My Gripen comment got removed so I'm trying again. Finally some Gripen news today (May 29). Sweden's defense minister Pål Johnson: ”Aside from this* the government continues to work towards eventually at a later date contribute the Gripen system. But the signal that we have received from the countries that are included in the fighter jet coalition is that it is difficult to implement 2 fighter jet systems at the same time of the 4th generation by a country that is at war. It is amongst other things a matter of limitations when it comes to available pilots”.
And original in Swedish (from spoken interview): ”Vid sidan utav detta* så arbetar regeringen fortsatt vidare med att eventuellt vid ett senare läge också kunna bidra med Gripen-systemet. Men den signal som vi har fått utav dom länder som ingår i stridsflygsgruppen eller den koalitionen har pekat på att det är svårt att införa 2 stridsflygssystem samtidigt utav 4:e generationen för ett land som befinner sig i krig. Det handlar bland annat om begränsningar när det kommer till tillgängliga piloter.” *Referring to the 2 ASC 890's that will be donated.

@@nian60 I should have talked about this. It is an argument that a lot of specialized experts including Ukrainian very clearly state that planes are too difficult. The introduction of a new plane is a monumental effort and Ukraine must first do one and then the next.

It's more complicated. Biden is against Ukraine but wants to destroy ruzzia so he can focus more on China. The more Biden can destroy both ruzzia and Ukraine the better he thinks it benefits US interests. Banning Ukraine from attacking targets in ruzzia absolutely plays into his plan.

AFAIK, Finland has never limited Ukraine's use of weapons given by Finland. Now Sweden, UK and some others has (starting few weeks ago) and France seems to be following suite.
We finns just haven't been publicly vocal about it, but those articles discussing issue all say that Finnish aid has never had any limitations imposed by Finland on their use by Ukraine.
Regarding Russia, Finland knows best.

Concerning strikes inside russia: According to the russians (and noone else) Crimea "has been russia" since 2014, and the four S-E oblasts since autumn 2022. So according to russia (and noone else) Western donated weapons have been used against russian soil for a very, very long time. russia as the aggressor has no exclusive right to decide where the battlefield is, where the war is to be fought. There are no red lines that can be crossed. The West must lift all restrictions on where their donated weapons can be used. Trust in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Trust in Ukraine. 💙💛Slava Ukraini! The US has approximately 1,250 F-16's of which hundreds are in storage, gathering dust. They could easily match the total numbers donated by the other NATO countries.

Concur wholeheartedly that it was the lack of sustained artillery support 7-8 months that enabled the RF to counter attack towards Kharkiv. Fortunately UKR strategic defence has adapted and incurred even heavier RF losses. But its crucial to rotate the brave UKR troops at the frontline and that's a difficult one to resolve without supplementing boots on the ground.

These two ASC 890 are Swedens two most capable AEW&C aircrafts so giving them to Ukraine is pretty significant in more than one way. On the practical level it provides Ukraine with a powerful capability and on the political level it says we are fully behind Ukraine and that we're not going to rely on the US to do what is needed. We know we can trust Ukraine, UK, Netherlands, Czechia, Poland, our Nordic and Baltic brothers and a few others to have our back, together we will ensure Ukraine wins no matter what.
Sweden can build more. While in NATO, they have Finland covering their back like always and allied support. Sweden is not going to be invaded in a massive way at least.

As a Swede, living like smack in the middle of the Baltic Sea - I just have to say that the policy that Ukraine has to defend themselves against a numerical superior and absolutely barbaric foe:, With 'ONE HAND TIED BEHIND ITS' BACK'?
That shit needs to go. Of course - Ukraine must be able (and 'allowed' to strike back at whatever site that strikes them, no matter if that site is in Russia or not)! As a matter of fact - I cannot understand why this restriction wasn't lifted, at the very least several months ago, if not year(s?)!
And all this talk about 'escalation'? Russia is the one who 'escalates' things, all the time (attacking vital infrastructure to try to make certain cities/towns uninhabitable, blow up dams, introducing 'Shaheed drones' and now so-called Glide-bombs...not to mention the facts they intentionally have targeted civilians - right from the beginning....they don't 'restrict themselves' even to the 'rules of war' [which they themselves has signed, none-the-less]....so, escalation? Really?).
And, if you're someone who's still 'on the fence' regarding this Q - whatever your nationality? Just consider these facts will you, please:
All of us, that is EVERY other country around the Baltic Sea, and/or the Scandinavian peninsula (like Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany) - not only do we get along just fine (without any at the very least serious disputes), we have several different defense-alliances & - cooperation's. Hell, we even SHARE our intelligence with each-other. WHY? (How can that be?)...:
ALL of the information that ALL OF US gather is centered around Russian intelligence! Again, why? VERY simple....
WE ALL KNOW THAT RUSSIA IS (and has for hundreds of years always been) THE ENEMY, as in both the threat, and from where all the constant threats comes from!
Yes - it REALLY is that simple! Russia wants to, and have always wanted to expand into Europe....How far? Yet again - I'll tell you how far: As far as they can!
(So again....is this a question that you, living in Europe is willing to 'roll the dice' on? If so, you shouldn't!).

Moreover it might even have a descalatory effect for NATO because now russia can't say that Ukraine has some certain information only "because NATO relayed the information". This poor formulation was then as poorly translated into "Sweden will send Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft (ASC 890) to Ukraine", which actually only means that the type ASC 890 aircraft will be sent, but it could be one or many.
The live announcement however clearly stated that two ASC 890 will be given to Ukraine.

And knowing that the whole point of being a military reserve is that you are by all means are willing to be sent to the Frontlines to go and fight against whoever is fighting against your country whenever your country military needs additional manpower at the front lines, yeah Ukrainians are by all means are still willing to fight for their country if they are needed despite what has happened in recent months.
Radar radius of the ASC 890 is 500 kilometers and can easily be integrated with F-16.

Tak to Sweden i agree with my limited military knowledge i would think that the more info and radar etc you have the more precise your strikes can be and the better your strategic info will be as well.
I have no criticism of Macron, but he used the map example from the republican congressman who was asking the same question of Blinken using a map a few days ago. But it is a nice way to do it.
Sweden also wanted to send JAS Gripen but the other allies wanted us to wait a bit for some reason. There will be more CV90s in the future as well, they are ordered if I remembered correctly.

Swedens contribution of the Surveillance radar aircraft show that there is a bigger plan formed around the F16s. Great! Juast don't get over exited about all the infantry vehicles. The pbv302 is not to be compared with the CV90. Pbv302 is old and not equipped to engage and take out russian armoured vehicles. But it is fairly light and have good tracks so it won't get stuck in the mud easy. It can probably be very useful for moving and rotating troops and bringing supplies in and getting wounded off the battlefield. Maybe crafty Ukrainians can adapt it to serve for other purposes as well like mobile bases for drone operators. We will see. Anyway it is good to see more support for Ukraine.
When I listened to the press brief today I got the impression that the Pbv 302 is intended for wounded transport.
@@nian60 Yes that is one option. But it would make sense to also carry some troops, food, ammo and other gear to the front as well when they drive in that direction. It also have a 22mm weapon so it can fire a little support and suppress the meatwaves in a pinch.
Important that Ukraine is also alowed to strike within Belarus as Russia did attack from there before. ANdré
