I do hope the regular stans don't find this video and start bringing up "Yeji supports!!!" in fanwars...KVA made it seem like support is extremely rare among pop musicians and many people still act that way. In reality, support is a spectrum and most people with minimal (proper) training will be able to have some degree of shallow support.

Anyways, what made you put Yeji over Yuqi (yea I know Yuqi's mix is like reallyyyyyy underwhelming and quite unimpressive, but she would have the lows to save her even if they're nothing outstanding either, right) btw? @@KittyTsundere the two are heavy throaty chest-pullers but yeji still manages a bit better the G#-Bb4 range, and having in mind they’re both sopranos it’s a better asset imo. but i don’t care enough to argue if one think otherwise, this bottom line is pretty much the same lol
@ I might be wrong but despite her limitations I remember hearing cleaner fuller mid range from Yuqi up to A4 when Idle went to sketchbook and in her solo studio covers, she is inconsistent above G4 but I wouldn't say she can't do fine on A4ish at times.
About Yeji, if you search well enough you can find passable notes for any Soprano below A4 (ig you know that but just saying it so it will be clear) but I guess I can kinda get why you put her where you did for her not too thin tonality and not being completely messy, still find her underwhelming but that is expected.
That last Yeji A4 that you highlighted sounds really promising. If Yeji can continue to further develop her mid range to that quality + her natural ease in mixing higher in the 5th octave, she has a chance at surpassing Lia in technical singing.
@@Lucas-jw4fy I'm literally not? Objectively speaking, Lia's handle on A4's is still subpar and she loses stability very easily due to poor stamina and breath control. She isn't cleaner as throughout her range she is nasal, airy and stuck. And stronger is a stretch cuz Lia albeit can sound just as shallow as Yeji at times very easily. And I'm not even insinuating that Yeji is *already* the strongest singer in Itzy, I'm just saying that she has the chance to do so.

I'm so glad that you took a closer look at V. I've watched the vid and I agree with pretty much all your statements. I knew that I wasn't tripping when I thought that Vcan definitely support more than a C#4 when I first read KVA's analysis of him. I've heard him sing higher than that and still hear traces of support. Your video confirmed my thoughts for a while now, and some of his F4s lowkey sound better than his Eb4s 🙈

And speaking of JY, vocal wise I love how she's been getting so many opportunities to showcase her mix higher in the 5th octave. I was also shocked at Tzuyu's voice, it sounds promising to me. Nayeon was mixing for ha life in the final chorus and she ate. I ended up liking Dahyun's voice on this track a lot more, she needs to sing more often.
The abc cover was the best Sullyoon has sounded imo, her tone seriously shined so much. Bae's voice was coming THROUGH whenever she joined in for a harmony and it sounds so good. Nmixx's ear for harmonization, sense of musicality and dynamics are so good and it seriously showed in this cover now.
Suhyeon is such a great vocalist. People always want to downplay her being a main vocal since Haram is a bit better than her in vocal technique, but Suhyeon is still close to Haram.

I have hope now, maybe Itzy is now working with vocal coaches that worked with NMIXX. I have a theory, somehow it seems like Lia is more confident singer when she dances. I think she might be anxious when she dances cause she's allowed to sound not the best and people wouldn't only point at her vocals but also at the fact she's dancing. It breaks my heart to see how much hate she's received for Red while it's clear that nerves did their job. She could have done better, but truth to be told she's the only one who has done a stage without a load backtrack. I hope she'll work on tehnique and confidence, she has beautiful tone.

I think Jihyo focuses more on improving preformances and stamina (and she's clearly great at it) and if I'm not mistaken she had some regression. Don't know how much Jeongyeon can do since 2020 due her health and injury but I hope she can do it.

However, anyways, I also do think people need to chill with the rankings (since they're not entirely objective and it's not like it's an established vocal pedagogy concept anyways (well of course not) lmao...like sure, it's nice to know how your faves compare to other idols in terms of skill, but two different people can disagree over where a certain idol is placed among the rankings and it's fine as long there is a valid and good reason from both sides (eg Lily for AA vs AA-P)...aka based on personal technical preferences/criteria) as the obsession with the rankings does take away the true purpose of learning vocal technique tbqh. So that I don't sound like a hypocrite, I also do my own rankings too, but the first page of my rankings contains my personal technical criteria (like what I'm personally looking for technically in each vocalist so that I can rank them as necessary) and a disclaimer statement that my rankings don't necessarily reflect the whole vocal community's opinions lol.

