Turn them in. Trust me,they will be back. Don’t give them a chance to return. Protect yourself.

I don't blame you for being upset at all. I live in a city and I get absolutely pissed off whensomeone comes on my yard without permission! I finally had a regular outdoor videocamera put up at the front of my property looking down my driveway. I also put a sign upthat reads; "This property under 24hr. video surveillance." That has made a HUGE difference for the better!

I would put up signs, and alert the sheriffs department with a copy of the video. They may have knowledge of someone that's a problem and could use the video down the line. While you may not want to turn them in, it is a pattern of behavior that shows invasiveness and potentially a risk for escalation. It's a good idea to alert the sheriff's department just in case there are further issues down the line. I'd be concerned about them showing up and spooking you or your dog and causing a confrontation.

    • @SpiritForest

I am thinking about doing that, but will try to find them first. Since, I posted this video I have talked with a few neighbors to see if they recognize the man, they do not. I don't have a lot of neighbors, so I will find him at some point. This trail cam has a GREAT picture, and I got a really clear shot of him. It was clear to me that he was only there for curiosity. I just want to have a talk with him, he could be a good person just making the wrong decision. And don't want him there if Rocky isn't on leash.. that won't end well.

Absolutely! Rottweillers are great and have major protective instincts. He will put himself in harms way for you guys, so it's always a good idea to do what you can to keep him from getting in that situation. Jasper (my RW mix) has been in that situation, and it's a really hard thing for them to recover from - their protective tendencies will be strengthened the first time they have to use them, and it is difficult to have them trust people afterwards. I really hope the situation clears up quickly and the stress goes away soon!

I live nearly a mile from my nearest neighbor or public roadside , in the middle of 160 acres with heavily posted borders. Still people sneak in here. I've caught them on my cameras multiple times. Some I know, some I don't.
I have smelled cigarette smoke on several occasions. Last month I found a few butts in a spot where someone had been sitting less than fifty yards away from my house. It appears as if they have visited on several occasions. I'm not easily spooked but this is becoming disturbing. I have a teenage daughter living with me. There should be some sanctity so far from others on private, posted land. I pay over three thousand in taxes yearly but the local sheriff says he doesn't have the resources. I have placed a camera. If I catch the intruder on film, and it is not a child, their next visit will be very unpleasant. 330 connibare traps are very painful and nearly impossible to escape from without help. It will be chained to a tree. Frankly, I don't care about the legal implications, no one has the right to creep around another man's home.

Definitely more signs are in order. In regards to them exploring because they were curious, let's turn it around: how do you think that they would feel if they came home and found out that you brought 3 dogs and a friend over to their house and had been exploring their kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom just because you were curious? Whether or not you have outside walls up, it is still your private living area with your private belongings on your private property. They were very wrong to help themselves to your "home area". They knew that they were in the wrong the minute they saw any personal belongings, but they chose to trespass anyway. Since the beginning of your channel, I've been expecting this to happen, not necessarily from curious neighbors, but from viewers. If you do decide to put up fake cameras or "sham cams" as I call them, please do not announce it publicly. Also, announcing publicly when you'll be there and when you won't is a mistake. Sharing your journey is one thing. Giving possible intruders a blueprint for theft or worse is another.

You remind me of myself when I was younger. Isaw that you have a couple of young ladies and a dog. The only difference is I had two boy's. I'm now 75 and I still live out in the middle of nowhere. Please stay safe. I'll be keeping tabs on you. I enjoyed your video but it did bother me. Like I just said you and those girls be safe. Some of your viewers have given you good advice. I suggest No Trespassing/private property signs. Check local ordinances on spacing and other requirements.
I wouldn't put up anything about cameras. That way they won't get stolen. And will capture a trespasser.

First, let your local law enforcement know that it happen.
Second, Near the tent, place a motion detector with a flasher. The sudden flash will make them realize a camera may be taking pictures. Then, just relax and realize things happen.

I had the exact same thing happen to me in England, also caught a local neighbour on camera - I printed off his image and his dogs image and found out from the locals where he lived and I went and knocked on his door...I politely pointed out that there were no public rights of way on my land. also I didn't want him on the property - in case he hurt himself I would be liable! I rounded of the conversation by giving him my phone number and asking him to keep an eye on my property (from a distance), and letting me know if he saw anything suspicious going on - Some months later he came and found me with a sapling tree as a gift for my land - no problems since! I hope that helps. I am a new subscriber! Love your attitude I will enjoy catching up with your film history. All the best. Sam.

