept. Your attempt to redefine the concept is not overly clever, this review is thoughtfull, your comment is not. V13 is overpriced and range is a bloody laff. I have 6500 km on that wheel its rock solid, but weighs over 50 kiloes which explains the range problem. My v13 have been very stable for seated and very fast riding. - but the price weight and range is bloody ridiculous. The frontlight is OK but blinds ppl, backlight is terrible.
In the EUC world we have
      1) Overengineering (Inmotion style)
      2) Kindergarten engineering (Begode/Kingsong style)
      3) Weed-enginnering (Old style MSX..)
      4) Badmaterials-engineering (Sherman family)
Look out for irony..... Inmotion will upgrade v13 based on the dialogue with EUC community, (V11 is already upgraded) My conclusion: Inmotion is best engineering and they actually have service to customers. V13 is the fastest wheel but they build in Sovjet style safety features, while forgetting simple things like high quality back lights. Still No wheel on the marked is as stable as V13 - I just wonder how long the bearings will live and how difficult upgrading an overengineered wheel is?

    • @FinnBjerke
      @FinnBjerke 9 місяців тому +1

One definition of overengineering is "the design of a system or component to exceed the requirements of the design specification." This definition suggests that overengineering is a quantifiable concept, as it can be measured by comparing the actual performance of a system or component to its required performance. (From Bard AI) Using bad screws is bad engineering and very very Chinese, A psychologist (such as myself) would say overengineering is the product of an overly nervous engineer. ... Why nervous about v13? Becaouse its the fastest wheel on the marked.

I am a current owner of v11 with 10k and a recently owner with just 700km in my v13, i use both daily. I stepped up to it because i was in need of more head room and speed. It doesnt mean i am always at 80+km/h riding speeds but the peace of mind I get with this wheel knowing i am not stressing safety and wireing components totally outweighs any flaws it may have and other wheels I have owned. When on the streets I feel and see V13 like a real vehicle not a toy like many others. I love components are not being stressed at all, i dont have to be worried about how hard i am pushing it or checking how fast i am going, basically never beeps and always responds. Before v13 i have had for a while kingsong, and i have tried begode and many models before going for v13, and while away from inmotion i was missing it's software safety lots. From my point of view when euc is your main commuting vehicle and you ride at least 50km a day while charging it and storaging it every night under your roof your wheel long term safety and reliability is priority and i dont get that feeling with any other wheel but inmotion. i know its not perfect but for now i dont see any other euc vehicle companies putting so much effort into safety and development as inmotion has, and thats not negotiable for me. When it comes to its weight, it doesnt bother me at all, its in fact still portable, i take it to the subway, bank and all day to day errands with ease. Also its 54kg are actually helpfull, at 50 plus km/h you need that weight in order to have better control of it, under wind gusts you feel stable and its better to counterweight them than with a light wheel. When it comes to range, yes, id like to have a bit more, but it still gets the job done, i manage to get 70 to 80km range daily at fast pase riding which its just about right for city commuting, at 20% battery you can easily hit 65+ km/h speeds. Regarding nimbleness of course its not as agile as a light wheel but i have no complains to it, stable at low speeds, easy to carve and go into traffic, i live in a hectic city and it performs great. We are in front of a real vehicle

Great review. I hated the V13... It's so easy to overlean and the suspension is garbage compared to all modern suspension wheels from every manufacturer. They claimed this wheel was all about safety and no cutouts, yet they put a C30 motor in it... that makes it super easy to overlearn and "cut out". Begode still has some work to do for safety (I think the only thing missing from the Extreme is redundant hall sensors), but putting a C40 motor in all of their latest 136v wheels is a huge benefit for safety, something Inmotion can't claim about the V13. The V14 looks like Inmotiion learned from their mistakes, I hope it turns out great!
    54:58 I'm still here 😅

    • @Warxcell

safety is also about controller design. My Begode Nikola+ burn controller at 4.5k km. I'm in doubt if I should get another begode wheel. InMotion raptor controller seems promising.

