I've learned to not let the age of a kit scare me away from it. 4 of the last 5 that I have bought were between 2003 and 2010 and every one of them are straight up awesome
Tbh I actually kind of prefer older kits at this point? The limited articulation is a constant issue, sure, but I've found with modern kits there's often a feeling of fragility. Like, my MG GM Sniper II was the first kit I had to actually go out of my way to tighten the joints up on (and even then, they're kind of loose) and it just kind of feels like I'm counting the minutes until something goes wrong if I try to pose it in anything more ambitious than a neutral standing pose or the sort of kneeling sniper pose they use on the box. Not quite as big of an issue with high grades, though, I'm actually really into the Origin kits so far, and new RG kits are infinitely better than old RG kits on the fragility front.
@@therealCG62 to each their own, being an rg fan myself I'm quite used to handling live granades, after some getting used to you don't really mind anymore. My only modern master grade was the freedom 2.0 and I never had a problem with that one.
This version of the Zaku II was my first master grade I was brave enough to attempt! Super cool after only building and painting HG kits. All of the moving parts and engineering in this thing are impressive
Just finished painting the inner frame of this exact kit as well, and I plan to display it with half of the armor off. The Zaku 2.0’s inner frame is just one of the most amazingly detailed in a MG kit, even among the 2.0s. All the printed on details, and the moving pistons everywhere, I can’t have the heart to cover up all of them with the amor parts. Although I found there are some missing colors, especially the red inside the thruster bells, I have no problem with painting those in myself, and I still absolutely love it.
Char’s Zaku II 2.0 was one of my first model kits when I started a few years ago. Those hoses were kind of a chore but overall still a great kit. The Gouf 2.0 is another good one since it shares a lot of the same parts with the Zaku II kits.
Been looking forward to this for a while. It's helping me narrow my selection down, I think I'll eventually get a non high mobility type, as I have a crouching pose in mind, that i think I'll display the model in.
I agree, an Origins version would be lovely! (as would a v3.0) What I'd love to see though is the ability to buy that prototype bazooka by itself, it add on to other kits ^_^
Johnny Ridden's version of this zaku has slightly different leg armor just in case anyone is wondering if there are any differences between the two. The outer leg armor is longer on Johnny's vs Shin's.
Older kits can always challenge you to make them look super detailed using modern techniques. I think of them as starting off with something basic, like a blank canvas and then turning into something amazing !
I've yet to build a Zaku 2.0 but want to at some point. I've only built the RG, and I imagine that if Bandai made a Zaku 3.0 it would look like a 1/100 scale version of the RG like the RX-78-2 3.0 was, which wouldn't be a bad thing but not what I'd really want. A MG Zaku Origin Ver. definitely sounds way more interesting and could include some of the new weapons/accessories like the massive anti-ship rifle.

I'm glad to see a couple youtube reviewers going ovr some older master grades. I honestly prefer the older stuff ovr most of the new stuff and recently been in a debate between getting this zaku or the Johnny ridden zaku... I'm more leaning towards this one cuz its white and will stand out more on my shelf but my son wants me to get the Johnny ridden one cuz its red lol
I think for 2.0 mg zakus ultimately depend on which one you like the most visually. They're all great but the different design for the high mobility type kinda hindered the articulation on the knees just like in this review

But talking about the kit itself, there is just nothing wrong with any Zaku 2.0's renditions. just pick one that you like the most and prepare to be amazed during the build.
The Neuen Bitter Zaku is a Zaku F2, very different MS and kit from the standard Zaku. This is without a doubt a 2.0 - there was nothing between this and the original MG Zaku from 1995.
the MG zaku kits are more user friendly for posing...the PG zaku are terrible...the pint joints in the legs that attaches to the main toros just pops out when i bend the leg ie. kneeling, they are good for standing only...do you agree?...maybe i'm doing something wrong?
Just a question Zaku: You mentioned in the review that the ABS frame is a downside when it comes to painting. I got a Char's Zaku and I'm hoping to paint it; any tips and tricks with the ABS?
I do a very gentle sanding then tamiya primer. Let dry should be good. Careful around ball joints and pistons it might over tighten the connection. Hope it helps.
definitely sand down the pistons a little bit before you paint them, and just be gentle with the kit over-all while posing or you'll get some scratches due to parts colliding. also be careful with the fingers. i'm not a big fan of the salmon color and always picture a more ferrari red when i see that color in older animations so i'm a lot happier with the kit after painting. the frame is really fun if you like to do details and it's almost hard to not over do it.
i think the fact that Bandai released the PG Strike with new high detailed armor(and I guess XS too), there is a good chance of a new armor roll out for these. Would be great for both full kits, and Pbandai just Armor packs in the thin boxes they use for the add ons they use for other pbandai things(MG double fin funnel, MG rx78 3.0 weapons pack and decals. etc.).
Let us be honest- this is not the zaku you want to get if you are looking to get into the zaku game. You are either going to go with Char, or one of the basic green variants.
Do you know off the top of your head if the mg F2 uses 2.0 parts? Because I don’t remember it having the turning mono-eye gimmick and it makes me upset

Amen, my 2.0 MG Gundam turned out just as good as the MG Jegan!
2010 kits are not old, its from 2005 on that things start to get risky and even then there are still some great kits from that time
not every kit, but I do agree with you. MG Zaku 2.0 and the Gelgoog 2.0 still made my jaw struck in awe. not to mention the Turn A too.

Man. We need a 1/100 Origins Zaku 2. As much as I keep hearing about how good the Zaku 2 MG is, the lack of surface detail is a deal breaker for me.

when ur confused pick the middle ground, pick the Char's Zaku cuz the color is between red and white xD

Both are good but I am vouching for Ridden because the red looks more versatile in most poses
The hoses are the worst part, I love the rest. I've built both 1.0 and 2.0 zakus, i like the springs in this one.

looks just like light versoin of Johnny Riden's psycho Zaku II but it's white.
versions that don't use the high-mobility legs have a waaaaaaaaay better kneebend, the high-mobility legs do look really cool though