Seems to be the case actually, especially after this new album. Ever since the world tour, her placement has gotten better in her mid range and there's less instances of her sounding tighter and more nasal than back during 2020-2021. There are choice moments where she does get nasal but I don't find it as severe as back in 2021 when her small regression started showing. And now her approach into the 5th octave sounds way better than what she used to be doing since debut so that's a plus. Afaik, she never had B4/C5? Her consistency in support capped at B4, even during her regression. There is always the chance she'll eventually reach that tho since there are some pretty acceptable C5's in the album and if she can do it live then no issue there.

@@carloschacon104 If I remember correctly Jihyo was around Mid/High A? So the ranking would probably go Seulgi>Tiffany>Winter>=Jihyo. I've seen arguments that Jihyo is stronger than Winter but I find Winter's effort into producing rounder and fuller sounds throughout G4~B4 gives her the edge and Jihyo can still get tighter and more nasal compared to Winter. cmiiw though, its been a while since I really delved into Twice vocals ever since I started focusing on 4th gen last year lol

Hm... that Nmixx/Loona collab was okay. Kyujin was the strongest singer in that unit but she ended up getting Moonbyul's rapping lines but she still ate with her all rounder self and all. The big climax harmony during the bridge was kinda.... Anyway Nmixx ate as usual and hoping for more opportunities soon

About this five, how would you rank them? Kyujin, Nayeon, Giselle, Sullyoon, Jinni? Are they pretty much interchangeable? Cause it’s very confusing it’s similar to Mina, Jennie, Yuqi, Chaeyoung and Yeji case. Some pages I see putting Sullyoon (that page feels like heaven) above all the others. I think the grades were Sullyoon (32), Kyujin (31) and Nayeon and Jinni (28) and Giselle (26). HOLY SHIT YALL IVE JUST RELEASED SOTY LIKE... After Like and My Satisfaction is so good I'm screaming, crying, throwing up. My 2 cents: Rei sounded so good in After Like and I'm so glad she has so many vocal lines. Actually all the members got the spotlight in the song from singing to rapping. My Satisfaction is such a mindfuck like that is one of the craziest outros ever for a song. Yujin actually outdid herself. Liz sounded amazinggg during the bridge and I'm also loving all the lower registers in the verses. This cb is like 100/10 it's actually crazy Edit (now that I've taken the time to carefully listen to the songs): Vocally, maybe nothing significant improvement wise but I'm glad to hear Liz and Rei getting more exposure in vocals. I am curious as to figure out who was doing the HV ad libs in the second prechorus. Liz also sounds a bit stronger and bolder especially in My Satisfaction but I'll wait until the recording behind comes out since I can trust Ive will release a bts video like that.

My opinion on 'After Like': My favourite part is probably a pre-chorus. It is a pretty nice transition from verses to choruses. Talking about the verses, well, I liked Rei's parts but I find it a little bit underwhelming that the first and the second verse are so similar (identical, I can say). I guess autotune (correct me If the way the vocals were processed is called differently) ruined the chorus and some parts in the verses for me. The bridge was, to my regrets, just a repetition of the chorus. As for raps, I'm happy to hear more from Rei but Gaeul's part was a little bit lackluster. The sample doesn't match so well with the rest of the song and the choreo during it wasn't suitable as well, but I liked that part where the camera moves from the left member to the right one MV has some random scenes, especially their close-ups gave me this feeling

I wouldn't say there's this gap between Jennie and Mina, if anything Mina has more passable moments than Jennie imo. There also isn't this amount of gap between Yeji and Irene, Yeji can support shallowly and inconsistently but Irene has nice low register.
It's actually Jennie > Chaeyoung >= Mina. Chae and Mina are close, only Chae supports to some extent or she doesn't really support imo. Jennie usually is ok w her G4-Bb4 range. Although she has more quirks compared to the two, she actually has some chest presence and better cords.
i heard that nmixx and xdinary hereos were trained by JYPE’s A&R team. that explains why XH has two average vocalists and nmixx has all members that can support as well as two AA vocalists

@@haely2384 Nmixx always know how to give justice to a cover. Sullyoon had her first F5, two short phrased ones. The first F5 was either flat or she cracked a bit, its kinda hard to hear cuz of the audio quality but she did just fine the second time. Haewon did great lightening up her mix to hit the G5 and Lily sustained a G5 too. Sounded really good considering it's clearly live and they were jumping around.