    • @TheThunderwars
      @TheThunderwars 2 місяці тому

I'm still not sure about the use of redundant hall sensor to be honest. I think leaperkim uses just backward tension (not sure how to say it in English but it's the use of the tension generated by the speed of the rotor that opposes the tension applied to the motor), at least that'd be one way to do it without hall censor and precise enough just to come to a stop. I don't see (but maybe I've been missing something obvious) so many hall sensor failures...

Im totally happy with my V13. At 63 years old safety is everything. The peace of mind I get with this wheel far outweighs any other wheel I've owned and it has allowed me to reach much higher speeds comfortably as a result. As far as weight and maneuverability, you get used to it...

Age is in the mind until you screw up your ankles and then they “click” all the time and you are lucky if that’s about all you which you have to worry. My case is that people or cars (cats are ok I just run them over and they are fine) force me to plan my speed and path and the V13 might need a much larger buffer etc. Do you make emergency turns for obstacles and cars etc? Seems less manageable?

54:57 Thanks for the review! Just hit 1700 Kilometers on my first wheel, V12HT, and am looking at upgrading to something with suspension, more range, and a slight increase in speed.
I looked at the V13 very briefly, but like you said it doesn't have the right weight to power to range ratio for me to justify.
I'll probably bably get the Sherman S since it looks like a good mix of range, speed, and reliability.

What a great job you did with this video! That's so awesome! I can think of one more reason why this wheel was made. Inmotion ran the maximum amount of manufacturing processes on it. Yes, it was super expensive, super over-engineered, and it's unlikely to pay off, but all future wheels will be much easier to make when you have this "flagship" that never breaks and is super reliable. You can just say "this has the same electrics and safety solutions as the V13" and everyone will nod with understanding :)

  • @kingdongo4388

The V13 wheel addresses a distinct subset within a specialized market, and it undeniably holds significant implications for Inmotion's future, firmly establishing their commitment to top-tier safety standards.
While it may fall slightly short in terms of torque and range when compared to counterparts like the Begode Master Pro in a similar price range, the 'Raptor Controller' shows promise.
I anticipate that Inmotion will make every effort to minimize weight, maximizing battery capacity.
I'm eager for the forthcoming review of the V14; it will be intriguing to witness the innovations they bring to the table! 😊

In a V13 rider, and apart from the initial recalls, I describe this wheel as the Range Rover of wheels:
    - a street cruiser
    - best sit ride wheel in the game
    - comfortable high end performance
    - I’m 6’2, 210 so it suits my size
That said, at the price point I feel the EX30 might have been more ideal

I was still there until the end ;-) ! Honestly, although I am a young rider (200km ridden on a KS-14D), I still don’t see the day I would be interested into this kind of wheel. It goes against the #1 raison d’être for EUC : practicality, lightness and range. At least, it’s not wide (like a monstruous S22 that I have tried and hated) but for the rest, how can you bring it to your place (one stair is already too much) or in your car (you need a ramp, I mean come on). I do agree with you about the reasonable speed we should go with EUC : 50-60 km/h. Over this speed, buy a scooter or a motorcycle with a registered driving license and insurance. Great review Adam 👍🏼 !!!

My recent ride on the V13 for comparison: 65 miles (105km) with 16% battery remaining. Average speed 22MPH (35KMH) with short bursts to 40MPH (64KMH) when I needed to get on the road at a few points. Outdoor temps between 73F and 83F degrees. Battery dropped fast over last 17 miles (27 km) from 37% to 16%.
If I hold 50MPH for any sustained length of time then I see much less range. But when out for a mostly relaxed Sunday morning excursion averaging 22MPH then I feel confident knowing I have 70 or so miles to play with.

