I've never seen a garden center with so many evergreen options. I'm jealous
Funny story. A tree nursery had a customer that had no luck with planting a tree in front lawn, of a new sub-division on edge of town. Three unsuccessful attempts. Finally the neighbor across the street came over & said, “You’re never going to get a tree to grow there”. Oh, why is that? “Because when this was a cow pasture, that’s where the salt block was!”
😂 reminds me of an old guy who used to come to my restaurant I worked at and would tell the story of how many cows used to poop there lol 🤣😂😂😂 because that land was old cow pasture 20 years ago.
@@realamerican4434Manure & Salt react VERY differently for plants tho! 🤔
Your mom gets the best plants. I wish I had a nursery that nice near me. Kudos to your parents. ❤️
A coffee and 30 min of Garden Answer 👏😍 Happy weekend everybody 💐
Laura inspires me so much. She is truly living the dream. She is hard working and adorable. I know her property and job allow for SO much more than I am able to do in my own spaces, but the passion comes through and pushes me to enjoy what I CAN do and create on my little suburban lot. Thanks!
Laura not wanting to mess up "swoop" 😂 I worked in nursery for 30 years. Retired now but still fix displays if I shop.
Me, too! I’m compelled to keep things looking ‘nice’!
Russell is the quality control inspector. Everything must first go through his approval process.
Good point! 😉 I was just telling my husband about how fun Russel is to watch.
He wants to be wherever Laura is. 💕
Great story bro
@@cynthiaann4465 my savannah always wants to be right by my side….supervisor…lol
Good morning, Laura ☕️ I’m with you, Aaron should swap out those last two arbs and you can plant the littles elsewhere. Andrew’s is filling up! Hurry up, Spring! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
I think he was too tired and had second thoughts that they didn’t look so bad after all.😂
@@dustyflats3832 that's what I was thinking too. lol poor Aaron was struggling with that last one a little bit. I'm sure he will swap those last two out once he rests n is ready to tackle that project again 😊 planting in hard pan is hard work
That was Laura's idea at 27:32
Agree !!!
The arbs are likely struggling because Aaron keeps planting them in a hard pan tube. The holes need to be at least 2-3 times wider than the root ball, so the roots have somewhere to go. The auger “polishes” the sides of the hole, which only makes it harder for the roots to penetrate.
I was thinking the same. The sides need to be ruffed up and they should be watered in right away.
Yup, hard clay here and we dig $500 holes for a $5 plant. 😂
you make a great point. the piedmont area of NC is mostly clay. When you dig a hole for a plant there lots of pine fines, etc. are needed in order to avoid digging a clay "pot" that holds water and drowns the roots. Also, planting the crown a bit higher helps.
@@soccermom1245 yes 100%. The right kind of hole makes all the difference. Aaron needs to score the sides of the hole before putting the tree in it.
I agree, the holes should be much wider
Always nice to know that Laura’s just like the rest of us, “I should probably have one of those somewhere,” “this one’s cute, I have to have at least one,” “oh wait, is there enough room in the truck?” 😂😂😂😂
I love how Laura always has to give the plants a "little pat on the head". LOL
Oh my goodness you are right!!! How cute!
Lol
She’s awesome 🤩 ❤
Hehe 😊
Good little plant!
🌲
I heard myself - "Look at these! Aren't they cute?" My daughters always say that I sound like I'm at a pet store when I go plant shopping! I really can't wait to go plant shopping! Western Washington crazy weather! Thank you for a fun video!
I talk to my indoor plants all year long and my veggie and flower garden Spring, Summer and Fall! It seems to me they really respond to positive comments!😂😂😂❤❤❤
Laura, I just love your tenacity! You just get in there and get it done. Thank you for inspiring myself and many others to get in there and give it a go! Blessings!
Oh my, Laura! How in the world can you remember all the plant sizes? I bow to the master.💪👏💚
She reads the labels
My favorite videos are the ones where Laura visits her parents' Garden Centre. I can only imagine the convenience of having year round access to such a beautiful garden center. I'm a little jealous.