Things like this can go two ways. It was an innocent couple just curious with no regard for another persons property or someone doing a stake out first and then will come back later. And who's to say they don't go back and tell a friend, or someones teen over hears the conversation and they get some friends and go back to the property! Nipping this in the bud might not be your thing cuz you don't want to get anyone in trouble will then make you an easy target. Didn't you work gard for this? And I'm sure like most of us, you don't have money to replace everything! Protect whats yours so that there is no domino effect from this. And most of all, don't post anything anywhere on social media for the whole world to see you have camera's. That only evokes more carnage on the property as the guilty try and challenge themselves to locate and remove those cameras. First line of defense is your signs, second are your cameras and third, let NO ONE get away with this. Heck, I don't even know you and when I saw this video, I felt violated all the way over here in Washington State. Protect whats yours!

    • @SpiritForest

I am thinking it is the first "innocent couple just curious with no regard for another persons property" I have put up more signs and a new camera.. Someone commented on putting a list together of what I have out there. My list won't be that long, since most of the time I bring my gear up there.. but still don't have the funds to replace all that is there. I know you don't know me.. but I appreciate your comment.. and I will protect what is mine. ;) Cheers Ron!

Hey! My husband and I are living near you and doing the same thing as you. Stay strong, you are fighting the good fight and I know the struggle all too well. Everywhere you go around here someone is going to have an opinion on what you're doing. I recommend you post signs that saved property is under surveillance and any trespassers will be reported I also recommend that in the future you enforce this even if you gain a reputation for being the lady who calls the police at least you put your foot down and people who don't want to deal with it won't bother you ever again.

Haha...thanks for asking. We will be going through winter in a trailer, need time to accumulate some more money plus it was late in the summer that the old property sold and the move happened. One key thing that I am working on is getting the trailer winterized....something along the lines of what Jesse and Alyssa are doing on their channel Pure Living for Life, last winter here was -36Cat times with 3 feet of snow. Unfortunately there will be no running water up here so managing with 7 x 5 Gallon cans of water a week is a lesson well learned. Today I am home skidding some fallen trees and 'widow makers' out of the front of the property close to my old well. Sorry I missed your live feed :(

I know the feeling of a wonderful, magical place that has been snooped on. In my neck of the woods, if my land isn't marked clearly with Posted, No Hunting or No trespassing signs, it means that someone will probably start shooting deer on my land. I had poachers too that came at 3:00 to get their venison out of season. They got caught because I had a DEC sheriff hiding in the woods with camouflage on. HA, gotcha! Please take care and don't keep this under your hat- you could be helping your neighbors out by reporting it. And please make sure your land is clearly marked. Some people just don't have any decency or respect for privacy.

Def agree with other's "Do not post video surveillance" But do post No Trespassing to cover yourself with the Law. And I would def find this guy, He knew what he was doing was wrong. If he was out walking his dogs then he must be close by, { I would also place a cam somewhere you can see your driveway. Check out SportsmanGuide.com for cams, usually have some good deals. BTW. Good People know their place and your land is not their place, They need to be taught how real neighbors treat each other's property.

I have 2.5 acres in Arizona and last summer my neighbors near my land said my other neighbor came on my land and took my 40 foot trailer. His answer was I thought it was abandoned. I live in Massachusetts full time and go out to Az for vacation. He returned the trailer and I put up no trespassing signs and private property signs. My neighbor that told me about it visits my property everyday to check on things. Most people don’t understand that private property means stay out. I did however put up signs that read no trespassing trespassers will be shot on site. It is necessary for desert land to be protected that way because it will take the police a very long time to get to my land where it is. Unless they fly in. Just be careful Tammy and don’t be so trusting of people out there. That dude had no business being on or near your property. Make a report and give the video to the police. Take care. And I love your videos.