I bought V11 as my first wheel about 5 weeks ago. In first 4 days I was doing nothing but learning to ride and got more or less comfy on wheel. Then the hall sensor failed after and I brought the wheel back. Suddenly I saw that V13. I tried it and somehow it felt solid and nice. So the dealer has agreed to refund V11 and I bought V13 with some discount. I am 62yo, height is 182cm and weight is 90kg and very athletic. Maybe because of this I did not really feel big problems manhandling this baby. Yes it is top heavy but I got used to it. I ride 50-70km a day and do not feel any problems handling it, maybe because I am still very new to EUC and do not try anything requiring advanced experience. My total mileage is around 2000km and my average consumption is 20Wh/km. Since total battery capacity is 3000Wh it gives me a theoretic range of about 150km. In reality it will be less of course but I should be able to get about 120km with my riding style. The wheel feels very stable and comfortable. Not a single mech / electrical problem either (cross my fingers). So consider me a happy owner. As for speed - I am not a maniac and that 90km/h says that I have lot of safety limit when I ride. So yes I appreciate this kind of overengineering. I might try to get something with more range in the future as I want longer travels but we'll see.

Hey Adam, I have been watching your videos for years at this point. You were the straw that broke the camels back in regards to my obsession with EUCs getting started.
I have been riding for going on 2 years, and have worked my way from a RS19HT (went with HT because how hard you always push torque) quickly outgrew the wheel and range, I live in greater Seattle area, and My EUC is my main form of transportation for work. with the RS i would take the train (27.7) miles one way to work was too much for me on the RS. I got a S22 and started using it as my daily commuter. Couldn't quite manage there and back with 2200w battery pack (I struggle maintaining a reasonable speed). So I bought a fast charger Love the wheel and what its taught me about EUCs. I originally came from scooters, which is how i found your videos. this comment has exponentially increased in length from my original thought, Cant stop now though.
I immediately started designing my own 3d printed parts for my RS, power pads mostly. I am now riding an SS and Its incredible the quality jump from the RS19 --> S22, I was blown away at the S22 --> SS quality jump though. I started this comment with the intention of asking you if you would be interested in testing out some pads I designed and currently use over the Patton pads Ewheels provided with my SS. I also have another project I have been working on that I think would be extremely beneficial for your specific use case as a wheel reviewer/tester.
Ill include the link to my page where anyone who read through this novel can buy the STL for the pads (They arent even 4 dollars). I feel like I have gotten to the point where I actively need to become a part of the community, rather than continue to Lurk as i have been doing for years.
cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/toe-shield-jump-torque-pads (these are my current everyday pads, my Sherman-s/S22 are in the pictures. I love using these for jumping, In which case I remove the upper pad from my SS to free up that space for my legs)
cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/whitpads-power-padsv1 (these were my first Designed pads that I used for 90% of my time with my RS, I thought I could kinda change the mold a little with these ones they ended up being mediocre at best)
If you would be willing to give them a try, I would print you a set, and ship them to you.
    thanks

After 4000km I removed side covers and rear cover (mudguard was badly installed :D) and I tightened the screwes and that is it. No more maintenance. V12HT is so maintenance free wheel. V13 is really not for me, but I know 3 riders of V13 in Czech Republic. One of them sold the the wheel because it was too heave for him, but the other 2 really like it and push it to the 90km/h :D. 54.47 watching til the end was the "WRONG WAY" haha.
Agree on all points about this review. Hopefully the safety will be adopted by all the manufacturers.
I would like a new wheel, but so far there isn't anything tempting me to replace my RSht. It's been a great wheel (no rain riding) and as much as I like the idea of suspension I don't want the extra stuff making noise and needing extra attention.
Looking forward to more begode extream content as that seems to tick my off road boxes. I don't ride a lot of on road these days so I'm after as much torque as possible, and a reliable suspension system that resists bottoming out from the bigger hits.
The RS does a good job on the torque but without suspension rough tree root/rocky trail section have to be taken slow. If suspension didn't happen it would still be one of the best for off road but it is there, and I want it.
Basically I want an S22 and an RS to make a baby 😂

Higher center of mass does not make it harder to keep upright. In fact higher center of mass makes it slightly easier to keep upright.
Gotta look into moment of inertia instead to understand it falling over. Fortnine has a good video on this.
Plus you need to control or account for all other variables since there isnt a control group version with only a lower center of mass.

