When Stephen brought up being an understudy early in his career, I realized I've been watching him for a long time. I remember being 11 years old back in the '90's and putting a blanket under my door so I could stay up past my bedtime to watch the Daily Show. 25 years later and I watch him on UA-cam while I drink my morning coffee. Who woulda thought.

I use to set my alarm and wake up at 11:30pm, wake up my little brother who was in the other bed next to me, throw a blanket over my TV at the end of the bed, back over the both of us and then him and I would watch Johnny Carson back in the mid 60s! haha things never change. I was like 13/14 .. Ill be 70 this fall...

When I was a kid, he had his own show already and it was always on after school. Then South Park, it was fantastic.
How Stephen has the lung capacity and breath control to deliver his Meanwhile intro in two breaths is amazing.

Well the trick is.... he doesn't. You can actually count his breaths during each half, up to 10 breaths in one half
He is a trained professional; do not try this at home!
I love that Stephen slams Pappa John’s at every opportunity.
Meanwhile - the funniest intros ever! I'm missing Jon, but really enjoying seeing Louis leading the band. Super talented!
Awesome seeing Lewis is getting more and more comfortable in that role when Jon is away.

Lewis is a very cool guy, explaining musical instruments to us. If we can’t have Jon, Lewis is a fine replacement.

Same. John Baptiste is obviously a virtuoso musician, but whenever he and Steven talk, he seems like he'd rather be singing whatever he's saying-- like music is just his native language. Louis does the chat and banter way more comfortably.

As a trombonist for 30 years, I would love to see Stephen at least try the trombone a little bit. Have fun with it. It's like a giant slide whistle toy that also sounds badass when played right. I get children interested in playing in band by letting them play a glissando.

I believe this is the first time anyone has uttered the word “partials” on television* in its definition as a term of the physics of sound (acoustics). He could have also used the term “harmonics” or “overtones” and more people might have gotten it (including Stephen), though partials is the more precise term to describe what different lip pressures produce on brass instruments.
*Well maybe it was used on some PBS science show.

I've never heard the term 'embouchure' before. You learn something new every day.
And, yes, agree with the other commenters who say more of Louis. A different kind of energy to Jon Baptiste, but a good energy, and it's nice to hear more from him.
When I had to choose my instrument in 7th grade, the band director had me smile hard with my lips closed and a strong chin, then purse my lips and try to whistle. He said I talked too much in class to be able to play the flute and put me on clarinet. That’s embouchure! 😂 (turned out okay since I sat first chair as of 9th grade! band nerd all the way ❤️)
That must've been awkward for the guy who was in such a hurry that he jumped from the wing of a taxiing plane, just to then meet everyone else from his flight at the baggage claim.

I enjoyed the back and forth with the acting bandleader about his guitar/trombone. I'm an old musician who started as a band kid playing trombone in the late 60's, later picking up the guitar after telling the band director where he could put his trombone. Anyhow..., a lovely shared thing - technique wise - between the two instruments is their ability to bend and slide individual notes. People tell me that my guitar solos sound sort of horn-y.
