I watched this live on NBC and text voted for Grambling. The Z.Z. Hill, the Al Green and the tuxedos got my vote. I live about 4 miles from the Superdome and can't go to the Bayou Classic. People looked at me funny the one time I went.
thanks fr sharing that i really didnt know that and I really dont know much about gsu but i would like to even though I am apare of a meac band (marching 101) but we will be seeing yall september 1st i think for the HBCU band hall of fame looking forward to it!!!
One thing that I was taught when I was in the band was to always keep your horns up. I'm looking at this video and I see dozens band members with their horns down. Your sound changes when you have some members with their instruments up and then with some theirs down. The thing I'm tryin to say is that you get a fucked up sound.
Come on GSU! Why are all the instruments playing with their bells facing downwards, @02:54 and @03:00? Especially knowing they were being filmed! Todays Directors aren't as strict like the old school Directors from back in the day. The drill was good though, but they need to raise the instrument upward when playing.
@HEBREWSOFTHEHEBREWS I def. agree that Pannell has driven the program into the ground. But i dont know about running the SWAC! Yall got a LOOOOOONNNNNGG way to go before that is even in sight!
Yes, like PIM954 said, every band has an announcer to keep the band's performance in context for the audience to follow. I happened to like this particular announcer a lot better than the ones that the band has had in recent years. I wished GSU would bring her back.
ok i really gonna settle the score here. every show style band wears tuxs, well they not tux but suit but their are hiding under some thing you out over they. look at jsu, su and the old red gsu uniforms. you see there a coat under the thing that has the schools name or initial. the NEW marching band uniforms(like the yellow and black gsu uniforms) they are noe coat jackets. look at pv . they jackets not suits like su and jsu, i know cuz my high school southwood use the same uniforms they got
They wore them in 2003 and 2007 over done how long is southern gon continue to do the same oh shows?? If you going to being up a band being up others who has been doing the same stuff over 40+ years
GAred1976 name another HBCU band that changes into white tuxedos for their halftime. And how can they be overdone? 1989, 2003, and 2007. You speak no truth!
I live in Cali and would love to see more HBCU's more often. I wated both Southern's and Grambling'sperformance and it wasn't even close. Sorry Tigers but SU is in a different league. They were precise and almost perfect and sounded great. GSU on the other hand looked sloppy and kinda disorganized. And it's way too much going on at one time. Too many gimmicks that don't work. Oh, and to long!
Im glad they let the viewers judge the halftime shows this year so that GSU fans can finally understand that this crap sucks,,,tuxedos and all!!!its aslo sad to see GSU has over 200+ people on the field and mics STILL can barely make out what the hell they are playing..it may seem that im coming down hard on yall but between SU and GSU bands there is no competition...and to be REALLY real...Southern Band does NOT even consider yall as there rivals.... Southern's real rival is Jackson State :)
Cordell Cook LIES! You tried it! Grambling been drilling to the same damn song "Let's Groove" by Earth Wind And Fire, for centuries now...LOL! Southern the only band who drills to different and unique songs! SMDH!
GSU came out with the tuxes... NOOO lol LAME! And everyone knows that bands should wear white... it looks rediculous. SU sounded way better although GSU had better song selection BUT you couldnt hear it... mics and all. And as far as Drumline the movie goes... SU turned it down HAHA. So sit down and SU is way more famous than GSU and every1 knows thats.
I remember watching this performance on NBC and all I could think was, "Where did they rent all those high school prom tuxedos?" Too gimmicky for me. Anyway, I live in Cali but my sister went to Grambling. I don't want to sound like a hater but this performance was not their best! They were too sloppy and disorganized compared to SU. And why do they ALWAYS have some fool yelling during their performances? Is the "hype" person really necessary?
This was such a nice show, great job Grambling!
that drill was a beast
Yall look good on the field, but I just got to show my love towards the Jukebox.
This is the time, this is the year. GSU GSU
I just love the way people admire me cause I play saxophone in the World Fame Crab"07"

Grambling took this one, hands down.

Was that a guy playing a flute at 2:27? LOL!!!
UHHH...how many times are Grumbling going to wear those tuxedos? It's a bit overdone...

Is it necessary for the one that does it for SU?