The only example I could think of is On masked singer, and while someone might find it unpleasant it still was a choice for that delivery. Still even if her vibrato isn't the best which is true, there are better ways to say that is underdeveloped than just say she sounds like a "goat."

To add on, besides the obvious Jongho, the second and third is definitely San and Seonghwa, but I don't hear support from either of them from the few clips ive heard. I'll take a closer look at both of them because the rest don't seem worth analysing. Yeoun currently has San in the same tier as Jake, which doesn't sit right to me because I think that San is stronger than Jake. Perhaps I can find enough material from him to move up to E instead of remaining at F.

Thoughts on StayC J’s voice type? She’s a very obvious Soprano but I hear some extra weight. I hear it too. Maybe it has something to do with her throaty style of singing adding this "weight" to her voice? Tbh I don't even know if you can call it "weight" but it adds some type of depth to her voice, similar to how Bae sounds when she sings super stylistically. But then... whenever J sings without that forced and unnatural deep voice, she's pretty much a full on light soprano. But yeah ig we can't really know for sure cuz she isn't well developed

@@SoulVelvet Yeahh this. Naturally fuller voice types generally always carry some thickness and audibly heavier qualities in their voices regardless of approach.
I think she just has a habit of lowering her larynx, doesn’t sound like there’s a natural weight on her voice. She sounds just as girly as light as any other sopranos when she’s phrasing the F#5, E5s on beautiful monster

True. But I think it's just that non singers just rarely tell the difference between singers with good and bad techniques. They just like the one that 'sounds good', and stylistic singers with unique voices tend to be the ones that stand out.

It's me again with a bunch of questions hahaha. First, can anyone tell me about Shinee's (+Jonghyun) supported range/tiers, cuz i have been seeing very different answers online, so I'm kinda confused. Second, can someone try to explain to me how to differentiate if a note is supported or carries support, because I seem to confuse notes that carry some support for supported notes a lot lately. Thanks in advance!!
Personally, a well supported note comes out open, relatively relaxed, clean, grounded and carries the natural weight of one's voice. It's a lot easier to identify support in the voice if we follow through with the standards of vocal support in more classical singing as they really emphasize the proper use of the diaphragm. Support can still be present even with issues such as tension, nasality, etc. but of course if those issues get *too* present in the voice , support gets obstructed and the voice loses that stronger quality. I suggest just comparing singers and the differences in the quality of their voices can get you used to what support should sound like, you can also always just ask questions if youre curious.

Yeji is a bit more consistent, but I remember something being said about Jennie's sense of support being stronger when present and when she generally puts effort Reminds me a bit of the Jennie > Mina situation Just like Yeji, Mina is a bit more consistent than Jennie and Mina seems to be somehow more relaxed in general, but apparently Jennie showcases better coordination than her and also at her best has stronger moments that what Mina has at her best Jennie's main problem really seems to be her not trying that often. Her best moments show that she has development, but because she isn't focused and doesn't put effort that often, it can all go unnoticed

Her peak rank was at average to above-average (A3/Bb3 - C#5). She also had a resonant range of G4-C#5. Even with the resonant range, I don’t think she would’ve ranked at above-average to proficient or even above-average as she’s never supported her head voice and her low register is below average. Anyone cmiiw though, it’s what I’ve gathered so far haha

And since it’s mostly her mid-range in this scenario, Baek Yerin’s coordination with her A4~Eb5 belts are still better developed than anything Lily has shown so far with better roundness as well, only Lily’s head-voice puts her closer.

About Yeji, if you search well enough you can find passable notes for any Soprano below A4 (ig you know that but just saying it so it will be clear) but I guess I can kinda get why you put her where you did for her not too thin tonality and not being completely messy, still find her underwhelming but that is expected.

