What if what we call "breath" is the flux of the energy of original love? What if breath is the movement of original love? What if we trusted this? Can it allow us to come to directly know that by simply trusting or resting in the breath and returning to rest in this as need be that all the so called barriers or obstacles will be resolved or dissolved or melted back into the redeeming original energy of love that the breath is. Breath's other name is original love. Breath is the flux or movement of the energy of original love. One way is to sit and allow everything to settle into the space of the body (which we know at first as a separate form) and the space around the form of the body. In reality the two spaces are one undifferentiated space, it is only the movement of thought-form based on the development learning of the perception that implicitly says: "I am 'in here' and all else is 'out there'" that allows the one space to appear as two. This is simply our early impressions organized into a template of "self and other" that appears to us to be the whole of the way reality is. The template of "self and other" differentiates the one into apparently two aspects while we don't notice that the original one is still there. And the original one can serve as the potential informing source for the apparent two. There is the ordinary concept of the duality or twoness of the body and the breath. But what is the reality behind this concept? What if original love being infinite made the body for itself to further unfold itself. We can see that the bundle of joy is undifferentiated original love that we call the born human being. Also we can see that developmentally, first it identifies itself with the bodily form and says and believes "I am this body". And this sets up the mode of perception that sees and implicitly says "I am 'in here' in this separate body and my caregiver and everything else is 'out there' in those many separate bodies that make up the world because I don't find any of that 'in here' with me. We don't ordinarily consider and therefore don't have much chance of noticing that the original one love that is one is the same one original love that is the one that is the many. Like the Oneness of the moonlight being reflected in puddles of water and so the reflected light appearing as the many yet also remain as the One moon light. The embodied knowing substance whose other name is original love can know and it can identify. Another way to say that it can identify is to say that it can value something as important, even supremely valuable or supremely important. When the knowing substance or original consciousness only knows in part, it identifies with the part when in fact the part is not other than the whole. [For the scientifically minded person see the UA-cam video interviews of Federico Faggin, inventor of the microprocessor and the MOS silicon gate technology both of which underlie the modern world's entire information technology.] To explore this valuing or identification function of consciousness aka "the knowing 'substance'" consider: For example, if the consciousness aka the knowing "substance", didn't to some extent value or "love" the body; it would not bother to take care of the body. However the original love is infinite and that makes the reality of the body which is not in fact just a separate form to be the matrix of all original love. This is why Hakuin was able to say: "In the fathom long body is the whole of the teaching of the Buddha, i.e., it contains the teaching of: there is dukkha, the cause of dukkha, and the cessation of dukkha and the eightfold path. Rumi puts it simply as "The ground of your being (which we know as silence) welcomes your compost (dukkha) and grows beauty (harmony)." What if original love in manifestation is not possible without the hazard of dukkha. What does hazard look like from the point of view of love? Consider that where the rubber of the tires of a car meet the pavement, there is friction ; and without this friction the tires would only spin like on glare ice and the car could not move on down the road. Similarly is the case with dukkha when seen from the point of view of original love. The question one might wish to explore is: How is dukkha necessarily related to the manifestation of original love? Rumi said, "I have seen the two worlds (manifest and unmanifest; visible and invisible worlds, form and formless) are One." In Zen they say: "If everything returns to the One what does the One return to?" Rumi says, "Many things (appearances) will happen. Silence! Ask and allow Silence to inform you." We could say that original love and silence appear as two yet they can be experienced to be One-Whole that unfolds as apparently two aspects. So what allows the Buddha to smile on dukkha?