  • @battlehymn6389
    @battlehymn6389 7 років тому +11

First off, you caught the deer on camera because you pointed it at the road, deer just can't help but stand in the middle of a road. If you pave it they will come.
You removed the audio, so there is a question I would ask ... when your trespassers approached did they call out at all? It would seem apparent that someone (you) was staying there from quite a ways off, so If there was no attempt to call out their intent is highly suspect. As most have suggested I recommend that you post some signs and give the video to the local law enforcement, or at least file a report and make mention that you have video just in case there are any issues in the future you have a paper trail. Make sure you make a copy and keep it off-site somewhere just in case.
It's likely that your visitors were just nosy neighbors doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason but with no real ill intent.

Awww, I feel so bad for you! And for everyone that comes out there to enjoy it, especially your girls. I think I would react exactly the way you are. I may want to do things and be more aggressive in letting the trespassers know, this isn't okay. But after I calm down just like you, I would want to take a calmer approach and keep peace. If they're coming on your property and snooping around like that, who knows what they would be capable of. Certainly don't want to start a bad blood relationship. I think putting up extra signs for no trespassing and as money allows to get more trail cams, I think that's a very wise approach. My heart really hurts for you. It's just not cool to be like this and intrude on someone's peaceful sanctuary. You have so many hopes and dreams and things you want to fulfill out there. And its a huge thing that you've accomplished buying the land and building the foundation for the tent...etc.... All your time and effort of figuring out the finances and when you can buy things and what's going to look good. They just tarnished something that was supposed to be pure. Allow yourself to feel the feelings that you feel and then just don't let them rob you of the peace that you want to have out there. Maybe a few times with a little bit of strategy you could get dropped off with a friend and leave Rocky behind and hang out there quietly and see what happens. Them walking up and finding you there without a vehicle may be shocking and embarrassing enough to stop them. And maybe after they meet you, and who knows how the confrontation would be if it would be hopefully calm and full of everything that you already are and lots of dignity, maybe it would stop. Hopefully it no longer continues and it was a one-time thing. But that's the bad thing about feeling violated now you feel like anytime all the time it's going to be happening. They've taken something from you that's hard to regain and that's not cool! I'll keep you in my prayers and I guess this is a lesson to all of us no matter how alone we feel we never truly are, but, because we're grown-ups and we've learned so much we can regain our posture and our positive nature and go forward. But adding some locks and some other secure measures and making sure not to leave things too readily available for someone to steal in the future maybe is another thought too. Hopefully they're not the kind of people that are sizing it up to come and do something later. I actually hated saying that last sentence, but, you know what I mean. So I wish you peace and calm and enjoyment of the land as God intended it, but, now to have gained some wisdom on how to further enjoy things at a level that's different than you originally thought. Take care dear and continue making these wonderful videos! I enjoy watching your journey! It's going to be okay!

I have 4 game cameras on my property and get pictures of trespassers all the time. Not a lot I can do about it.
One photo showed two guys and a girl walking into my property. The guys both had machetes in hand. An hour later there is a picture of the two guys walking past the camera on the way out. No girl anywhere in that picture. Though my camera waits 5 min after a picture to take the next shot so she could have been 10 feet behind them.

I would definitely show neighbors.... you are being too nice... if he was only curious then you should be as well.... he needs to know he was seen.... a grown man does not need to be wandering your property (even with another female) with you having two young daughters...(I am a female.... my opinion...man is more dangerous than a bear) take care... the way you were fidgeting with your hands.. I would say you were very uncomfortable about this lady.... take care

Personally I would be livid, as I am big on private property rights etc etc.
I know it never feels good to have your work judged in a negative way, but the good from that is if this person ever comes back to try and befriend you, then you will know what they are about right out of the gate.
I would put up no trespassing signs for sure if you have not already.
The thing with no trespassing signs is that the police actually have to warn them first and they will arrest the second time, or at least that's how it works in Texas.
If they come back I would call the police regardless.
Also you can get still picture cams for cheaper that are motion activated.
I'm not sure if it were me that I would try and call attention to the cameras as if someone knows they are there and are there to commit a crime they could steal all your cameras, that's happened to a couple of my neighbors.
I pray it's a one time event for you, I think that's disrespectful on several levels, I mean what if Rocky was there and a huge dog fight broke out.
Just stay on alert and have some means of defense to stay safe :-)

I wouldn't worry too much. My wife and i are also developing land up at high elevation in Colorado and we have people stop by to see how we are doing things. I often see footprints on the property and we are very remote at 11000ft. If nothing was disturbed or stolen then i think what you had was someone who is interested in doing something similar and wanted to see your setup to get ideas. He probably admired what you have done and left with a little inspiration.