And I'm not even insinuating that Yeji is *already* the strongest singer in Itzy, I'm just saying that she has the chance to do so.

And speaking of JY, vocal wise I love how she's been getting so many opportunities to showcase her mix higher in the 5th octave. I was also shocked at Tzuyu's voice, it sounds promising to me. I have a theory, somehow it seems like Lia is more confident singer when she dances. I think she might be anxious when she dances cause she's allowed to sound not the best and people wouldn't only point at her vocals but also at the fact she's dancing.
It breaks my heart to see how much hate she's received for Red while it's clear that nerves did their job. She could have done better, but truth to be told she's the only one who has done a stage without a load backtrack.
I hope she'll work on tehnique and confidence, she has beautiful tone.

However, anyways, I also do think people need to chill with the rankings (since they're not entirely objective and it's not like it's an established vocal pedagogy concept anyways (well of course not) lmao...like sure, it's nice to know how your faves compare to other idols in terms of skill, but two different people can disagree over where a certain idol is placed among the rankings and it's fine as long there is a valid and good reason from both sides (eg Lily for AA vs AA-P)...aka based on personal technical preferences/criteria) as the obsession with the rankings does take away the true purpose of learning vocal technique tbqh.
So that I don't sound like a hypocrite, I also do my own rankings too, but the first page of my rankings contains my personal technical criteria (like what I'm personally looking for technically in each vocalist so that I can rank them as necessary) and a disclaimer statement that my rankings don't necessarily reflect the whole vocal community's opinions lol.

Seems to be the case actually, especially after this new album. Ever since the world tour, her placement has gotten better in her mid range and there's less instances of her sounding tighter and more nasal than back during 2020-2021. There are choice moments where she does get nasal but I don't find it as severe as back in 2021 when her small regression started showing. And now her approach into the 5th octave sounds way better than what she used to be doing since debut so that's a plus.
Afaik, she never had B4/C5? Her consistency in support capped at B4, even during her regression. There is always the chance she'll eventually reach that tho since there are some pretty acceptable C5's in the album and if she can do it live then no issue there.

I've seen arguments that Jihyo is stronger than Winter but I find Winter's effort into producing rounder and fuller sounds throughout G4~B4 gives her the edge and Jihyo can still get tighter and more nasal compared to Winter. cmiiw though, its been a while since I really delved into Twice vocals ever since I started focusing on 4th gen last year lol

HOLY SHIT YALL IVE JUST RELEASED SOTY LIKE... After Like and My Satisfaction is so good I'm screaming, crying, throwing up. My 2 cents: Rei sounded so good in After Like and I'm so glad she has so many vocal lines. Actually all the members got the spotlight in the song from singing to rapping. My Satisfaction is such a mindfuck like that is one of the craziest outros ever for a song. Yujin actually outdid herself. Liz sounded amazinggg during the bridge and I'm also loving all the lower registers in the verses. This cb is like 100/10 it's actually crazy
Edit (now that I've taken the time to carefully listen to the songs): Vocally, maybe nothing significant improvement wise but I'm glad to hear Liz and Rei getting more exposure in vocals. I am curious as to figure out who was doing the HV ad libs in the second prechorus. Liz also sounds a bit stronger and bolder especially in My Satisfaction but I'll wait until the recording behind comes out since I can trust Ive will release a bts video like that.

My opinion on 'After Like':
My favourite part is probably a pre-chorus. It is a pretty nice transition from verses to choruses. Talking about the verses, well, I liked Rei's parts but I find it a little bit underwhelming that the first and the second verse are so similar (identical, I can say). I guess autotune (correct me If the way the vocals were processed is called differently) ruined the chorus and some parts in the verses for me. The bridge was, to my regrets, just a repetition of the chorus.
As for raps, I'm happy to hear more from Rei but Gaeul's part was a little bit lackluster. The sample doesn't match so well with the rest of the song and the choreo during it wasn't suitable as well, but I liked that part where the camera moves from the left member to the right one
MV has some random scenes, especially their close-ups gave me this feeling
After like was kind of a disappoinment after love dive for me .....

