Hey, how did Steve get over there? Excellent build, I liked the fact that you put the extra time and effort into making this a decorative part of your home as well as a functional dog house. Nice work Jay.
Of the many things I love about this video, the thing I think I love the most is the brief highlight of the time spent staring at the project in process. I spend a lot of time doing exactly that. A lot of times when things don't come out right or need really obvious improvements, I'll realize that I got in my own way by not allowing myself the time and space to stare at it. I've often wondered how common this was, but for some reason haven't asked, "did you stare at it?" LOL The highlight of this aspect of your own process made me feel a little less weird about it. Speaking of weird, I'll never understand how I've not found your channel before now...just grateful it was here to be found. Thanks.
I don't know what I like more. Your great projects or your mad editing skills. Not to mention you must have the patience of a saint to cut all the shingles.
Fantastic. Not just the dog house itself, but the editing as well. I always enjoy watching your videos and as someone new to woodworking, I learn something new in every video. Keep up the great work and thank you.
Great videobomb there at the end by Steve Ramsay! If that was greenscreened, I'm impressed. Otherwise, I'm still impressed, knowing how far apart you live. And once again, that is a STELLAR editing job. The oscar for sound editing goes to Jay. I have to know, is that a different nail gun sound each time -- ie: is that the real nail gun sound from that particular video snippet, or did you grab one nail gun sound and use that one all the time. I'm still a bit new to the editing game so I'm not even sure which way would be easier... and which would sound better with the music. Gorgeous dog house. Aside from the very end I think the best bit was watching you worm your way into it. My dad (carpenter) used to build dog houses as a small side business, and he eventually moved the door to the side. The central door looks good to people, but an off-side door gives a dog more protected space to curl up. Less an issue in your climate than up here in Canada!!! great job, Jay.
wordsnwood Thanks for the kind words. I use the original audio from the camera. Syncing it to the beat is more about looking at the audio peaks than looking at the actual video.
This has got to be one of my favourite videos now. The whole project from start to finish was excellent and with a very unexpected ending from Mr MEMO himself! Regards Barry.
Excellent video, with several of the Bates signature features such as constructing in time with the music, and watching paint dry while snacking. M. Night Shyamalan is envious.
Nice work. But if the roof could be removable for cleaning and giving the inside a thorough sunbath during the summer once in a while, that would be super.
Jay Bates is the Tarantino of woodworking videos. I LOVE the guest star cameo at the very end. If you're one of those people who stop watching when Jay starts talking about social media - SUCKS TO BE YOU! You'll have to watch it again to see the "special guest star". Hint: It's not the dog.
Not only are your woodworking talents expanding, but your music editing and syncopation shows me you not only have an artists eyes, but ears as well. This one cracked me up! And that was cool having Steve do a cameo.
Great video! Love how well the nail gun went along with the music. That dog house looks amazing! Beautiful work! Also, I got a total kick out of seeing Steve Ramsey at the end!
I normally don't like videos like this but u made it oddly satisfying I love that the stapling matched the beat and I was over here staring at my screen and nodding my head back and forth getting lit
Probably my favorite video from you so far!!! Love this build. Love the editing. Great work!!!!!! My dogs could use some cool houses like this, they have igloos but they are about worn out.
That turned out amazing. I love your editing, with the matching sounds to the music. And the cameo at the end was exactly what I was thinking throughout the video.
Jajaja, You´re as good woodworker as video maker!!! Fantastic music edition. Thank you for beeing one of my woodworking teachers. Saludos from Argentina!!
Love your channel watch all the time. You definitely inspire me to work harder and come up with new projects. Without your channel I would have never learned how to use schetup. Plus I love how the nailing goes with the beat.
Hi Jay, Recent subscriber, fellow woodworker.love your shop. Single car garage shop for me.love the videos you do, very professional, a welcome relief on your video style, loved the watching the paint dry on the dog house project.Blessings to you and Yours, Steve and June in Beaumont, Cally
Great vid Jay. Been watching from beginning and really enjoy your videos- especially the editing. I graduated from a recording arts school years ago and was taught editing by video and film professionals. I have to say your editing is excellent. Not that your craftsmanship isn't outstanding, but your demeanor, humor, and the editing truly make your vids enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work. Troy
This is by far one of the best build videos I have seen. Watching you shoot those nails in the first succession I was thinking What if on of those nails were to be shot by a different YT woodworker and edited in quick succession to the rest. You can imagine my surprise at the end seeing Steve. I say it again, very good video, keep them coming.
Man, that's very impressive, thanks for sharing. I think it's time to make a new house for Simon, my dog. Steve Ramsey's cameo at the end was fantastic. Always great content. Greeting from North Mexico. -Oz

I cant get over how humble and calm you are, if you didn't live so far away you'd probably make a great friend! :) Great build!
That was awesome. I wondered what you were going to do for the roof, beautiful!
Thanks Frank! I appreciate it!!
If Frank thinks it was awesome, who am I to comment. I like it. Just curious, do dogs really like using a dog house? Do yours?