Even if you didn't want to know, it's best to know and have an awareness of what's going on. I personally would want to find out that persons identity just because. My dear Spirit Forest. I just finished watching this vid and that was a mistake because I am absolutely SEETHING with anger and outrage. I am typing this in absolutely the wrong frame of mind but this kind of behavior on the part of your 'neighbor' is anything but 'neighborly'. With your permission, I will comment and also make some suggestions to you by way of reminder of your right, and duty, to protect your violated person-hood.
Here are some of my thoughts (the ones that I could put into 'polite' language). You are a female. This means that you have been socialized along certain lines. You think, feel and speak in a certain way, as most women do (at least here in North America).
To begin: This is not meant to be taken as a lecture from me to you, only my observations. May you find them to be both helpful and worthy. Please pardon me if sometimes my anger peeks out.
    1. You are a land-owner in a sparsely populated state in the western U.S. People should have the good sense, and manners, not to trespass on privately-owned land. End of story. Period. Full stop. Do you not believe that you have the right to defend and protect what is yours ? Evidently not, since I hear you saying that you do not want to 'turn anybody in'. What will it take to convince you to 'get hard', and right damn now...discovering the bodies of your children (God forbid !), or your belongings stolen and sold? It sounds harsh, but that is the reality of the world we are living in. Are you living in some kind of fantasy world of 'love and good feelings' that you believe that other human beings think and feel as you do ? The hippie movement ended long ago (more's the pity). There is no such thing as 'free love' anymore, and wasn't that a great time in history ? God, I miss the 60's.
    2. Do you own, or know how to use, firearms ? Please learn how, if you don't. Have you forgotten your famous 2nd Amendment rights (put in place to allow you to defend your 1st Amendment rights, in the event that government becomes tyrannical, or if you are abused by an envious, mindlessly violent citizenry, as America can now claim to possess) ?
    3. You appear to believe that these people are well-disposed towards you. You say that you want to 'talk' with this individual. About what ? What could possibly be of interest to you that you wish to converse with someone who has so little regard for you, and yours, that he blatantly comes and goes as he pleases ON. YOUR. LAND ? And this brings me to my point about the differences in the psychology of men and women (I am aware that I may appear to be a sexist at this point in the minds of some). In one breath you appear to be willing to tolerate this violation, both of your private property rights, as well as your person-hood, yet in the next breath piously proclaim that you feel 'violated', as well you should ! But I believe that your thoughts are unclear and your mind is obviously blurred. You appear to be confused, unsure of which way to jump, so to speak. You say that you have no wish to 'turn him in' to the police, nor make him known via social media. Why not ? This. is. your. sovereign. right. Post signs on your land that it is private property and trespassers are NOT welcome, and will be prosecuted. That's how it was done when I was a kid, and in some parts of North America, it is STILL done that way. As it should be. Have you forgotten that private property rights are one of the cornerstones of American civilization, in a country founded as a Constitutional Republic by those magnificent (and magnificently flawed) geniuses who dared to declare to, at that time, the greatest empire on Earth that men have the right to govern themselves, and absolutely refuse to be enslaved by a foreign tyrant, as the English king came to be regarded ? Now I know men who would (and have !) lined the byways of their property with remotely detonated claymore mines (no joke). Can you imagine how surprised any trespasser would be when 700 steel balls travelling at the speed of sound shred his body into a red mist ? That would, I think, end your trespasser problem. Word would get around. DO NOT walk on Spirit Forest's private land. This may very well be completely illegal, of course. It does not mean that it was not done in the post-Vietnam era in America (maybe it is still being done today, what with ISIL/ISIS doing their thing in the World). I am aware that this is extreme, of course, and horrible, and rightly so, but unless you enjoy the sensation of feeling 'violated' whenever a trespasser has the nerve to 'come-as-you-please' on your land, then you are going to have to overcome some of your perfectly natural, rational, sane, well-intentioned prejudices regarding 'living in peace' with your neighbors, and having them respect your property and privacy, since at least one of your neighbors has made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of reciprocating your courtesy. Sorry to sound so harsh; I told you I am furious. I fear that I am internalizing your issue. Please discover what the law says about this issue in your state, and do please let me know. Keep up the great work; chin up. All the best.
    Your fan Seb in Canada.

