    Can 17-7 ph springs be reformed and re-tempered similarly to 1095 spring steel?

      Solution anneal then correct the shape and then condition and age to harden should work if the only issue is the spring has deformed. If the deformed spring has developed any cracks, then replace with new rather than try to affect a repair. Heat treating steps may be cost prohibitive. Hope that helps.       @@MichlinMetals very much so, I'm looking for an alloy that is corrosion resistant, and can be annealed at single points and then re-hardened to spring temper, similar to 1095. Can you suggest a material to look into?

    So what has better corrosion resistance and strength? 17-7ph or 316?

      From the chemistry, it would be behind grade 316 in corrosion, due to a lower nickel content and the absence of molybdenum.

      316 has better corrosion performance in most agressive environments. 17-7 has much higher strength but unless there is difficult forming involved in the part design, there would be better options to achieve the strength required. Design engineers would want to know both the strength level required and the corrosion environment.
