- In this episode, we make a brass solder scraper. This tool prevents scarring when cleaning and dressing solder joints. A fun and easy confidence build if you are new to making tools. Lathe not needed but it sure makes it fun.

Thanks for watching.
I'd watch you sweep the floor. Film anything you choose! It's all fascinating
Love that little tool. It's "eye sweet & hand friendly" - the hallmarks of a good hand tool!
love the different formats you’re doing this year 👍
I only watch the long-format videos. Don’t have short enough an attention span to watch any UA-cam shorts. But don’t let that stop you from making that content, I’m sure lots of people like short videos. But I come to your channel for these 10+ min uploads. 🤘
Oh man, definitely want to see more solder scraping. A detail I completely missed on brass instruments until now. It absolutely makes a joint look more expensive lol
Wes, I’m loving the new video formats! It’s really cool to see some of the processes that you take to make these tools and then how they help you with the instrument repairs. Keep it up!
That’s just the cutest little chop saw ever. 🥹
i enjoy the mixed content, you said knurling the handle the last time i knurled was 55 years ago keep up the good work
You have the coolest shop full of tools.
Yes, love the formats... keeps the viewing experience fresh! Thanks!
The variety is terrific, thanks Wes!
Any format is enjoyable and informative. You could also drill and tap for some set screws to make changing the blade easier when it is no longer good, A small flat on the end of the blade would keep it rigid.
Very interesting. Keep up the content, the added real time info is super.
Hey Wes, the variety in the formats is interesting, I like it. This is a wonderful video as it is always nice to learn new skills and make stuff too. Cheers!
I'm okay with all formats. The work you're doing here is not only informative, but rewarding as well to know more music is out there from your works. You do your craft a great service, because you are surely helping to usher in more folks to take on your trade , thereby compounding the effect of these videos. Keep making content. 👍👍👋
Love the different formats keep em coming
im a guitar kinda guy, llways was, but watching your videos has opened my eyes to these kinda instruments, you and miss kay, carry on with what your'e doing, very nice job, also hi from nottingham uk
Hello Wes, like the formats and the greats ideas. Guess I will be trying this soon ;)
Thanks for all the videos.
All good on content keep showing the special skills, your a true artisan
Excellent! And...the formats are great!
Everything you put out has been useful. Whatever format you release I will watch and learn from. Thank you master tech!
Your videos are so good, that they make me want to change my work :D
I like the different formats :)
Nice video. Thanks for posting.
You're doing a fantastic job Wes. I am not at all interested in brass instruments, but I love watching a professional excelling at his craft. You epitomize that.
Great videos! You are an amazing combination of technician and Artist. And a super teacher! You do magic when you bring these instruments back to life.
Formats: I don't care for shorts. Too short, lack your valuable narrative, and are mostly eye candy rather than content. Your channel is one of my most favorite.
Love the videos
Groooovy!
Thanks for sharing how to make a simple tool. Regarding the format, I think you could occasionally film what is happening on any day. Customers bring in instruments, y'all work on them, customers take instruments home. Also, I would like to see more work on woodwinds. I loved your clarinet rebuild last year.
I was thinking of filming the pick up of one of the trashed horns to get the real time reaction after it has been saved.
@@kristimiller-lee2338 Yes. The owner reaction to your "magic" would be great.
Now I just want a lathe. Any suggestions for getting into lathe work? We don't have one at the shop I'm in.
This is great stuff! Love the new content. Love the big repair videos, but these detailed dives into individual aspects of the tools and repairs are fantastic.
On a side note, would copper be another option for solder scrapers?
Brother,...Where did you get that hat, it's awesome, and I need one!
What about aluminum? Some alloys are not as hard as brass and solder will not stick to them. Also, super hard hardwoods like purple heartwood? Maybe even the rest of that drumstick?
👍🎺♥
great video, but could we get a less loud intro?
Agreed!
I am unfamiliar with soldering brass instruments. I have in the past, however, silver braised, steel tubing, and fittings together. Remember the braze or perhaps in this case, the solder will go wherever the flux is. In my case, I would use masking tape to define the area on the tube that I didn’t want the silver braze to exceed and then I put the flu on and then just before I heated it, I would remove the tape. This probably would work well if you’re soldering a joint, particularly for plumbing and you want it to look good.
As a sidenote, if you are using voice to text in UA-cam, as I must because of vision issues, check every word before you post it, because artificial intelligence in this case is extremely poor and changes the words to something stupid.
I don't care for the shorts. Shorts are for puppies barking at hot oatmeal. Your content is a process, which I love to sit back and take it in. Thanks for all your hard work! BTW, the intro is too loud.
Intro personally doesn't bother me but I totally agree about the shorts.....useless.
