Nice collection of period clothing, Sarge. My grandfather was at one time President of the NMLRA. When I was young, I would go with him to rendezvous. We would stay in his teepee & wear our period buckskin clothing. This video brought back good memories for me. Thank you for sharing.
that style white trouser is how the current US Navy enlisted dress blues is constructed. Tied back adjustment, But many more buttons in the front. The Uniform pant is made out of wool
Heck yeah , I love a tricorn hat with a revolutionary soldiers out fit. Especially when hiking a football. This was a lot of fun as well. Just a thought. Have you ever thought of taking up metal detecting? Out there you could probably find a treasure trove of actual pewter buttons and shoe buckles. It seems like a ton of fun if your into that sort of digging history theme. There are some cool people out there in New Hampshire that find all sorts of Colonial sites and have made a brilliant Museum . I have no idea how far you are from Rindge New Hampshire , but it might be fun for you and your fantastic family to venture to check out the Town hall Museum.
Good video. The shirts you are wearing are they breathable are the y cool in the warmer months? The loin cloth you showed I never realized that that was how it was worn, definitely a chaffing setup if not careful. That for the history lesson.
Thanks my friend! The shirts are breathable for sure. When layered properly like anything else, they are good in the colder weather too. I haven't got to try them in the warm weather yet....so time will tell. Take care buddy
great collection sarg and marie explains a lot we wont mention the breechcloth lol I can bet they are comfortable I d tried one once the nieghbors still wont talk to me lol true story they thin im nuts but great tutorial
Very Cool man.... I'm reading a novel set in 1810 right now by Dougles C. Jones The savage race... It's good ... I like the way you made your custom breech cloth .... good info .... love the outfits... Hope all is well on the homestead...greeting from nc tim
Very nice old clothing, Derek. I really like such old and historical stuff. It looks good on you. The larger hat would have been a better shelter. ;-) Great video brother. Atb. Tito
Before you cut part of the brim off your hat you could have used that hat as a roof for a small shed; it was HUGE! I would think that a wool breechcloth would be even WORSE between your legs than some leather. If I were you, I'd be looking for one made from Marino wool and another from soft buckskin! Thank you for this video! I never knew what people wore during the 17th Century.
I never cared much for the waistcoat or the breech cloth. I wore the leggings though warm in winter with heavy wool. I have leather pairs for brush walking. I optioned with canvas breeches and wool. Most I have to make because being a big man no one carries my size. I need a new hat my old one took a dive on a canoe trip so I tie a handkerchief over my head. You are quite the squire Sarge. Ah! Squire Faria!
I agree with your philosophy of customization. I don't like it when someone says customization is not period. How do you know? You think people where stupid back then and didn't say cut a breach clout (cloth) to fit? Sure they did! If you don't know what he is talking about, you cut an hourglass shape to better fit your groin.
Its funny the shoes cinda look like there on the rong feet from the camera angle .Like when the kid comes in the room and tells ya he dressed himself . love the vids .
LOL....I hear ya man. I went back and forth on that while putting the buckles on for hours!!! Didn't matter how I did it.....they looked that way regardless
looking at them button makes me think when I tried civil war reenacting had to change out 54 wood buttons for bone ones by hand not correct boy that was frustrating nothing was ever right.
I find these videos a little funny just because I believe I remember an old video of yours where you mention hating history haha. Still love this series, traditional is the way to go.
I find history gets a lot more interesting when school is done and over. Can pick to learn about things like the frontier and other interesting times in history and stop learning who signed what when

Nice to see the outfits with the history lesson in there. Good vid Sarge and Mrs. Faria!
Thanks bud
I asked in your other video, but the question is better suited here. Does the country cap (bonnet) have a purpous or is it just for style?
Keep the sun off the head in the summer, fashion, as well as the conservative aspect I mentioned here
Nice video. Is it usually a big investment to get into acquiring the different period pieces? -Nate
It can certainly get quite expensive Nate, that's for sure. The more you know how to make yourself the better of course
Something I definitely want to try down the line. Thank you!
This Colonial Gentlemens Clothing is the Bomb!! nicely done Sir Derek !. Cheers ;-))

LOL....yes it was huge. Good points on the wool breech clout....I think you may be right there
So like an hour glass would be a good general shape for loin clothes?
you could say that
I didn't expect to be learning on a Sunday morning. But I am. Interesting Sarge.
thanks bro

You are spot on brother. I did hate history.....unless you can relate it to something I enjoy I guess ; )
I find history gets a lot more interesting when school is done and over. Can pick to learn about things like the frontier and other interesting times in history and stop learning who signed what when
