I heard we have this weird ability to sense what made us sick and like feel ill when we think about it... I remember eating bad soup once and despite not getting sick until meals later, I knew it was the soup that made me sick. Maybe something worth a video!
Also weird how we can sometimes identify specific ingredients in a dish even after it has been thoroughly combined. I once had a vegan cake that was exactly like normal cake, except I could still taste the soy milk that was used in the batter. And it was the only ingredient I could single out, even after everything was mixed and baked. So weird.
May also be because you already knew the soup was bad, so you just linked the bad soup to your subsequent illness. Or if you didn't and I misunderstood your comment, just ignore this hahaha
One of my favorite fair foods is the smoked turkey leg, always found it filling without the sickness from deep frying, portable ways it’s alright since it’s wrapped up in tinfoil, so seeing that another turkey leg meal is viable is cool to see
Also my favorite renn fair food. The one and only complaint I have about them is that sometimes you can barely hold them if they're hot, gotta get some extra napkins and wrap the bottom.
@@JohnClark-tt2blI'd be careful about renfaire turkey legs. Sometimes they're just frozen at end of season and put out again next year... And sometimes more than once.
The way I screamed at this episode! Why did you do that to him, Matthew?! Side note - I know it was Santi's idea but North Carolina Fair food is not to be mocked! 😂
Wow! 15:46 we have something similar in Brazil. We just call them "little grapes" and it's very commom on kid's parties. It's one of my favourite "candy"
Wow as a native who's been attending that fair for 40 years, I can honestly say y'all are the first ones I've ever heard talk smack about deep fried candybars! I, personally, only just tried a bite of a deep fried Oreo this year, and I can't lie - it was pretty freaking good. My late husband and I would usually share a cheesesteak or sausage and peppers then keep it simple with the funnel cake (which we never were able to finish until our son joined the party!) Oh, and I also finally tried a giant turkey leg this year, too! That was unbelievable ❤
I know the Oreos are a favorite. I personally love the deep fried Snickers. They did kinda hate on Snickers themselves though which was and still is my favorite candy bar. This year I tried deep gold Oreos with strawberries, strawberry sauce and whip honestly one of the best fair foods I've ever tried and I go every year and try a couple new things each year.
I think it’s bc it wasn’t hot. I recently had my first, the deep fried snicker and it was so good but one thing that comes to mind is how hot and melted it was like the hot donuts at Krispy creme
@@RitzTheBestChannel I've not tried deep fried snickers but I have had both fresh/hot deep fried Oreos and not so fresh or hot ones and can say that temperature is definitely important. That said at a fair by the time you find a place to sit and eat your food is often cold. Since I've not tried deep fried snickers myself I don't know how they hold up to the deep fried treatment and whether or not they'd be overpowering even when fresh (which seemed to be their main criticism). Of course it's also possible that they got ones that weren't made right, I've had deep fried Oreos that were like 90% breading which is terrible (there needs to be a balance).
So many editing gems in this video, poor Santi! Seeing Steph made me think about a food theory focused on tea: can cooking with different teas in place of water improve a meals flavor? I may just want tea recs tho 😅
Okay but I can definitely recommend getting some of those candy grapes at the store and freezing them. They're super refreshing cold treats I the hot summer weather
I love Matpats family friendly comedy, Man handling pickles is definitely not hinting at anything sus. Its weird that these hilarious suggestive bits keep popping up randomly trhough his videos

it would be interesting to see a food theory on how taste buds work. specifically why our tastebuds are different in our childhoods or an episode on how do some people turn into picky eaters and why others eat anything even though they live they grew up the same.
Tornado potato is the best thing at a fair, hands down. If you don't know what a tornado potato is, it's a fried potato that was swirl cut and can be put on a stick or in a nacho container. It can be seasoned with anything, but most stalls have garlic and regular seasoning salt. It's like the most fun French fry you could ever have. Too delicious for words, and the only thing I cannot NOT get at my fair.
