@@Tuskbumper well, it technically still is trying to protect him. volition is purely about trying to keep harry sane, so it warns you at almost every turn that you are about to have a very bad time, and harry realizing his car is that car is a rough moment for him
@@Tuskbumper It's about Harry believing that he isn't that down bad yet. That there's a chance. So he's thinking... "No. This just didn't happen," in an attempt to believe he's better than this. That he didn't drunk drive his squad car into the sea.

It's astonishing, but also rather sweet, that the version of the detective we're seeing here is a relatively successful and well-adjusted one. That guy drenched in sweat, getting thrown around and menaced and having about a hundred different crises? That's him *doing well*.
People making parallels between Kim and Dora in DE fan art never fails to leave me in awe. Great job.

Dora lighting Kim's cigarette, the halo behind him... So much of this took my breath away but that hurt in a good way
Love the incorporation of Kim's Halo from his portrait.
He really IS a saint.
Some of these sequences are seriously just inspired. Like when he's spun around between all the different characters, or when Authority bursts out and sends him spinning down into the space all his voices live. You can tell they'd look absolutely amazing fully animated.
I can't get over how good it is honestly. I keep watching all these Disco Elysium vids and going in with low expectations, because how the fuck can some dude on youtube properly capture the things this game made me feel, then by the end I'm pointing at the screen like Leo DiCaprio saying "ohh this guy gets it" without a hint of irony. Feels like the perfect post-script to a perfect game, can't believe I put off playing it for two years.

This is what I'd expect from a Disco Elysium movie. This would be a scene that plays after he got shot, and he's thinking about everything that lead him to this point
Really does feel like Dora is passing on the torch of being the object of Harry's affection to Kim.

The finale of the game, after the shootout in the street outside the Whirling, Harrier wakes up (depending on the route you took) with Kim standing over him in his apartment with the light from the ceiling fan giving him an angelic look, as if he were wearing a halo

It literally made my day. The time when I decided to look and play DE and had this up in my feed was a pleasant surprise, even more so when I found out it was also made by the same person who made those DD animatics I feel blessed

Excellent work all around. I really love the whole sequence of the different characters picking up the lyrics of the song. With Cuno and Cunoess shoving Harry around like cocky villains in a musical stage-play, and the spin-around with Titus turning into a dance with Klaasje, and again into a reassuring gesture from Kim. So many great little character details and clever references to highlights from the story.
That sequence with the scab leader -> the mercenary with his gun and then like Authority bursting out of him has not left my mind in several days thank you
I want you to know that everyone, not just me, but everyone in my house has seen and loved this animatic so much that we replicate some of it whenever someone plays this song. Mouthing along, the little spins, whatever we can actually manage lmao. God this animatic is incredible, one of the best I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Holy fuck, man.
The transitions between frames are great! I love the shots with Dolores and Kim together (complete with the lung and halo imagery)

This is my favourite animatic of all time. Amazing artstyle and characterization of the characters. The song you chose is perfectly fitting for disco Elysium and my god the scene with the hanged harry, with volition comforting him is amazing. You've got some real talent there, keep up the good work

I keep watching this animatic over and over. Not only does the song fit, but the movement, the angles, the scene transitions are all so well done. My favorite part is the moment we realize this is all in his mind as Authority sends Harry sliding down into his subconscious.
I love how you captured the traits of every character both in their appearance, movements and expressions. Amazing work!
I really love this animation. I think you guys managed to perfectly connect the song and visual component. I'll be honest, I never played Disco Elysium, but I could just feel that dark, irredeemable, but in the same time inspiring and funny vibe of a person living exiting adventure in a grim, crazy world.
Mate, I can not recommend Disco Elysium enough. It's like an interactive novel written bij David Lynch where every failure is just as interesting as the successes, where every character is interesting in their own way, there's hours upon hours of fantastic dialogue all fully voice-acted and it all looks like a beautifully grimy painting. If you have any inclination toward psychedelic storytelling and off-kilter literature, it'll be one of the best gaming experiences you ever have.

It is amazingly interesting to explore this world and get to know all these people, seems like anyone not just who they seem and have at least few layers of personality. And... I can't shake off the feeling that something is wrong, especially after seeing dream section, like it is really delusional. And Klaasie, I eccidently made a restart just now and overheard her speech in the end of the failed seducing route: "It's gonna suck for you latter when you have to interrogate me", " And for the record: no, I didn't do it" - at the beginning, she tells us about the stat check we gonna need to make later and about her innocence... Does she... Openly spoils us the plot? Wth? So exciting!

Just yesterday while I played this game I thought to myself that Shayfer James had very disco elysium vibes and I made a mental note to check if something matched!! We had the same vision that's so crazy lmaoo - amazing animatic too, I'm replaying the scene with Kim and Dolores in my head on rotation
Oh, and can I just say that I love that you didn't just follow the plot scene by scene as many other montages do, but did your own interpretation (which also meant you didn't give too much of the plot away, if I watched this before playing I wouldn't feel it spoiled anything at all, I'd just wonder what it all meant).