You are most welcome. Apologies for the seemingly harsh tone of my earlier comments, but you were warned !...LOL...glad to know that you are moving toward a more balanced internal state and are making more rational decisions. This world is not a kind place & the inattentive, and the foolishly trusting, will be devoured. It would grieve me to discover that you fell prey to the consequences of nonsensical thinking. Good to see that a warrior is re-discovering her ancient power. That's my gal !...go get 'em !...LOL...

I felt the same way as you do. When I caught my first trespasser on my game cam. Next time I seen him I told him about it. What I learned is the guy that owned it before me didn't care who used it. So I explained that I can't let that happen any more because I didn't what the responsibility of there safety using my land. Times have changed , and they're people out there that will take what you worked very hard for. But I live on my property , so there is some differences. I would tell some of the the neighbors . That you caught somebody on your trail cam going through your stuff. If they are doing it to you , they're doing to everyone else. The word would spread fast . And the guy will hear about it. He would never admit to it , but you will never see him again.

Snoopy dude on the vid looks old enough to know better. Do you have a sign that says private property under surveillance...violators will be prosecuted? I'd take it as some type of warning for your own safety and make sure you have a weapon or plan in place in case people think it's a free-for-all and the above dude is stupid enough to come back or tells his friends. This is just my personal opinion, but I say you might be being slightly too trusting in people. I try to find the good in everyone, this is a major problem. You shouldnt have to "find" good in others. Meaning I should not have to search for it, it should be obvious. This is a lesson I learned the hard way! You never know someone elses TRUE intent. I LOVE your story and what you are doing, it is truly inspiring to me!! It just concerns me because I am aware that evil people with evil intentions do in fact exist in our world. I aint saying you arent aware of this or anything bad by any means so please dont take this the wrong way. I just kindly warn you to maybe not assume everyone is harmless. And I certainly dont mean to scare you in anyway!! I just think that sometimes we being good hearted caring loving genuine people sometimes forget that not everyone else is the same way. Unfortunately! ! Which REALLY sucks that I even think this way, but I have had some, "learning experiences" from not only strangers but even people we know, family even that have taught me a) never trust anyone and b) just because someone appears human, does not mean they are of good or harmless intent. I would have several cameras!! Maybe even booby traps to alert me that someone is or has been in my area.. Especially with it just being you alone or the three of u, you can never be too safe!! God bless you! Thanks for sharing your journey, I love to watch!!

Yeah, put up warning signs for two reasons (1) to deter trespassers and you have evidence (2) you may get paying campers, (if your thinking of making an income to help with maintenance or upkeep.). The other thing with that trespasser to know that you were not home, says he has been watching you. Finally, wildlife know none the better, humans do. People out on a hike with their dogs. Without a clearly defined fence line though, some one wandering through the woods might not know they're on private property.

I understand your personal ethics on this matter, but there are issues you are ignoring and should consider. 1. You have evidence of a deliberate crime. 2. The individuals cannot be assumed to have just been snooping. 3. You've derived information about people who are literally watching through a wooded area with enough involvement in your PRIVATE life to have been able to schedule a time to invade your privacy with ease and an apparent lack of concern about being caught. 4. You need to give local PD or SO a copy of this incident and you can do it online. Be safe

I think one thing for sure, it is definitely a rude and un-neighborly thing for anyone to do, and they obviously do not respect your property, it may not be a bad idea to take the video with you to the police station and see what they say about it, look this situation could be totally innocent, and on the other hand you have children that come out there with you, I think if it were me, at the very minimal I would get a trespass on them or a restraining order, you know as well as anyone you can't be too careful these days, or maybe if you do talk to the cops just ask their advice on what to do, and go with that, at least you will have done your due diligence. You, and your children's safety (yes and Rocky too) are top priority! Get more cameras, I'm sorry but it's the world we live in today. I feel very bad for you, moving out to the country for serenity and then some ASSHOLE has to come along and mess with your mind. Again....more cameras!