It's actually Jennie > Chaeyoung >= Mina. Chae and Mina are close, only Chae supports to some extent or she doesn't really support imo. Jennie usually is ok w her G4-Bb4 range. Although she has more quirks compared to the two, she actually has some chest presence and better cords.

@@haely2384 Nmixx always know how to give justice to a cover. Sullyoon had her first F5, two short phrased ones. The first F5 was either flat or she cracked a bit, its kinda hard to hear cuz of the audio quality but she did just fine the second time. Haewon did great lightening up her mix to hit the G5 and Lily sustained a G5 too. Sounded really good considering it's clearly live and they were jumping around.

To add on, besides the obvious Jongho, the second and third is definitely San and Seonghwa, but I don't hear support from either of them from the few clips ive heard. I'll take a closer look at both of them because the rest don't seem worth analysing. Yeoun currently has San in the same tier as Jake, which doesn't sit right to me because I think that San is stronger than Jake. I’ve never heard that kind of bright, young, weightless sound from weighty sopranos but I’m not sure if it’s cause she’s not properly developed.
I hear it too. Maybe it has something to do with her throaty style of singing adding this "weight" to her voice? Tbh I don't even know if you can call it "weight" but it adds some type of depth to her voice, similar to how Bae sounds when she sings super stylistically. But then... whenever J sings without that forced and unnatural deep voice, she's pretty much a full on light soprano. But yeah ig we can't really know for sure cuz she isn't well developed

It applies not only to them, I guess. An ordinary person doesn't realise the sophistication of technical singing but can appreciate one's timbre

Personally, a well supported note comes out open, relatively relaxed, clean, grounded and carries the natural weight of one's voice. It's a lot easier to identify support in the voice if we follow through with the standards of vocal support in more classical singing as they really emphasize the proper use of the diaphragm. Support can still be present even with issues such as tension, nasality, etc. but of course if those issues get *too* present in the voice , support gets obstructed and the voice loses that stronger quality. I suggest just comparing singers and the differences in the quality of their voices can get you used to what support should sound like, you can also always just ask questions if youre curious.

I don’t really know how Danik tries to argue when someone corrects him or gives him an update, but yea, I did want to contact Danik because I really think that their supported range recorded for V is a bit outdated especially with me spending 3 months finding 20+ content of him supporting at least Eb4 just fine with enough consistency on Eb4 lmao.
not related but rosè improvements seems showing rn. she's clearly trying to create a rounder sound now compare to her early/past live performances. im quite impressed tho.
Not only that, but she's improved her isolations in dance which were her one of weak points.

yeji is a more focused and hence a more consistent vocalist. i wouldn’t say jennie has a consistent grasp anywhere in her range personally

That's an arguable question. Yeji is a bit more consistent, but I remember something being said about Jennie's sense of support being stronger when present and when she generally puts effort

Just like Yeji, Mina is a bit more consistent than Jennie and Mina seems to be somehow more relaxed in general, but apparently Jennie showcases better coordination than her and also at her best has stronger moments that what Mina has at her best
Jennie's main problem really seems to be her not trying that often.
Her best moments show that she has development, but because she isn't focused and doesn't put effort that often, it can all go unnoticed

Her peak rank was at average to above-average (A3/Bb3 - C#5). She also had a resonant range of G4-C#5. Even with the resonant range, I don’t think she would’ve ranked at above-average to proficient or even above-average as she’s never supported her head voice and her low register is below average. Anyone cmiiw though, it’s what I’ve gathered so far haha

@@days3164 I mean I don’t see why she would be that much higher? It’s not like Yerin’s mid-range is lacking much in comparison to Solji. And since it’s mostly her mid-range in this scenario, Baek Yerin’s coordination with her A4~Eb5 belts are still better developed than anything Lily has shown so far with better roundness as well, only Lily’s head-voice puts her closer.

Because she’s definetly much more intense and more belt-like in that range than Yerin (especially below F#4, which Yerin tends to sing them like low notes).

She’s one of the very few undeveloped vocalists (for now) who can’t really be interchangeable with the other undeveloped vocalists IMO since she’s the closest (or one of the closest) to supoorting and aside from her throatiness, doesn’t seem to face the same issues that other undeveloped vocalists do lol.
Here’s hoping Tzuyu can join Mina in the underdevloped (or U-W for some) soon lol.