And that scene with Dolores Dei and Kim, the way you use the moon toafch his portrait, really inspired. Loved this, can't wait to replay 50 more times

This is so incredible???? The transition with the skills and Authority had my jaw on the *floor*. I've been meaning to get back to work on my own video and this was so inspiring to see. The pops of colour on the skills! The glitchy movements before Authority pops out! The little bounces of movement on the characters to keep the scene full of motion!

WOW this fucking riiiiippppppped!!!! Wow really I can't speak more highly of this from an animation perspective. I am SO impressed!! That Kim and Harry design is like THE perfect stylization for them - it is ridiculously appealing. The climax of the video is truly fucking inspiring - the quality jump to the hyperreal really emphasizes the pain you KNOW is coming in a way that mimics the game itself - like whenever Harry smells something apricot, I was panicking and shaking my head no at the pain I knew, indeed, was coming. The shot of Kim and Dolores sharing a cigarette made me OUGH aloud. Love you.
Right? Harry looks perfectly vulnerable while still being charming and Kim still has that stoic vibe while letting some of his cold facade slip just enough that you can tell he and Harry are close

I loved the spin dance with Titus/Klaasje, and Kim, and how you incorporated Harry's different skills into this animation - Encyclopedia catching Harry with its book and then spitting him out was the part when I thought "wow, I love the creative thought that went into this"
Also, Harry looking up to see Dora lighting Kim's cigarette - I wonder what this alludes to? Her passing the burden of loving Harry and dealing with his unstable personality to Kim?

Wow... Good interpretation. And she have shining lungs, but Kim have halo. Becuse he have patience and compassion that she never have... She have only love (in DE lungs are symbol of love). But as Dolores Dei, she is long gone from Harrys life.
@@michatuodziecki2079 You're idolizing Kim, just as Harry did with Dora. My interpretation of this is that both Kim and Dolores Dei are together in his nightmare because they're both people that he sees as better than they really are. Dora with two golden lungs and Kim with a halo.

@@michatuodziecki2079 I don't think it's right to say that Dora didn't have compassion, or patience. You can literally call her in the middle of the night, while she's in bed with her lover, 6 years after you two broke apart. She doesn't get angry, she doesn't immediately hang up, instead, she indulges you. She waits until you go through whatever you're going through, until you say everything you want to say, until you're finally ready to hang up. That takes INCREDIBLE amounts of patience and compassion. There are many ways to handle someone you've moved on form, and Dora is taking the most careful, caring route.
@@michatuodziecki2079 they weren't right for each other, they fought often, they kept breaking up and getting together again, and it's implied that Dora left Harry because of his issues with substance abuse and his unstable mental condition. You could say it was a shitty move, but people like Harry can drag you down with you if you're not careful. Even people who have maintained a strictly professional relationship with him have been left scarred by him, like Jean and Judit. If Dora prioritized her own mental health and happiness over his, no one has the right to blame her for that.
Hopefully, post game Harry is going to grow into a much more healthy person than his past self was. And yeah, I hope he doesn't end up idolizing Kim as "the pillar" of his existence. Forcing Kim to take care of him lest he self-destructs. Harry has to find the strength to just... Love himself. And not attach that self-love to someone else

I rewatch this several few weeks bc I just can’t stop coming back to it. The song fits perfect, your style is creative and funny but also so heartfelt? The shot with Kim and Dolores Dei is so haunting and awesome I’m in awe.
I'm watching this on repeat for comfort. It's just so loaded up with emotion it feels cathartic.

this animation fits so well I honestly thought the song wasn't made for the game.
I don't even know where to start. This is nothing short of inspirational. I'm just going to start ranting.
First, oh my gosh I love how you draw Harry especially- it's such a great stylization that really captures his goofiness, and I love how expressive you make him. Also Tidus looks sick (and ofc Kim is also amazing). Along that same vein, I'm really impressed with how recognizable you made Kortenaer (which I just found out is spelled like that instead of "Korneater").
Second, I really love that verse with the deserter (there's an eagle in the attic with a semi-automatic), it fits really well, and that moment with Jean too.
And then at 1:23 that rotation is so awesome and the moment with everyone interacting with Harry is so animated and lively and expressive and aaaaaaah! The spin with Klaasje, Kim being firm and supportive?!?!?!? It's perfect.
And then of course Kortenaer going off, again fits so well with the audio and bringing out this side of Harry being fearful and uncertain?
And then??? Hoooooooly shit just when I thought it couldn't get any better, you break out the dreamscape reality-bending trip inside Harry's brain! It's done pure justice to just the concept and overall vibe of Disco Elysium. That sort of thing is the key- no, the DISCO-- in all of this.
Anyways, I'm so glad you made this so I could squeal about it and also it helped motivate me to get off my butt and plan my own DE animation I've been wanting to do for a year.

The way I've just had this animatic on repeat through out the whole of finals week really says something about me. It's just such a good motivator, but also with the added context of Disco Elysium the melancholy of it is amplified.