Thank you for doing braking distance. Yes braking distance is not linear ;) not for any vehicle. But 5 meters from 30kmh is within standard for electric cycles with "3 wheels or less".

There is grub screws for the trolley handle. I noticed mine were missing, I am not sure if they were there and fell out or if never was there from the batch 2 order. I requested if there should be screws and they sent me a pair with next day delivery. Purchased through eWheels.
On the entire review, I appreciate the honesty of your experience with the wheel, Thanks! Side note, I love my v13 and don't regret the purchase at all. I haven't rode a wheel like this where I feel pretty much 99.99% safe that I am not going to have a high speed cut out or death wobble. The suspension has been holding out well for me as well. I am about 220lbs and I take mine through trails and jumps with no blown suspension rods or leaking yet. My only gripe on this wheel is the way the suspension guides with the 6 per side little plastic rectangle pieces, I have been calling them suspension sliders. I broke one and it wasn't to difficult to replace but did required opening up the battery compartment which I personally feel comfortable doing. The concern I had was they screw on with only 1 tiny screw and they are small plastic pieces that hold the entire suspension in place. When you compare to sliders on other wheels, like the s22, it looks sort of felt like an afterthought. Heavy wheel to be having such small guides for the suspension to travel against. Granted, I saw a video from forward n bak with Bob (CEO at the time of Inmotion) mentioning that they are designing a kit to convert existing v13s to Hydraulic Suspension which I am very hopeful for.

I suspect a major revision of the V13 once the V14 have demonstrated its efficacy. I doubt reworking the existing air strut design will be practical but we'll have to wait and see. the V13 with a FastAce suspension would be plush... and the rear linkage like the V14 and its a keeper.

I'm definitely in that small group of riders. The smaller range gets me anywhere I want to go in my city, and I LOVE the speed - it makes it so I don't have to ride in the bike lane and can ride the street without pissing off drivers. This feels safer to me since I'm not coming at high speed in the bike lane while drivers try to turn in front of me without signalling.

Seeing the remote controlled lock reminds me about one missing feature: A lock, as in a physical block, integrated within the kickstand or trolley handle to chain it somewhere. Or just an integrated mount to fit one of those foldable locks.
Plus, if someone tries to turn it on without code/key or take the wheel, let the user be able to record a message shouting from the wheel (at least speakers are not useless that way).

IP67-rated enclosures are able to withstand waterhose and jet sprays and can sustain momentary water immersion in depths of 150mm to 1000mm up to 30 minutes maximum. IP67-rated enclosures are guaranteed to function in indoor, outdoor, w and demanding industrial and commercial settings.
Aka more than 1m water depth or more than 30 minutes, batteries still not under warranty.
but yeah, going the right way. When we reach IP 68 im confident.

The only thing that stopped me initially was the range! Especially because I would have removed the suspension myself. Now that I looked into it more, and being 115kg with gear and backpack, I need a very strongly braking wheel with range. Ans as you said in the video: 50-60kph is more than enough speed and at the limit of safety for these systems simply due to braking distance. (Race track is different). Lets see what the Adventure (or maybe v14) brings

Thanks Adam…I enjoyed as always. I have to agree with you on the V13. IMO it’s a wheel with little appeal to most riders. For myself, I’m just not interested in a 50kg wheel, and I have absolutely no interest in going over 55kph. An EUC is not a suitable vehicle to go fast on..I have a Ducati for when I want to go quicker. And At 50kg, it really isn’t micro mobility anymore…actually, at that size and weight, it must be a bit of a pain to live with. 👍