@@Schradermusic yes, because it's delicious. All fair foods are marked up. Everything about the fair is a markup. Most people don't go to the fair because they know that, but you also can't get tornado potato at any other time of the year. And if you can, it isn't done right. You also have to realize that it's perfect for kids, or people with smaller stomachs like me. Imagine if it was 3 potatoes and you could only finish one and a half. Not only is that a huge waste of money, but it also makes you really guilty. The fact is, those potatoes are filling.
Matpat: “I am thankful for being able to share this moment with the team ❤” Also Matpat: “I just enjoyed the ride, but it made it so much more special watching you utterly hate every moment”
You gotta do this again next year at the Minnesota State Fair. There are so many more weird foods there as well as some strange food related sights (such as the butter princess).
I’ve been eating turkey legs and enjoying them since I was kid at every renaissance fair and now I’m learning that I was eating secretly the best fair food widely available, huh
😁It was nice to see Santi again! Very fun fair adventure & it was interesting to see the food tasting reactions for the different combos! The commentary was fun and so was the goodbye from so many people on the theory team!

12:32 calgary stampede is known around here for mini donute. Deep fried crispy donuts with powdered sugar. Amazing... We dont put hot sauce on them though.
Matt should do a food theory for the "foods" at the San Diego County Fair. I would recommend the booth with menu items that are named after various heart issues like cardiac arrest or double bypass.
12:32 Out of everything so far the Hot Cheetos and corn is the most normal thing. 17:27 The Big Mac egg roll actually sounds pretty good 😊🍔😋 19:57 With Thanksgiving coming up in a couple weeks this seems very appropriate and seems like something I'd definitely enjoy. 😊
I haven’t been at my town’s fair in years though but the last I went I had the buttery corn on a cob every time I go to the Canada’s Wonderland I always buy a funnel cake - fried dough with vanilla ice cream and chunky strawberry sauce 🤤 The only nasty thing I came close to trying was deep fried pickles from the CNE - Canadian National Expo Toronto hosts every year at the end of the summer
I just want to say thank you for your content my two brothers left me for college when I was 9 years old and my mom got Covid but you helped me pass these hard times ❤❤❤❤❤
Y'all should try going to Knott's Berry Farm next year - a certain pair of spooky lads have done so at least twice, and have had nothing but good things to say about the food and drinks there. 😋 Plus, the history behind the both theme park's and signature berry's creations is pretty cool!
I have vague memories of Knott's Berry Farm. Last time I was out that way I was about 15 I think, the main thing I remember is going on a ride and the operator learning I'm from Ohio and turning it up so I wouldn't fall asleep. For those not aware Knott's Berry Farm is owned by Cedar Fair who's main park, Cedar Point, is in Ohio. A lot of rides at Knott's Berry Farm are basically smaller, slower versions of Cedar Point rides though they do sometime get the benefit of being built later like their version of Top Thrill which is angled a little bit different so it doesn't break down so often (there's actually work being done on the original to add another section and I presume make other adjustments so it's more reliable).
My favorite food to get from the AZ state fair is the MONSTER corn dog! It's like a foot-and-a-half of fried sausage-y goodness! Slather that in ketchup & mustard... oh yes!
No funnel cake?! Fried oreos, pork rinds, kettle corn, FAIR LAEMONADE?!?!? If this is Santi’s first time at a fair then you’ve DEPRIVED THE MAN!!! PS: the state fair I grew up with always had a booth from the fire department and they served pulled pork sandwiches 😍. Same department would sell sandwiches as a fund raiser twice a year. Cherished memory. They were so good.
State Fairs have always had weird, zany food. I've tried many of the weird food flavors and I loved them. Never liked the peanut butter pickles though. Tastes like dog food. 😬
I think to find the "perfect" fair food, you also need to add "how full do you feel after eating" it's so expensive that most people need something that will fill them up and can't buy every food possible.
Focus on protein if you want to feel full. A lot of people binge eat because they eat things with tons of carbs like bread (which is especially bad in the States due to sugar content) and pasta. The bread and pasta don't actually give you energy (in fact they deplete it) so your body keeps asking for more food. Our diets tend to be lacking in protein (at least here in the States) probably because a lot of our eating habits are based on the old food pyramid which was designed to keep soldiers fed for cheap not actually maintain them long term (there's a Food Theory video about it). To be clear carbs aren't entirely bad, we do need some and if you exercise enough you can actually burn the carbs and not suffer too much of the ill effects but you need a lot of exercise, far more than most of us have time for.