I’m a LOT jealous 😍🤩 🪴!!!
Aaron's reaction when he gets trees is just phenomenal! Loved it when he found the pallate of 4 😊 such cute little ground covers, I thought you would have gotten at least w of each, Laura 😬 fingers crossed for the new arbovitaes ... that they take 💯
I enjoyed hearing the mourning dove in the background when you were unloading the treasures.
It sounded like a hoot owl to me. LOL😅
Laura, you have such a creative, descriptive, meaningful association way to describe things. When you said that cypress had an “under the sea” look to it, I said YEAH, that’s exactly what it looks like. Oh my, how I wish I had you closer to me. I have a vision for my 8b, Foley, AL “blank canvas” backyard garden in my head, I just can’t make it happen. I think I might have to put it on paper to make it come to life. You, Aaron and your family bring such joy to your viewers; thank you for what you do.
Good luck with creating your backyard area , I'm sure it will be beautiful !!
Hello Foley, AL! I'm in Gulf Shores, AL. Have you visited family owned Abbotts Greenhouse off County Road 20? They may be able to help you as you plan your local garden. We have a beautiful long growing season and lots of choices. Hope they can inspire you!
@@jeanrollings1390 YES, I live down Hickory. I visit Abbot’s a lot. Tonya, Steve & Billy know me well. I’ve purchased a few shrubs, perennials & annuals from them for my front and side gardens. I tore out the “new construction” front garden; the shrubs they use were ridiculous! I’m waiting for Tonya to bring out the Pineapple Guava and Eucalyptus. I joined the Gulf Coast Garden Club. We are going to greenhouses in, I believe Robertsdale & Loxley for our next meeting April 1st. It’s been a joy gardening in Foley. I just don’t have a great design skill when it comes to hard scapes an garden bed layout. I’m having an arbor built next week. Thank you for reaching out.
@@robintranchina6588 Be careful with Eucalyptus. They are like Black Walnut and cause other greenery to die. They also hog all the water.
Good luck on the new Arbs! In my area we sometimes get a caliche layer so thick the tree roots can’t bust through it. I read an extension article about the difference in performance if you pickaxe a hole through that layer. They also said extension may have maps indicating the depth of the caliche layer, because we are also heavily agricultural (so they know where it is). I know this Arb will make it! (But just in case)
Thanks for a great informative. This video helps me calming down. My father is at the hospital and has a bad pneumonia. He’s stable and improving. Pray for my father, Joe.
🙏🙏praying that he gets better
🙏🙏🙏
May He be healed in the Name of Jesus Christ
May God bless Joe with recovery.
Thanks for your prayers. Unfortunately, my father passed away last Monday. Thanks everyone. ♥️♥️
Looking good! Thank you for showing all the various plants and always appreciate all the extra information /tidbits so I can make better judgments on what to add to my own garden😊
I love seeing how beautiful you’all are transforming your property .
Great video, love to see you & Aaron (the tree man) shopping together for plants! You both complement each other so well and adds another layer to your videos.
Russell checking out the new inventory. Love that cat.
Russell sneaking behind you at 24:45. Love it!!
Love to hear Aaron sounding like a gardener!💖
We would love a garden center tour with prices called out!!
You make the simplest things interesting! Fun video again! Thanks
Good morning!
I agree!
Good morning all!
Keep an eye out for a Bird’s Nest spruce, Laura! It’s a favorite in my garden (zone 6a, Massachusetts) I think mine is a dwarf version…~ 2 ft tall x 4-5 wide after ~ 20 years. I love the natural depression in the middle & the soft texture.
I’m looking for a spot to put in a Hinoki Cypress too. That color & texture…swoon
Oh I got one of these last year. I love it!
Good morning! What a great garden center. Wishing I had one close by that offers what your parent’s center does. The variety of plants is amazing.
