Futurist August 2017

I was inside the Futurist in August 2017 doing some contractor work, and I couldn't believe it. It's in fantastic condition. This theatre could be fully restored again and instead Scarborough Borough Council are knocking it down, risking a catastrophic cliff collapse. Lives could be lost. Madness!!

THIS THEATRE NEEDS SAVING!!! It is a no brainer, brought up to date....acts/shows/performers/bands etc will come = many visitors to our fabulous town....ALL YEAR ROUND!!!

I have just viewed this video and am amazed at the condition of the Futurist's auditorium and also the Projection Box and the condition of the equipment. I believe there may still be a possibility of the theatre being saved from demolition and would urge any Scarborians or friends of Scarborough who have fond memories of the Futurist to lodge an objection with Scarborough Borough Council as soon as possible as I understand that the Council intend to ratify its decision to demolish at the next full Council meeting.

Why not turn this building over to Friends of the Futurist who want to save it? Look at the example of Shanklin Theatre on the Isle of Wight, run as a not for profit community interest company.

i can understand why it had to go. The seats are ok but the rest of it has all the charm of a prison. It needed huge levels of investment that the market simply could not justify.
