He never actually won the title. GSP relinquished it. He didn't defend it ever either. Not saying the circumstances are his fault, but those are the facts.

That's the risk you take when you're the one pushing forward, those counters, it happens.
Thing is, that's exactly how you DON'T fight a striker like Izzy. Anyone who's paid attention to Izzy's fights will clearly see he's a counter striker. So why in the world would you constantly rush in on a guy like that, giving him the opportunity he needs? Was a bad way to fight him. Think he saw the bit of success Gastelum had with it and got gassed up, but it's not a smart way to fight that kind of striker. It's almost like asking them to counter you with something smh

UFC fighters are so strong and mentally tough. Very few people can understand what they go through. Training everyday by hard work outs. Then cutting weight. Then fighting for their lives and reputation in front of all the world to see and getting paid pennies on the dollar.. They deserve so much respect. Thanks to these men and women and the cyborg category whatever it is. Absolute high level people who deserve honor. Thank you fighters.
And they deserve a lot more money for it to. Mostly the champions. Champs should get a couple mill for each fight. I think his 18 month layoff hurt and he let himself get talked into a striking match. When Robert is world class on the ground and should have brought it down there to win. Hes a real champ and young so he will learn from it and get the belt back. I have a feeling it will be like a gsp learning experience and he'll use his wrestling a lot more

He should have pulled a DC move. He has great wrestling. Push him against the fence dirty box then take him down. I think he let him get in his head about striking. When Robert has a huge advantage on the ground and should have taken it there. I think he let himself get talked into a stand up instead using his huge advantage on the ground and would have easily won there. He will be back and win the belt back.

It’s odd, I can’t remember the last champ I saw who seemed really tore up about losing their belt. Maybe DC but I feel that was more to do with losing to Jones. It seems like the peak is actually winning the belt and then the feeling of being champ plateaus. Like most things in life the idea of the thing is more desirable than the thing itself