Adam, stuck it out to 55:10 thanks, for the review. I had a deposit on this wheel, like I did on the S22. I didn't buy either one. I am so done with hype EUC releases. I watch them get released, riders like yourself provide comprehensive reviewsbeyond what I would put an EUC through, & thats greatly appreciated. However the most annoying thing is these EUC manufacturers not listening to their customers, or reviewers like yourself, & making EUC's that fully meet our requirements, which makes me hold off on any new EUC from now on, I will stick with my V11 love hate relationship as long as I can, & just take short trips, & use my car for long trips, which I would like to replace.
The first thing that puts me off, not only with the V13 but with other wheels is no street tire option out the box. Spending $4000USD on an EUC that my use case is commuting & I'm replacing a car, so yeah that became a let down when it came with an offeoad tire, & it is a stupid choice by inmotion not to offer an option, as they would probably realize that street tire is more popular, & would compel maybe more riders, but for those that are already pissed they have to take apart a brand new $4000 EUC, that's a pass. The trolley handle design is terrible, that design needed to stop with the v12. They could have integrated a trolley handle that doubles as a seat like the Sherman S. That seat design, & trolley handle is stupid, & they can redeem themselves & update that quick so the wheel doesnt fall into complete obsolescence. The other things I agree with is the headlight needs to tilt, I mean even on the V11Y that's coming out. no tilting light. The charge ports need updating, & the battery capacity. If it had a 4000Wh pack Ithink that would help with range alot. Yeah I was really disappointed with this wheel release, & now I'm looking @ the master pro, but I really hate begode wheels, I think they're all really low quality trash, & resonably unsafe despite their performance. I also never see 1000+km reviews of begode wheels, only Veteran.
Again, I hope inmotion & other EUC makers start listening to riders ipdate their exsisting wheels or they will end up like begode saturating the EUC market with wheels every month that dont check all the boxes, & obsolete the following month. Thanks again!

I find your opinion quite objective considering restrictions that comes with that wheel by provider. Overpriced and ridiculous toy with some "safety" features.

Watched the whole thing, very interesting, thanks Adam!!
Question for the readers here about what I should upgrade to. I'm a 183cm (6ft), 110Kg + gear rider. I only ride on roads, or around town. My current & only wheel is a KS18XL. I want a safe, reliable wheel that can go about 70Km/h & am hoping for more range. I live in a place where not every make & model is available, so the available options are: V12, V13, V14 (preorder), Sherman Max & S22 Pro (usually not in stock). If I buy Inmotion, the shop is near me, which helps if there's an issue. If I get the Sherman Max or S22, I would need to have any issues fixed by a third party (good scooter shop nearby though). So any thoughts?

What's the point of going over 50 km/h (31 mph)? In the US, residential streets are 40 kmh (25 mph), and most of the conduit roads to get anywhere have speed limits of 56 - 72 kmh (35-45 mph). We also don't have a whole lot of protected bike lanes. Riding above 30+ kmh (18 mph) on sidewalks isn't smart given that many of our main conduit roads are covered in driveways and cross streets that cars often drive right through the pedestrian walkway to get a better view of the traffic they're about to turn into. There are far fewer bicycles, PEVs, and even walkers in many lower population regions in the US, so drivers simply don't expect anyone to ever be using the sidewalks. It's just better and safer to be in the street sharing the lanes with cars, and IMO it's safer if they're not all trying to pass you at high speeds. That said, there is inherent risk with EUCs that they could, at any time, cut out. At higher speeds, the risk of injury is high. Which is why most of us cover ourselves from head to toe in protective gear.
There's really no reason at all to put a 20"+ tire on an EUC if you think the max speed should be 50 kmh, given that 16" wheels are completely stable up to that speed. Whether non-licensed children should be allowed to ride them at 40 kmh... much less 50 kmh.... is another story, but that has more to do with the law, law enforcement, and parents properly controlling the toys they give their kids.

What's your top recommendation for a first wheel under $2000 (USD)? Some friends and I are looking into our first wheel. The V11HT looks great on paper all around, but the main negative seems like no suspension. I'd assume no suspension makes off-roading and stairs a no go.

Lower pedals and no suspention makes rapid caving faster and therefor more fun. But in reality carving is not the standard use case. The fact it is being used as a measurement for control is not accurate.
In reality higher footplates do not really changing your turning speed or difficulty if you control for other variables.
    Carving tests trick you.
