Ooh, good campfire story idea, about a ghostly killer that's completely invisible, EXCEPT whenever it's near, fires start to burn red with the blood of its past victims. So we know that as long as the color of the fire doesn't change from... wait... does that fire look like it's turning red or something? Is that just me? Is anyone else seeing that?

A boring orange flame starts from a pile of tinder set on the ground. All creatures in a 15-foot-radius sphere must make a Charisma saving throw. A target takes 2d4 fire damage and 3d8 psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The fire ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried. After the spell's duration is over, the flame dissipates.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1 die for each slot level above 2nd. The flame becomes a bright red.

Even in the fire hole when you throw one on top it's so bright it would light up a whole stretch of area around it, and it's basically a continuous flashbang for anybody who would be trying to attack your camp.

if you want to have all sorts of cool colors in your fire, get a copper tube and punch holes in it, then fill it with garden hose pack it as tight as you can. then when you have a good fire going, stick it in the middle. enjoy the colors.

You should make hobo fires. You take an empty tuna can cut a few strips of cardboard the hight of the tuna can and wrapup the cardboard so it fills the tuna can then fill it with wax. Its basically a super candle. I use them for cooking and lighting when I go camping and can't have an actual fire.

personally, i would soak something in copper nitrate for a nice green fire, maybe a smidge of potassium chloride for a purple undertone. Although its been long enough since ive done a flame test that i cant earnestly say that they wouldnt completely muddy together

Pro Tip: If you want true coloured fire, mix strontium chloride with 100% ethanol, or even better methanol. Methanol burns with a near invisible flame. So you'll get a bright red flame from the strontium. Also works with plain salt for bright amber or copper chloride for green.
The secret to your success: Satan tried getting his copies of Brian's Fire Safety book and Jason's Biker Werewolves book autographed. He's a big fan of your work!

6:10 the fire was being produced by the wood which was laying on top so it suppressed any of the strontium flame from going up, after it died down though it was only the strontium, you could have put powdered strontium onto the wood and it would have worked better at the beginning
Rogues out there, pay attention to the color of the fire from the charcoal left after the logs have burned down, and you can tell how hot your coals are. Last night I hit a brilliant Yellow, But I've seen scouts get coals so hot that the flames coming off them went blue-clear.
This would work as a good signal fire in emergencies. Brighter colors mean farther visibility for rescue units.
During the intro I'm going to guess that you just threw in a bunch of lithium into the fire to make it super red.

Fire starter colored flame things have been around for some time. They use to sell quick start fake logs that people would put in to start a fire that burned red and green for Christmas and home made fire starters of newspaper and candle wax mixed with things like copper sulfate made great fire starts with cool green flames in the 90's when at big BSA events troops would show each other how to make them.

I use little ketchup cups with wax and sawdust or dryer lint.... along with a tiny bit of shaved magnesium and some road flare dust. it starts up nicely and can start a fire even in rain and can last for at least 10 minutes
I use toilet paper rolls(cardboard roll that goes in the ♻️bin, not the full paper roll!!) and stuff it with the Dryers "mousse" (thing we throw in the garbage after few drying cycle.) 3 or 4 rolls starts a fire in no time.