I don't know what I like more. Your great projects or your mad editing skills. Not to mention you must have the patience of a saint to cut all the shingles.
That "I wish this paint would hurry up and dry" break at 1:54 made me laugh so hard.
Excellent film making, superb videography and editing. Oh and nice job on the doghouse too.
JPVegh Thanks :)
Jay Bates I love it awesome color fantastic look and wood is perfect shapes
I love your vids, but watching paint dry and "good stuff" are by far the best parts!!! Nice work Jay!
Fantastic. Not just the dog house itself, but the editing as well. I always enjoy watching your videos and as someone new to woodworking, I learn something new in every video. Keep up the great work and thank you.
EXCELLENT JOB Jay...Your Dogs are so Happy with their new house..!..Congratulations & thanks for share it.

And this is why you always watch the whole video. Excellent syncing on your part. I even had my head moving while watching the video. Great job!
This is one of my favourite videos on UA-cam! I have watched it so many times. The build, the music, the editing. Great stuff!
Great videobomb there at the end by Steve Ramsay! If that was greenscreened, I'm impressed. Otherwise, I'm still impressed, knowing how far apart you live.

Jay Bates
That is a very nice tip. Thanks...
Jay Bates unfortunately iMovie doesn't seem to offer me that option...
"Dog house", I'd live in that ! Nice work !
Hands down the best video of your, music, timing project it has it all. Awesome job and build.
This has got to be one of my favourite videos now. The whole project from start to finish was excellent and with a very unexpected ending from Mr MEMO himself! Regards Barry.
i find it funny that steve ramsey at the end asks how big your dog is. that made my day
Awesome work I am enjoying your videos.
I built a dog house myself for our two boxers. Could not get it out of the yard when we moved.
I had forgotten just how good Jay is at making this kind of video. Never gets old.
This is one of my favorite videos you have made, not particularly for the dog house but the videography, editing, and music.
Excellent video, with several of the Bates signature features such as constructing in time with the music, and watching paint dry while snacking. M. Night Shyamalan is envious.
Tom Nally hahahaha! Thanks Tom. I appreciate it.
is that what he was doing? I just thought he was deep in thought. ha!
My principal talent is watching paint dry while snacking. I can do that for HOURS!!
Nice work. But if the roof could be removable for cleaning and giving the inside a thorough sunbath during the summer once in a while, that would be super.
Agreed! or like a back door that opens the entire back wall
by far the most fun I had watching a woodworking video. The music does it!
That is an awesome doghouse! Bigger than my first apartment. Beautiful work as usual!
Dog is really lucky.for that dog went for this house.thanks you buddy for share this video
Fantastic Jay. It holds a man! Must have been many, many hours of work for the house and video.

Wonderfully done project and video! How big is your dog?
Nick Ferry I've only got full bun length dogs on hand. I believe they are about 7 inches.
hot dog.....dawg
I love how he took the extra time to edit the video to where the nailgun met the music's beat hahaha
Looks great! Couldn’t help tapping my feet along to the rhythm of the music and the building.
Love the music and the last second with Steve. 2 of my favorite UA-camrs in one video!
Must be warm country. Here in Minnesota we would have to make it double wall with insulation.
Mississippi.
One question Jay, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy cedar shake shingles than to make your own?
Allen Perry Not locally. No time to order any. It might be for you though. Thanks for watching Allen.

Frank Fitzpatrick build time was 25 hours.

Scrap wood City Thank you! I appreciate it!
A very satisfying video, Jay - both the making and the editing. And that Steve Ramsey guest appearance!!!
Awesome looking dog house. You may want to make a large removal panel or doorway in the back. Access for cleaning bedding ect.
I love it, especially the roof! Your dogs are lucky to have you.
Love your channel watch all the time. You definitely inspire me to work harder and come up with new projects. Without your channel I would have never learned how to use schetup. Plus I love how the nailing goes with the beat.
Dude you ROCKED this build! My favorite video from you to date! Great job!

I can appreciate how you synced the nail gun to the music, nice touch.
Another great build, and entertaining video, Jay! The color contrast of the paint and shingles is quite pleasing.
