Cliff Richard is a music phenomenon in the UK, with hits stretching from the late 1950s through to the 2000s. He's only occasionally hit the charts in the US but he's got a huge back catalogue.
Cliff Richard is considered to be a living legend in the UK and the rest of the world. When this song came out in 1976 he had already been in the music industry for 18 years starting with his first song “Move It” in 1958 which is credited as the first British rock n roll song. Move It was written by Ian Samwell who was a member of his band at the time. Devil Woman was written by another band member Terry Britten and Christine Author Holmes. A devote Christian many people question why Cliff Richard would record a song like Devil Woman. He explained in his opinion it was a warning against the occult. Devil Woman became his first American top 10 song. A fun fact you probably do not know about Cliff Richard. Although he is still almost unknown here in the USA, in the Uk he has had a number 1 song in the 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s, the 1980s, the 1990s, and the 2010s. I can’t remember if he had another number 1 song in the 2020s or not. No other artist in history has achieved this accomplishment. True there are artists who continue to have record sales long after they have died, but that’s not the same thing. Although I’m an American born after Beatlemania I have been a Cliff Richard fan for over 40 years. He has had many fans who have followed his career since the beginning in 1958.

Art Bell had a radio show people would call in and he had callers tell their personal ghost stories. A guy from Miami called and said when he was young sometime around 77 or 78, he was working as a night guard. He came home to his roommates, who liked to tinker with occult stuff. They were in the basement doing some sort of ritual with a protection circle, and he sarcastically yelled, "If there is a devil, give us a sign". As soon as he said that, an old broken transistor radio in a locked case that no one could get into (long story involving super glue and a broken key) started playing the chorus to this song when it hadn't worked in years.

A jealous paranoid artist called Elvis Prickly ensured Cliff did not make it in the USA after Cliff was voted the world's favourite male recording artist in 1964, by which time Elvis was practically a fully fledged Gospel singer.
WATCH OUT CLIFF!!!!!
Cliff has been around since the beginning of time. He once used to team up with The Shadows in the '60-'70s.
This was my favorite song back in the day!
This is mine and my husband’s song! It has been for about 35 years now. It’s the only song that summed up our love for each other! Apparently it works because we’re still together! Thank you Cliff Richard for writing the perfect love song for an eclectic set of folks! Lol!
Didn't write the song.
It was written by Terry Britten and Christine Holmes
Cliff Richard is living Legend 🎉❤
Lite-hard hitter, great radio tune. Good, kind of obvious follow-up could be "Witchy Woman" by Eagles or maybe "Strange Way" by Firefall.
Definitely Witchy Woman, just a badass song...
Good Choices and Evil Ways by Santana
Such a Classic track. Love it..... 💖
Listen to Move It, his first hit from way back in the 50's. Still one of my all time favourite songs... Of all time! 😜
I completely forgot this song even existed! Thanks for the throw-back. Memories jumped back into my brain housing group that I had forgotten for decades.
Cliff's first hit was way back in the 50s and he's been an institution in the UK ever since, hovering somewhere between national treasure and joke status. Your gran would love him
Dave Mason - 'We just disagree' is an excellent 70's not love song
Absolutely awesome song! 🎶👏
ELO had Evil Woman, another great song and don’t forget Witchy Woman by the Eagles, and Black Magic Woman by Santana… you’re on to something Brad! 😂
The producer had obviously got a new toy for Christmas!
I forgot about this song, love it!
Whats that say about women ?
I was rolling.
Good one Brad.
But your woman came back good.
LMFAO 🤣😆🤣😆🤣😆
Very proudly play this loud in the convertible 😊👌 and yes, it's a Trans Am Thank you for playing this 70s Banger ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lovely reaction to one of the many songs from my past. Cheerio to the both of you. Warm greetings from Belgium.
Seeing you guys do Cliff Richard is amazing, would never have imagined it! My Mum loved him so I heard a lot of his stuff growing up, but she also loved David Bowie and Elvis and I definitely appreciate them much more, without knocking too much on Cliff.
He sold really well in the UK but has a slightly undeserved reputation as being irredeemably naff, maybe because he was always well behind the current trend? Looking back from the 2020s a few years here or there don't really make much difference and he definitely had some great songs. I do think there's potential for a minor Kate Bush-type revival/re-discovery/reinterpretation by modern or international audiences. Would be strange to see but super interesting
Brad's "He wasn't talking about cats!" absolutely cracked me up. Great reaction from you both, keep 'em coming!
HUGE radio hit when I was real young.
Cliff Richard had 69 Top Ten singles in the UK. But just 3 in the US (Devil Woman ironically was #9 in the UK but #6 in the US).
"Come in Sue. Now you know how much we enjoy your Wimbledon presentation work. But, and this comes from the top,."
*plays Devil Woman*
You guys are really good, love your selections of music
You guys are great. Love listening to the songs and your comments.
Remember this song! Awesome.
One of the best selling Engish artist ever!! We don't talk anymore is the next cliff song for you guys.
Devil woman is my favourite song by Sir Cliff Richard but we don't talk anymore is a close second.
One of the best selling artist ever.
it was a HUGE hit. try "wildfire" by walter murphy or "shannon" by henry gross or "lonely boy" by andrew gold... these were all huge one hit wonders from the same era. love you guys!!
Dude was bigger than Elvis at one stage. Amazes how such huge stars are just never talked about anymore
Cliff was originally Britain's answer to Elvis in the 1950s (check out his first hit "Move It"). Never as talented as Elvis but he had sufficent talent to escape his teen rebel image and created a very succesful mainstream (pop) career. He's another of that WW2 generation (McCartney, Jagger, Dylan etc) that seems to have discovered the secret to immortality :)
There was a year at the Wimbledon tennis when he was in the audience and it started to rain, Cliff got up and started to sing and one by one most of the women tennis players joined him and they were like his backup group. Google that, its a good one. BTW Cliff was born in India
So glad you looked up this song! Not alot of people check out the less popualrs and the one off songs!
Ha! You got it Lex! Men think they have it all under control until they look into a cool woman's eyes, and suddenly they can't remember a thing! LOL!
Wired For Sound is my favourite song by him, it's incredible
Love this song! ❤
