Oh boy... Bob Dylan - creating music for 60 years, over 600 songs, a songwriter who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Experimented with almost every musical genre; Folk, Rock, Blues, Country, Gospel, Rap, Swing. A man who gave voice to the Civil Rights movements and influenced almost every musician that came after him. Bob's music is a deep well - His music has been the soundtrack of my life.
Nobel Prize winner Dylan would change his style every few years and this was his Nashville Skyline album. Many people didn't even recognize his voice on this album. Check out his early hits. Mr. Tambourine Man, Like a Rolling Stone, his rap song from 65? It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall and too many others to list.
Bob set the moral tone of the 60s, and eventually 70s. When he went electric, he created the genre of folk rock, which really was the creative center of American rock.
Not to deny that Dylan is a giant among giants, but strictly speaking he did not create folk rock. It was the Byrds, inspired by The Beatles, who recorded “Mr. Tambourine Man,” that pushed Dylan to go electric. At the same time, both The Byrds & Dylan were impressed by The Animals’ electric version of “House of the Rising Sun.”
Yay Bob Dylan. Perhaps my favorite is Like a Rolling Stone. You have to be aware of his different stages. Folkie, electric, Christian. Folk music fans nearly rioted when he started using electric instru.ents. this was sometime after that and was on the soundtrack of the movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
If I was given one choice only, in order to have music in my life, but could only choose one artist it would be Bob Dylan. I’ve watched young reactors who have only known rap and hip-hop in their young lives call him, the original rapper. There is no genre in which he restricts himself to. I was six years old in 1965 when I heard Like A Rolling Stone on the AM radio. I knew then I was hearing something very different from Elvis or The Beatles. This is when he had decided to make the change from folk music to electric rock ‘n’ roll, the musicians he approached and convinced to come and be his band, became who we know as, The Band. Listen to some of his old interviews, he’s also one of the most amusing people you’ll ever see.
I love your thoughtful and funny reaction so much :) It captures the loveliness and warmth of this beautiful love song. It has been my favorite love song my whole life--since i was too young to understand its meaning :)
Any of Bob's work is excellent. But one of his best works of art from start to finish, is his "Desire" album. Not a weak song on that whole incredible piece of work.
I always enjoy “your” analysis of my generation’s music without ever living the times. Most of all I like how you relate to each other through the music👍👊
You have reviewed a few songs from the iconic Martin Scorsese film "The Last Waltz" that documented the final performance of The Band. As I (and many others) have said, it is probably the best concert video ever recorded. Many famous artists performed with The Band in that concert - Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Dr. John, Neil Diamond, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Paul Butterfield, and Joni Mitchell - and they were all great. There was a special feeling, however, when Bob Dylan took the stage and performed with The Band. You should check out his amazing performance!
Bob is The Master. His songs run the gamut from folk-protest to rock to traditional. But if you want more great love songs, check out Boots of Spanish Leather, Girl From the North Country and Just Like a Woman. Then, switching to other themes, I highly recommend Mr. Tambourine Man, Blowin’ in the Wind, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, It’s Alright Ma’ I’m Only Bleeding, It Takes a Lot to Laugh it Takes a Train to Cry, Like a Rolling Stone, Every Grain of Sand and Forever Young. Please look for original studio tracks in all cases, as Bob is notorious for changing everything from melody to time signatures to lyrics in his live performances, often rendering his songs near unrecognizable. This batch barely scratches the surface of the hundreds of masterpieces Bob’s written and recorded, but they will provide you with enough of his works to understand why he is the very greatest of them all.
Keep listening to Dylan and you'll find he'll take you on a journey through all the peaks and valleys of the human psyche. This one may make you feel warm, some may upset you (Masters of War, Hurricane, Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll), some may be thought provoking (With God on Our Side, Visions of Johanna, It's Alright Ma I'm Only Bleeding), others may make you laugh (Talking World War III Blues, I Shall Be Free), others may bring joy (Mr. Tambourine Man), some explore the trials ( Don't Think Twice It's Alright, Love Sick) and triumphs (Make You Feel My Love) of Love, as well as the challenges of Life (My Back Pages, Blowing in the Wind, Rainy Day Women #12 and #35). But after the journey, you may know more about yourself and life.
Actually this country-inflected song and album (Nashville Skyline) were a complete departure by Dylan and one to which he never returned, so it's the least typical example of his work (allowing for the fact that he had other albums that made some departures like the Daniel Lanois produced Time Out of Mind album). I'd recommend Like a Rolling Stone from his early "electric" period.
One of his sweetest albums. Over the years I have lost this album , then lost the CD . I think people took it and it is the only one that ever went missing. I bought it for the 3rd time and I still love it. My 2 favorites as a teenager back in the 1960s were Bob Dylan and Donovan.
The album this song is from 'Nashville Skyline' has a bit of a country flavour and Dylan's singing style is different than on many of his other albums. You will find that he was ever changing both vocally and musically - but obviously his lyricism was always incredible. His early work with just his voice, guitar and harmonica is definitely worth diving into - classic 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'. He inspired so many artists of the 60's and 70's to look at songwriting in a different way. Even though it is less popular, sound-wise I also like 'Slow Train Coming'. The album is more gospel/ blues rock and of course the addition of Mark Knopfler's guitar tone doesn't hurt.
React to his newest number one song Murder Most Foul which he wrote and recorded when he was around 79 or 80. Bob Dylan has been covered by other artists over 6,000 times, he won the Nobel Prize for literature, the only musician to have done that. His song Like a Rolling Stone was voted the number one song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine. The Nobel Committee in Sweden stated that he changed a generation with his music and poetry!
A most interesting first Dylan experience. So many good and diverse songs to his catalogue. I mean.....first album came out in 1962? His very early folk years include "Masters of War"; the most scathing anti-war song ever written. From 1963!! Lay Lady Lay is, to me , kind of a departure for Dylan; both stylewise and lyricwise. Please dive deep
You also saw Bob in "We are the World 🌎" he's one of the Great's, 1969 I started high school with song's like these and Woodstock coming soon, what great time's and great Music! 😀 thanks for the memories Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 great reaction 🤣
Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter of all time, and it's not even really close. He's also a much better singer than people give him credit for, especially early in his career (say, prior to 1976 or so). He has so many great songs. Try "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts" if you want a good storytelling song.
I enjoyed your reaction to the great man. I've been a fan since I first heard him singing "Like A Rolling Stone" It was my first record I ever (or my dad) bought in 1965??? I hope you enjoy a very long journey of discovery of this man's body of work. I really enjoyed your reaction. You are both so honest and loving
You might find it interesting to react to two other Dylan songs "Like a Rolling Stone" from "Highway 61 Revisited (1965)" and "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" from "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (1963)" for quite a contrast from "Lay, Lady, Lay."
The most compelling song about Dylan was written and performed by his one time love interest Joan Baez, singer, songwriter, activist. The song is "Diamonds and Rust" It's so telling, in a way that Dylan was not.
He played at Farm Aid in Indianapolis, last year (Ann Wilson from Heart showed up too). Took the stage unannounced with the late Tom Petty's band backing him up. You guys should come to Farm Aid this year on September 21st, it's going to be in upstate New York. You could see John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Dave Mathews and a bunch of other people!
Hi there I really love your videos can I make another suggestion concerning Bob Dylan is a song called I'll be free it's a really interesting song well I find the interest in anyway but
I bought this record in 1969. Big hit for him. Bob is a brilliant songwriter. Legend. ❤❤
the single or "Nashville Skyline"?