Dang my back hurt just watching you😮 you’re amazing , thanks for taking us along, Laura in beast mode while I’m in my tub soaking with a strong cup of coffee anticipating cleaning my greenhouse 😫❤️
Lol. Emphasis on anticipating. Let us know when you get to it😅
I agree that the hole needs to be wider and water them in! Even in MI we water arbs often
Dang, Laura! Bet you've got some impressive biceps, too! That's was a real workout lugging and lifting all those plants! 🦸♀️
You should get hubby to lift the big pots
What fun, shopping for garden plants. Picking up the fruit trees you chose. Too many beautiful evergreens to decide on. Look foward to seeing where they go. 🌳🪴🌲🍊👏🤙😍
I remember you had that water issue with one of those Arbs.. like the hole was flooded when you pulled the tree out last year. I think it’s awesome that you guys could use them somewhere else, like a small clump of 3 somewhere out there. You should let us know if Aaron planted the last two! Great episode! Gosh, I wish I had a garden center in my town!! It’s raining here in Michigan today! Have a great day everybody!! 😊♥️
We have a garden center, but the purchases would put you in the poor house. Raining and Cold 🥶 in WI. Couple more days and finally warmer.
I love that Montana juniper!! My family is originally from Montana. UA-cam put this video first today because ive been going back in time and watching all your old videos, after i watch the new one for the day. I loved the video explaining your garden spaces. You guys have done so much!! Congratulations and I love your content and your family involvement, family is everything ❤️
I think Aaron should dig the hole wider. I thought you’re supposed to dig the hole 2x the size of the root ball. I would think it would help with the hard pan. Idk. Love you guys!
Love it Laura: "there's no ice or frozen soil? well, then lets start planting" Hey GA Family- it's a go!!!
Although I live in an apartment I never tire of going to the Garden Center where landscape dreams come true ... 💖 this stuff.
I have no true planting space for these sort of plants but it's sure fun to watch you both shop and plant in your gorgeous gardens. Was excited to have you point out the bowling ball as I do have one of those that's at least 10 years old.🌺☘️🌺🌷
Morning everyone
I love seeing more of Aaron, his work is well done
Pretty plants. Laura, a bit of advice from an older woman. You've had two children and I know you wouldn't want anything to keep you from gardening. You REALLY need to stop lifting things that are heavy. Not only can a hernia take you out of a gardening season, but look up prolapse. It's a condition that no one talks about and affects so many women. You have help to move and load heavier things. Take it from someone who knows.
WOW! The energy and strength you have Laura is incredible! To save your back a little next time back the truck up to the greenhouse, I cannot have you hurt yourself ❤❤❤❤
I've always had best results with arborvitae plantings following three easy steps in my zone 3 to 4 gardening.
Dig wide to allow plenty of extra space for the root ball....give it room to establish itself. Fill the hole with water and let it drain before placing the tree. Toss in organic matter with with the garden soil when refilling the whole.
For first 2 to 3 months water regularly. Cedars are thirsty plants and do best with the extra attention to moisture levels while establishing theirroot system. Hope this helps....you have guided me so many times with your videos.....feels good to return the favor.
💚💜 Rain drizzle this morning here in ohio as well. I love how Aaron has such love for 🌲 🌲 🌲 😊my opinion they make the garden, it gives life in every way. It houses wildlife and you need wildlife to have that secret fairy tale garden!!
Aaron - Love your trust that these newly planted trees won't need to be watered by you for a month or so. I'm thrifty too regarding the cost of plant replacements but I would suggest you might want to water them now so you won't be wondering why the Spring planted arbs didn't take either. The hole looked pretty dry so that will give you an idea of how little rain water seeps down there. Enjoy seeing you in the garden with Laura!
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day 🥰
You too🎉
What a fun video. It's great to have a longer video. I love how excited you get when in the Garden Center with all the plants, running up to them when something catches your eye. Do you leave the tags on the plants,/trees keep a log, a box of tags on a shelf? I like to leave the tags but they usually end up disappearing and I don't have a clue what the plant is. Have a terrific day.
I love it when you go shopping for trees and plants! Love to see what's out there!
