This was my first bike. I wanted a Honda 90 but my Dad looked at them and thought they were junk. A guy he worked with had a Harley hummer for sale and he talked me into buying it. I rebuilt it and learned a lot about motorcycle mechanics. I also learned to never go for a long ride without a fairly complete tool kit and spare nuts & bolts. The bike constantly had carb problems, like leaking fuel like a sieve. Brought back memories not all of them good. My next bike was a 250cc suzuki x6 hustler.
Awesome bike, I have two of them that I have had for 43 yrs ( 1948 & 49) and finally this year I'm restoring both of them, Some things I have learned are 50:1 fuel / semi- synthetic Oil, 60w Amsoil V-Twin in gear box / primary (not gear oil, clutch will slip) after the battery has been out you must FLASH the generator (not running) by jumping across the voltage regulator or it won't charge and you can burn out gen, you will see a little spark if you are doing right) , left side to right side (DO NOT touch the center screw). GOOD LUCK!
Great job 👏 love the work. My girlfriend just received one from her dad which we will doing the same to the bike . Thank you for the insight. Keep it in the wind.
Warning - Your social life will increase... in a very good way. For example, when you go to the store and come back out to your bike there will be a small crowd asking all kinds of questions about the bike. Most never knew HD built Hummers. It's a ton of fun Mike. Enjoy yourself.
@@DSmitheman Roger that1. I'm currently restoring two 1940's Simplex Servi-cycles. Both frames are at my metal guys shop fixing some bad frame hacks and rot.
I had a Harley hummer . I'm 43 now .when I was 8 my dad being a Harley Davidson mechanic working at Harley dealerships brought a basket case hummer home for me. The frame and front and rear suspension was all entacked with factory gas tank. The disassembled motor and tranny and motor parts where in a 3 plastic milk crates . since im into antique /muscle cars and trucks and autobody certified I should have kept the bike . when I was 16 I think I sold everything for 100 bucks? Kicking my self in the ass! Nice bike though
@@DSmitheman I just looked at the different years and models of hummers and found one identical if it was fixed up . A 1963 Harley hummer. I remember it had the sportster style gas tank and those knobby dirt bike style tires

The Honda just change oil once each season lol
The Harley Hummer was my first motorcycle back in 1958 when I was 14. I still ride a Harley at 78.
I just learned about these. Really cool little machines.
Agreed.

That is a awesome bike, back to basics , no apps. GREAT!!!
Excellent video. I just bought a frame and triple tree fork.
Thanks. You are going to enjoy working on your bike because they are such cool little machines.

Thank you.
Awesome restoration! I’d love to get one but concerned that at 6ft3 I’d swamp it. How tall are you? Thanks
I might be buying one that's already restored. Getting excited now.

Awesome job. Love those bikes
Thanks. I enjoy riding that bike.
GREAT FUN!
THANKS!
Wondering if I could put the magneto set up from a newer hummer on my 1952 125 hummer. And maybe the carb too if it’s better. Suggestions please
The Hummer expert you should consult with is Charles "Mutt" Hallam. His contact info is on the Hummer site: www.harleyhummerclub.org/parts/index.html
nice... I restore them...i love them little scooters... thanks for sharing...
They look cool, they're old and nice to ride around town on. Cheers..
James carter you wouldnt happen to have some magneto part would you

@@JamesCarter-ii4up that would be awesome, working on my grandpas 1959 and parts are hard to find for it
What is that book in the beginning of the video?
Where did you get pepper red
Perfect day rider for a small woman, kind of like the Honda Rebel?
What rim size are they I need just the rims
I have a 125 and 165 hummer but I can't find any information on fuel/oil mixture? can you use modern 2 cycle oil?.. or just 30w non-detergent?
I use modern day 2 cycle oil with a 32:1 mixture. I have over 800 miles since the restoration and the bike runs nicely.
My first motorcycle - maybe 50 MPH downhill with a tailwind on a good day.
So true. Fortunately I'm a light guy. Loads of fun zipping around town on this bike and man does it ever get a ton of attention. Too fun.
Bought a brand new Hummer in 1958. My record top speed was 57 MPH when the weather was just right.
Well yeah they were basically kid's bikes dude
I love this post war bikes! what's the tops speed on this one, i read it was 50 mph but that seems a lot for a 3hp engine.
My top speed was 72 kilometres per hour which is 45 mph. It feels like 72 mph. Definitely a fun bike to zip around town on.
its not a post war bike. its the most copied bike in the world. RT 125. 1930s Germany
Imagine when these first dropped
