Ngl back when the undertale fanbase was huge, I had a theory about sans and papyrus mother being a skeleton named Futura 😭
I think it makes a lot of sense why it’s so overused: as soon as you saw it, you immediately started using it as well. Just goes to show how good of a font it is, which would be the major difference between it and comic sans.

I'm getting so tired of hearing "comic sans bad". It is a font designed for a SPECIFIC purpose which is being a COMIC font. Imagine that. Just because people have used it for other purposes just goes to show that it's their lack of taste problem and not the font itself.

Futura was used in Overwatch from the very beginning, but seeing it in Biedronka logo made me laugh out loud
I liked the humor of him playing TF2 music when he mentioned Overwatch.

Yeah, I was shocked when I saw the subs at 1k. I love the simplicity of the channel paired with really good visuals. Though, I think the channel will get its recognition soon enough!

The phenomenon you describe has a name. It's called "typomania" which was coined by type designer Erik Spiekermann. He said:

There's something about Futura that's just makes it so charming to me lol. It's probably because of how simple and bare-bones it is compares to others

If you‘re interested in experimentation with Fonts, I recommend the book series „The Familiar“ by Mark Danielewski. The Author uses different fonts for different characters, providing a very novel and unique reading experience
The guy from House of Leaves! That sounds quite about right that he'd do something like this...
I know that some editions of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (at least mine) do that where they use different fonts and their shapes, sizes etc to express emotions

I don‘t think Sans makes an appearance, but I definitely recommend all of Danielewski‘s literary work. It‘s super fun to read (except Only Revolutions but we don’t talk about that book) and he‘s a super underrated author in my opinion, so I can only recommend it :D

I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE FUTURA. I AM LITERALLY OBSESSED WITH IT. the first time I saw it was in a book in an IKEA store, I noticed the straight „j“s and the symmetrical „u“s.
IKEA's logo is futura (with very tiny serifs on the letters)
I’ll continue using my comic sans with the knowledge that Futura is everywhere

When I saw that Biedronka first thing I thought was "wow it’s really everywhere, how didn’t I notice” and second was the fact I relised you’re actually the first polish person I heard that speaks english without polish accent. Finally found someone and I’m happy. Also interesting channel, I think I’ll stay here longer

When I clicked on this video I thought you were going to mention Cooper Black cause I saw a Vox video on it with a similar title but this is so much better oh my god. I will further perpetuate this haunting phenomenon and use this in all my films heheh. (Sidenote I love all your vfx they are so fun to watch!! :D )

5:57 has nothing to do with the video, but „Swissair“ went bankrupt in 2001, the new airline is just called „Swiss“ (apparently the font they use is Univers 65 Bold)
Myriad, the default font made and used by Adobe in their products is also absolutely everywhere and hiding in plain sight. It was the main font Apple used for their product names and website in the 2000s (wherever it said iPhone, iPod etc.), it's used in some places by Nintendo like for the product info and serial numbers on some of their hardware and is used in many famous logos like LinkedIn, Walmart, Rolls Royce & Visa. But really where you'll find it the most is in random places here and there in real life.
theres also this font called cooper black. it has big bold curvy letters. you see it in the tootsie roll logo, the alphabet magnet toys, and MANY signs on the road. once you recognize it, you notice it’s literally everywhere.
How about Unifont? It's the font on your grocery bills, the Unicode font for Minecraft and it generally has the most Unicode symbols available, so it's a must for those scenarios

Here in Brazil, I can pretty much say the default font is Arial. And not the normal Arial, the one they distort upwards until it isn't the same font anymore.
I feel like Futura seems to be great in small quantity? As in, if you write a whole paper or novel in Futura, it starts to look a bit weird. But when you just need to get a simple, short, concise message out, Futura is great.
I guess that’s why it gets used for logos so much, and why it worked well as subtitles.
yup, i think it's not the most legible once you use it for more than a full paragraph. it definitely looks clean, but i'm not sure it was designed to be used for longer reading

Skyrim's UI and subtitles are also in Futura, which is weird since Skyrim is a Medieval fantasy game and it's using a font that literally means "future" or "futuristic".
The irony of the thumbnail CONTAINING Futura is the cherry on top of this amazingly made video!
Century Gothic is a decently similar font to Futura, which is also used pretty often. All of the ones you mentioned are correct to my knowledge, though.

I love Futura's lowercase j which is the lowercase i but longer, not bent, but in most of its clones, the lowercase j is just normal, bent.

5:30 I think Optima and Trajan are good candidates for fonts that are Everywhere. Maybe not as hiding-in-plain-sight, though.
Roboto - Googles basic font (UA-cam uses it as well)
Papyrus - It's used in the Avatar blue alien movie in the form of its logo.
as a sign designer i use futura a lot! its an amazing versatile font that can be used almost anywhere, not to mention its also very modern

Futura (more specifically the condensed bold one) will always be my favorite font because of the amount of discord meme gifs that use it

another font you'll start noticing everywhere once you've seen it once is Anna ITC. pairs very well with futura too.