When you augar your hole make it way bigger and incorporate the soil around it. When it rains or is watered the water sits in the soil that's hardpan and don't drain away. Lossening the soil way out keeps the soil from pooling thus rooting the roots. Not sure but it has worked for me with our soil.
Perhaps a hole twice as big with the addition of a bag of potting soil or compost. Also watering it in immediately unless you knew it was going to rain that day. Your parents garden center is amazing and wish I could go there.❤
Aaron said he didn't water it in because rain was expected and the ground was wet.
What a fun video! I felt like I was there.....and seeing Aaron plant the "replacement & his wisdom" was wonderful!🌲🌲🌲🌲 Laura, I am so impressed with your selection of "miniatures" --- will you ever consider planting a "miniature" plant garden for our desire of seeing you design a mini garden for us?
Yippie! Field trip day to Andrews! I saw many things I would have bought! I also would pop those smaller arbs out and put in the ones that have more growth on them. 😊
Those new Arbs look great! I'm with you Laura, dig out the other 2 and plant them somewhere else.
I'm surprised you only came out with those few plants, it would be so hard to resist, lol.
I think this is a good example of why mixed borders are better for the average gardener. You have greater resources than a lot of people so it might not be an issue for you. But I see people around here in GA plant walls of arbs and most of the time in a few years you’ll see some of them dead or dying. So you have to replace them and either wait for them to catch up or spend even more money for larger trees. I do agree with others about a larger hole and rough sides since there’s so much hard pan.
Funny Aaron said something about the colored arb. I have sunkist arborvitae and my neighbor lady came over one day and we were discussing my plantings and she pointed tonthr arb and said don't worry, it should come back nice. I said that's how they're supposed to look, like the sun is hitting their tips. She looked at me like I was crazy. I like them. Up against North pole arbs, they really stand out.
I would love to know how you and Aaron met. You both have such a true love of plants and designing. Your relationship seems so sweet; you are a joy to watch.
I Lov the beautiful garden center, and Great selection U hv options how lovely!! Kitty's are also Adorable Cuties!! > was surprised Aaron didn't cut into r[out ball help open them up a bit?? Great too see Ur day's progress, Awesome!!
Every time I watch one of these plant shopping videos, I think "I need one of those" and then have an interesting time trying to figure out where to put it in my garden lol
Good 🌄 morning from Maryland.
Those evergreens are so pretty! And I am loving the tiny pine and spruce!! Have to go find some of those! 🌿🤗 Cuuuuute!!
Laura I just love your parents garden center!! if i was able, i’d so love to come by meet your parents and go shopping there!!! ❤. i live in Mississippi on the gulf coast , that would be one heck of a hall!!! if i had the finances i’d do it in a heartbeat. but,, never say never!!! i just love your channel and look forward to Sunday mornings for coffee and Garden Answer!! ❤🪴🌱🌼🌻🌹🌸🪷
Great day to go plant shopping, thank y'all for taking us along
Top o' the mornin' to ya, ☘️ Happy St Patrick's day one and all☘️ all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪
Laura on the two shorter arbs replace with the two taller one's and maybe use the shorter ones in your new brick patio you mentioned a pencil forms just an idea you can manage height etc
I absolutely love watching your videos and seeing new plants! It always makes me want to run out and flower shop. Thanks for the videos! 😊
I would also do a soil testing on that spot. There maybe something in the soil on that spot. I agree with the rest to make the hole larger and rougher
Thanks for the video today! Always enjoy a trip to the garden center, even on a rainy day! All the tree choices are perfect!
I love the stash of plants behind the greenhouse 🤣👍🏼
I love your parents Garden Center it is so cute and inviting, I always enjoy the tour videos. I live in Edmonton Alberta zone 3 so its still too early to buy outside plants. Thank you for sharing.🌷🌲🌹
I love the plants and trees at your mom's garden center really pretty. The Dwarf every greens are so nice.