Sorry this happened to you! Completely understand why it would bum you out, especially if they were critical of something you obviously love and are proud of. It's not an uncommon thing in remote areas. I know the hunting camp I belong to in upstate NY (I don't really hunt, but go for the camaraderie), gets broken into every winter. People around here, Cincinnati area, that have remote cabins get broken into as well. No way to really prevent it. As mentioned below, "No Trespassing" signs and secret cameras are a good start. May want to consider a gate, and a fence by your driveway entrance too. You could probably make that out of trees on the property. I second what people said about alerting the Sheriff and keeping something to protect yourself at hand too.

Since, I posted this video I have talked with a few neighbors to see if they recognize the man.

You mentioned the cameras being expensive. Go to Walmart and get a Tasco 6 or 8 MP trail cam I have 4 of them. For a 6 MP, batteries and a sd card, will cost about 40 bucks. For an 8 with the same things, about 50. Don't let the price fool you. They really are a good investment.

We've seen this at our place. I hosted a party with as many veteran friends as I could. We drank all night and then shot every weapon we had for an hour. No one has come up to our place in 4 years

Get the cameras and post plenty of no trespassing signs. Let your neighbors know your concerns about trespassing and to call you for any suspicious persons at your property.

Don’t trust anyone! If you own the property, put up no trespassing signs.

In areas of my property where cattle enter I have laid old deer netting flat on the ground, the plants and briars grow through it and make it almost impossible for cattle and human invaders to sneak in. I have guns and have hunted but I am not sure about walking around armed all the time, it just tends to escalate the behaviour of intruders to a higher level and they come prepared. Get to know your land intimately and know how to move around in the dark in bush, trip wires can be useful (use fishing line so it is invisible) establish what are good vantage points to observe from and take stock of unwelcome activity. Do not live in fear as it is incapacitating and unfortunately some individuals get off on this...God Bless you and you will be safe in your lovely Spirit Forest.

BTW..purple paint on a stake. Is a indicator of a private property boundary line if you don't want to put up no tresspassing signs

I am a person who has had trail cameras as security cameras FOR YEARS and I HATE THEM as necessary as they are .I don't want to see all the stalking and wrongs people do in fact it's a huge vexation to the spirit toward humanity , however with or without them they don't go away , and it gets worse without the cameras (PROWLING AND SUCH ) . They can make your faith in humanity disappear quite readily , the prime example is THE MIDDLE FINGER SALUTE DAILY ...it's heart breaking and what people don't understand is that when you view them it really truly feels like people are walking up to you inside your home and giving the middle finger ,and sharing their opinion , Are they clueless to how that feels ? YES , and they really don't care . GOOD LUCK !

I feel like spending the extra $ for the cams, for you, would feel a lot better than "turning them in" per se.
I think you have your answer. You are so much kinder than I would ever be.
    Wishing you fun and safety.

I really need to set up trail cams in my camp. It would also give me some additional clues as to what adventures my cat is up to at night. Does your cam work at night?

As a 40 year land owner I have had trespassers constantly. Nothing helps unless you can physically catch them or maybe get them on cam and turn them in and I think that's a fine for first offence. I have went from the nice approach to now going full out crazy on them when I do catch them. I haven't turned anybody in so far, Furthers I went was send a man a letter telling him not to come back but that only made him come back even more and leaving things so I know he was there. Signs do not help, I put probably 4 times the necessary legal amount of them completely around my property. I hope what you try helps but so far I have found nothing to stop trespassers. Do not set a trap to do harm or you would be the one going to jail. I have no useful info to share on this so I will close with saying I hope you find a way to either stop them or come to terms with law breakers do not care and will never be respectful of other peoples rights. I wish we could catch them then they would have to pay the taxes on the property for that year along with an auto restraining order from the court to stay off or next time caught it would be a 5 year tax bill lol.... Ok I am an old man, get me started and I keep on rambling on forever lol... I wish you the best.

I think you should put up no trespassing signs and more cameras. Be safe. I've just found your vlogs this past weekend, and I like what you are doing. Hang in there. The haters are going to hate, but you are doing this for you, not for them. 👍😇