Just found this video, and since I grew up and lived a large portion of my life in Raleigh I am getting so much joy out of seeing them eat this food in front of Dorton Arena and the WRAL News cutouts! This could only be the NC State Fair!
Here in brazil we have whats called ´´hotPhiladelphia´´ (Idk if theres something like this in the Us but i guess not since the reaction matpat had) and it´s sushi deepfried (it looks much better than the one in the video tho), i love it, everyone i know loves it, its amazing. Weird to see one of my favorite food in the ´´weird food´´ video. We eat it with tarê sauce and it´s incredible
*(**12:05**)* "I feel a bit uneasy down there..." 🤭 Well, no worries friend... I'm sure there's some sort of topical medication that'll have that cleared up in no time! 😊

So weird.
I actually thought about this before seeing this comment during this video. This 100% deserves a video..
Another gift of nature thanks to our big brains.
This is absolutely a solid idea. And I’ve def had that feeling before when being sick. It’s the worst and ruins that food forever. 😂
4:42 I’m dying 😭
YAY IM FIRST TO COMMENT/REPLY ON SOMETHING
Thank you for doing things we don't want to for content Mat. Really you are one of the UA-camrs of all time.
How is it made?
Been going to the NC state fair every year for 20 years and I can safely say I've never had any of this stuff. Might try the grapes next time.
So many editing gems in this video, poor Santi! Seeing Steph made me think about a food theory focused on tea: can cooking with different teas in place of water improve a meals flavor? I may just want tea recs tho 😅
"How did you manhandle your own pickle??!" Had me deaaadd 🤣💀
23:16 someone needs to photograph this moment, frame it, and put it on a wall. Thank you for the amazing videos team theorist
Okay but I can definitely recommend getting some of those candy grapes at the store and freezing them. They're super refreshing cold treats I the hot summer weather
What are they called? Like is there a brand?
I love Matpats family friendly comedy, Man handling pickles is definitely not hinting at anything sus. Its weird that these hilarious suggestive bits keep popping up randomly trhough his videos
The legend himself uploaded again... I've watched 20 of your vids today, they're so interesting and u and the team spend so long to make these videos so we gotta enjoy them! Thanks for making content for us Matt!! And also hats off to the editor! :)
20 EPISODES?!? Have you been watching for 5 hours?
18:40 Chicken and waffles isnt risky lol theres entire restaurants dedicated to it and ranch is just my go to with chicken bacon goes good with waffles so i think its just an obvious falvor combo
I love the fact there are pop ups of people in suits to make it feel more like a business matter and not a garden ramsy food contest
“Garden ramsy” 😂
@@Apupvhe’s Gordon Ramsay for garden growing
it would be interesting to see a food theory on how taste buds work. specifically why our tastebuds are different in our childhoods or an episode on how do some people turn into picky eaters and why others eat anything even though they live they grew up the same.
10:45 I’m sorry. Santi cheering as he went down the slide made me laugh about how much fun he was having.
I'm loving the Santi x Mat combo! 2nd fav pairing after Steph n Mat!
Right with you! Every time I see there’s chip on a stick available at a fair or market then you can bet I’m there grabbing one
@@drayriuskilk1874 yes! Onward to victory!
It surely is the best thing when it comes to profit for whoever sells it. It's literally one potato sold for a HUGE markup.
It's just inefficient potato chips. Even if it's incredibly delicious, it's just a waste of time to have it swirled like that.
Matpat: “I am thankful for being able to share this moment with the team ❤”
Also Matpat: “I just enjoyed the ride, but it made it so much more special watching you utterly hate every moment”
“HOW DID YOU MAN HANDLE YOUR PICKLE” Matt outside of the studio is wild.
Loved seeing the weird food combos, I would never be able to push myself into eating all that!
😁It was nice to see Santi again! Very fun fair adventure & it was interesting to see the food tasting reactions for the different combos! The commentary was fun and so was the goodbye from so many people on the theory team!