I'd pop out the small ones and plant them somewhere else and put in the big ones. The garden centre I work for is getting their first truck load of plants the end of this month and I have been called back to work to help with it (oh my aching body!!).
So much variety to choose from! You are very fortunate 😊
The variety available at Andrews is always amazing to me. Hope Aaron takes the two arbs out and plants them in the other landscape.
I was really struck by the graceful beauty and color of your weeping willow in the shots where you’re unloading trees in the driveway. My eye was just drawn to that tree in the background. I love the different seasons and spring is upon us! Yay!!
Fun day following you at the garden center. Great information on the trees you bought and arbs look great Aaron.
What a breath of fresh air this video is for me. I garden in zone 5b and our weather looks precisely like yours today. I am thinking of pulling out some Dwarf Albertas that were planted in too sunny of a spot so shopping with you evergreen shopping was very inspiring. But what I truly loved was seeing you in your tennis shoes, jeans and winter coat (my colorado uniform of choice) and you pulling out those huge pots! Prior to watching your video, I got seduced into watching container planting by someone in Atlanta...sunny, beautiful annuals, something I can't imagine at least for several months. It felt like coming home to see you and Aaron, thank you for this.
Very enjoyable to watch! Thanks for sharing. Due to the cold icy wind here in southern Wisconsin my gardening is limited to the indoors. However it is exciting to have all the green seedlings under the grow lights!
Thank you for sharing the names of all the trees! I live in Maine and have a short growing season (lots of snow still) so shrubs/trees with yellow on them make me happy! The beautiful color pokes out of the snow and is just lovely. I am going to look for the frosted juniper you showed along with a couple more! Thank you guys, have a great day.
Well, how fun! I have finally been there and can now picture what you 2 are walking through. Happy day😃
Love when you go shopping for more plants or trees.
Hi Laura and Aaron! What a fun day shopping for evergreens and Aaron planting the arbs. Thank you so much for sharing!
I am looking for small evergreens too, for a new bed, mainly for winter interest, and I am just shocked at the choices you showed us. Such variety, I never knew existed. Boy, is your parents’ garden center a treasure trove. Lucky you and those who can shop there.
Good Morning! 💦 A rainy cold day is a good day to shop, especially for plants & garden related things!! I love the tour of all those beautiful trees! You have given me ideas because we are looking at replacing trees on our property!! 😃💦🛍🌲💚
Love plant shopping for the landscape with you❤
FedEx truck at 18:33. Being a FedEx delivery driver myself. How fun would it be to be coming there on a daily basis!
I love Garden Center shopping with Aaron!
Well, yeah let’s just get it, just get all of them!
Good morning Laura Aaron great day for shopping on the cold rainy day
Going with sister to a nearby town today to have lunch with ourAunt and to visit with sister’s niece who was recently diagnosed with cancer. But first…..my daily dose of Laura to start my day.
Plant the other two arbs. You got plenty of space for the stunted ones! Also, what are the chances you will find perfect matches again later on!!!
Entertaining video! I love Laura's enthusiasm for the beauty of each variety of arb.
Love love love the little evergreens you got!💚💚💚
Thank you taking me along on your shopping trip. I love being apart of your visions without costing me any money. ❤️
I am so impressed with the variety and quality of what is carried at Andrews they always whether off the truck or the previous year's plants so healthy and gorgeous. Always enjoy so much when you take us all down there for a nursery adventure. Makes me really consider taking the 5 1/2-to-6-hour drive south. Such a great job!!!
I love it when Aaron goes with you shopping for trees/plants he made the right choices on the trees and I agree with you and replace the other 2 trees to make it all look even. Can’t wait to see where you will put the shrubs you bought today.
Laura, you may have already answered my question... I was wondering if you could replant the arbs you took out somewhere different on your property. They all look pretty good still.... well, at least through my phone screen😉
What a fun day even though was raining!🤗❤️🤗
I love the idea of a little corner (or not so little) packed full of specimen evergreens! Thanks for taking us along!
The evergreens , so beautiful. Great job Aron.😍👏😍
