- UPDATE from 2022. Some of the footage from this video was used by Channel 5 in the show Jane MacDonald :My Yorkshire. I even got my name listed on the end credits
Back in the box of my Dad's cinefilm reels and this time its footage from a visit to Scarborough, some time before 1972.
Footage includes driving in, an afternoon on the beach and then the naval battle re-enactment in Peasholm park.

Choked me up watching this I remember being there about that time when a nipper with my mam dad grandparents. All gone now but they were some of the happiest days of my life spent at Scarborough
I felt the same. There is something about those days that has gone forever, and I wish I could go back, just for a day.
@@huskyfrank9058I agree. What I would give up to go back and visit. I will always see Scarborough through rose tinted glasses.
My first holiday without my parents was in Scarborough in 1972. I went on my motorbike. I had such a good time I went the year after with a couple of mates.
Last time I went to scarborough was back in the 70's, we used to holiday there every year when I was a kid, But now in my 60's I look back at thoughs times and wish I was still there OH Happy Times.
Just how I remember it as a kid in the 70s. Great memories!
Im so glad I experienced that carefree era, without the oppressive supervision we suffer today
Omg I was born in Scarborough in 72...this totally brought back tuns of memories especially battle of the river plate at peasholm Park...almost in tears...thank you so much for posting
Ive moved to Scarborough in my 40s and love it best thing i did
How very beautiful.. if I could invent a time machine, I would most definitely travel bacteria to these times . Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful footage xx
I am glad you enjoyed the video and more thanks should go to my Dad for filming the clips and allowing me to upload them.
The walks in peasolme park when everything was lit up was a grear memory..great times ..a lifetime ago
That "Treewalk" was fantastic - but they closed it in the 1990s because of Vandals and have never re-built it
@@ianrogerburton1670 hi I remember the tree walk but cant find any footage of it
Such lovely, evocative footage. It takes me right back to blissful summer holidays with my Auntie Chris. I would have been about 4 when your dad filmed this. I miss those days, and this footage has a bittersweet flavour. Thank you for posting this.
Many a brilliant family holiday with my mum and dad, 1st week of August, always stayed at the same bed and breakfast every year, the couple owned the st Ann's b&b , then moved down the road and ran the Curzon. Always remember running with my mum and dad trying to make sure we got the last tram up the cliff , because it was hell of a climb up if you missed it 🤣🤣. Happy times 🙂
I was on holiday there about the same time. Great to see old footage of Scarborough !
Brings back some incredibly happy memories.
Amazing Rare Footage of The North Bay Railway. Absolutely incredible
Worked their in the 70s and my brother married a Scarborough girl nice and friendly people. ❤️❤️❤️best time of my life
I remember a magical tree walk that was near where the naval battles took place but theres no footage of it on youtube that I can find
I remember that from the 90's. Fairy glen if my memory is correct and it had a half buried old rover car part of the way around.
@@AstonishingGlasgow I would love to see it again it was fantastic
@@AstonishingGlasgow there was also a decent hedge maze there too
Many thanks. We used to go to Scarborough every Spring Bank holiday for the Week. This was a works week. We were in sheffield. The next work weeks were in August. We went to Devon for those. I have very fond memories of Scarborough. Thanks for reviving them.
I was 11 years old in the early 70s great memories of Scarborough
That wee girl will probably be 58 years old like me now we love Scarborough too greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Would you believe I'm in Scotland too? This was cinefilm my Dad took on a weekend trip from Glasgow to Scarborough in the 60's.
@@AstonishingGlasgow on a good day non stop from Larkhall it takes four and a half hours to get to the B and B in Columbus ravine in Scarborough
What a beautiful place, it is my favorite place since I was a kid in the 70's, I would move there tomorrow If I could
This is wholesome and lovely.. lived here 25 years and long for these days bygone
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this. Both my parents came from Yorkshire and my Dad was born in Scarborough. They retired there in 1984 but have sadly long since passed away. My favourite holidays as a kid were in Scarborough in 1968 and 1973. Unfortunately we hadn´t yet got a cine-camera, so I´m really happy to see this. Your music is also spot on ! Once again, many thanks !