Me reading this comment two months later knowing santi is taking over
@@AthenaBadassSinorita 🥲
now that i know whos going to be taking over for matt on al his channels, I'm really excited to see what the future has in store for team theorists! :)
3:32 I remember the time when me and my troop had deep fried Oreos, it was actually pretty good not going to lie.
What is the snippet at 4:35, I’m dying here and need a source 🤣🤣🤣
13:58 Man we heard it here folks Matpat likes drinking cleaning products
Bro doesn't know about the 2nd hot ones ep

Im so scared of what a pickle donut is supposed to be😭
@DontReadMyPicture_read it
Probably a bit of vinegar, dill, and salt in the "frosting", topped with pickle slices, on a neutral sweet bread, potato bread, or light cornbread
I have heard rumor it is unexpectedly good... kind of in-line with the likes of dill pickle ice cream... tried neither though.
13:45 Mat's face being stretched at rotated as he makes sound effects is not something that I realized I wanted in life.
The fried sushi we have here in Brazil, we often call it Hot California, it's easier to find than the normal sushi, it's cheaper too.
4:29 OMG THATS ACTUALLY HILARIOUS 😂😂😂
12:32 Out of everything so far the Hot Cheetos and corn is the most normal thing.
17:27 The Big Mac egg roll actually sounds pretty good 😊🍔😋
19:57 With Thanksgiving coming up in a couple weeks this seems very appropriate and seems like something I'd definitely enjoy. 😊
Man I want hot Cheeto corn now...
I could go for a big mac roll
The editing on this video is so entertaining, love it
I hope they got Santi (I'm sorry if I spelled it wrong) some delicious deep-fried oreos for being an absolute trooper through these
I’m not into weird foods fair or otherwise, but That is the one strange fair food I’ve always wanted to try! 👍
@@SecretWars98 it's the best i get them every year I go to the fair
"the Oreo video"
Honestly, I love it when Santi features in the videos. He's so unhinged
You are such a great man to test such foods.
The food theories inspires me... My parents said if i get 50k followers they'd buy me a professional camera for recording begging u guys❤️
@DontReadMyPicture_ok
6:09 I LOVED this gentlemen's warning from matpat 😂😂
I haven’t been at my town’s fair in years though but the last I went I had the buttery corn on a cob
every time I go to the Canada’s Wonderland I always buy a funnel cake - fried dough with vanilla ice cream and chunky strawberry sauce 🤤
The only nasty thing I came close to trying was deep fried pickles from the CNE - Canadian National Expo Toronto hosts every year at the end of the summer
This duo is amazing! Do more like this in the future please ❤
19:43 Enjoy your retirement Maptpat!!! ❤
Santis doing great with FT
I just want to say thank you for your content my two brothers left me for college when I was 9 years old and my mom got Covid but you helped me pass these hard times ❤❤❤❤❤
Hey food theory, why must we eat bland food/soups when we're sick? I know the default "it'll upset your stomach" but is there something more to it?
I got an ad for tide pods right before the crew tried the food at 15:05 💀
11:28 Oh, sweet state fair newby. A state fair can make you so happy and hurt so much.
I'm so jealous. I'm a freak when it comes to food and my friends can attest to that. So a food challenge like thus would have been fun.
I would also love to see the nutritional breakdown to the best of their ability of each of the dishes.
17:22 Chicken and Waffles, on a stick. Genius!
this duo needs more screen time
Y'all should try going to Knott's Berry Farm next year - a certain pair of spooky lads have done so at least twice, and have had nothing but good things to say about the food and drinks there.
Slather that in ketchup & mustard... oh yes!
5:22 I’ve had these before! They call them sushi pops where I’ve gotten them and they’re SO GOOD. I allways eat them with teriyaki sauce.
As an NC native this makes me want to go next year. Ive never been before.
*(**12:05**)* "I feel a bit uneasy down there..." 🤭 Well, no worries friend... I'm sure there's some sort of topical medication that'll have that cleared up in no time! 😊
always love these videos with both Mat and Santi