mine too...no day without Dylan...he saved my life in sooo many ways......
Mr. Dylan received the Nobel Prize in 2016 for his body of work.
Yes, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for literature.
Nobel Prize winner Dylan would change his style every few years and this was his Nashville Skyline album. Many people didn't even recognize his voice on this album. Check out his early hits. Great. Thank you for suggestions 👍😁
I love this song...and Bob Dylan. He's also great with The Traveling Wilbury's. Thanks for the memory. 😊
Yes, we covered a few of The Traveling Wilburys. Amazing group 💚

From the concert Last Waltz
I love this song. I have the original album and it's outstanding. So many facets to the one and only Bob Dylan. Cheers from Australia
My favorite Dylan is “Tangled up in Blue” & “Subterranean Homesick Blues”
Bob Dylan "Simple Twist Of Fate" ❤
Dylan wrote some great songs. His singing voice is, unique.
One of my favorite songs.
Bob Dylan: there will NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE HIM!!! ;)
Thank you kindly 😊 Andrei is the best 💚
@@MerchantOfAlba ❤️🩷💗❤️🩷💗
Bob's voice is so good on this album which is one of my favourites of his. Try Girl from the North Country, his duet with Johnny Cash.
Probably my favorite by Bob Dylan.
Good luck with exploring Dylan’s work. You both will be listening to his great music for years.
The best songwriters are really poets. Poets who tell a story. Dylan was a generational genius.
The poet 🤘🤘
Such a classic by Dylan. So sweet and mellow. Thanks so much guys for this reaction🧡
I once heard a DJ say that Bob Dylan couldn't write very well, but he loved his voice. A million comedians out of work....
I like his vocals and playing and the tunes more than the words. Many of the songs I have never even tried to figure out what he tried to say.
@@leonardshevlin7260 Have you ever listened to "Positively 4th Street"?
@@757optim It's one of my favorites.
He's a magnificent lyricist and vocalist in my view, with a magnificent voice.
You should watch Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan sing THE GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY.
You will see Dylan again in The Last Waltz.
Both of you thank you. Another song about Hurricane Carter telling the true story of this poor guy. Such an injustice and prosecution.
Absolutely loved it, great pick

Yes @chickmcgee1000, I was also a child when I first heard Bob Dylan. He has captivated me ever since.

Bob Dylan is a Nobel Prize Winner and the world's best songwriter. Lucinda Williams is an equal to him.

So much from Dylan is shared growing up maturity for my generation. This song big coming of age anecdotal.

Love watching you guy’s reactions. So much emotion in your faces. Awesome to see you enjoying the music I grew up on.
I’m amazed that you don’t know him. Please explore. He changed the world
A great talent. Plese react to more Chris Cornell. R.I.P.
Why far his best voice here on this tune but "Hurricane" is still my favorite Dyan tune.
"Hurricane" is one of my favourite songs 👍💚

Nashville Skyline is an excellent album.

Oh yes, “love to see you in the morning light, love to rich for you in the night “ just beautiful! Nashville Skyline is the name of the album.

Atypical Dylan. Atypical voice.
IN THE ALBUMS SELF PORTRAIT AND NASHVILLE SKYLINE LOOKS OTHER ARTIST CHANGE COMPLETELY HIS VOICE
Listen to the Jokerman by Dylan 👌
Check out another by Bob Dylan “things have changed”
There was a rumor that the song was written for a dog named 'Lady.' Whether or not it's true, it's such a gentle sentiment.
No it was written for barber strieland, the singer in the late 60s
Melanie does a haunting cover of this song.
I love the biting of the lower lip lady..