This film is the same age as me! It's amazing to see so much of the seafront remains the same to this day, if a little bit faded now. Thanks for sharing this.
My Mam & Dad had a caravan on Dennis's caravan site in the late 60's and up to about 1975/6 I think I grow up there , great place and I took my family there and my grand kids go now..
I remember Scarborough at that time when my dad took us to see the naval battle enjoyable holidays, thanks for sharing this great video.
The last time I visited Scarborough was on a day trip from York well over 15 years ago. I was highly delighted to see that the Naval battle is still staged. It brought back a lot of childhood memories... thanks for sharing this. Gordon Taylor, Scotland.
Thanks for this fabulous nostalgia trip. Scarborough had so much going for it back then. Its a shell of a town now as most of the fabulous attractions are long gone. Shame as the town has so much potential.
Happy days as a kid ..... where have 50 years gone !
I remember seeing Ken Dodd as a child at the Futurist theatre in the early 70s. I also remember a lot of my holiday spent in Corrigans much to my parents disgust whilst they sat on the beach in deckchairs. I recall cheering and booing at the Naval battle which was always a holiday treat. What a great video and brought back a lot of my childhood memories thank you.
Great memories of visiting Scarborough with my Mum and Dad when i was a boy...
Was just reading James Herriot’s “My Yorkshire”, he was in Scarborough during his R.A.F. and later many vacations. Curious about this place, glad to have come across such a personal share. Thank you 🙏🏼
The Donkeys! The Corona! Peaseholme Park! This brings back so many memories of a simpler time. Loved Scarborough back then. I pestered my parents to go every year to Scalby Mills caravan site. I used to wander down to watch the naval battles, though my dad was alwasy too tight to let me try the watersplash. One year my dad was on a works conference there and as a perk got a free pass for the little train. Well that was it, I was up and down all holiday, just flipped the seat back the other way and off for another trip, the driver was most amused. Another memorable year we got a pitch overlooking the sea. I didnt want to leave. I'm off now to try and find a video of the Hispaniola or Marineland.
Thank-you so much for sharing this, makes me emotional, such beautiful memories of my childhood every year going to Scarborough with my parents. We stayed in a chalet up the hill, got knocked down made into houses. Can't remember what it was called? 😇😪
Collies ?
Stayed at the Gai Logis B&B with the lovely Bedfords. Met Jimmy Cricket on the beach there in 1989.Also met Bobby Davro back stage and saw Cannon and Ball.Great times.Scarboro has gone to the dogs now sadly.
Scarborough is my home town but I live in Scunthorpe now I miss it so much ❤️😔
Ahh i remember the tree walk xx
That was fantastic - but they closed it in the 1990s because of Vandals and have never re-built it.
Amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Came to the channel for the Scotland Street video and realised you seem to have captured my formative years on your channel, just need to throw in Ravenscraig (I know not really Glasgow). Our entire family would decamp to Scarborough after the Glasgow fair (contractors so busy time for my old man), take over the Bydand guest house up near the cricket ground and scroll through the list: Atlantis Water Park, the water chute, Its a Knockout at the open air theatre, Peasholm Park, miniature railway, Marvels Amusement Park, the Futurist Theatre for the big name comedy act at the time and many a visit to the working mens clubs (not bad for a kid still in primary school). Highlight for me was the naval battle, have to admit we spent most of our time in the North Bay with only a couple of trips a visit to the South Bay which generally involved a walk along to the Spa and lido.
Had a look at going back and taking the little one, but all that is left is the water chute and miniature railway, North bay does not even have its funicular railway lifts anymore. Still no one to blame but ourselves, chicken and egg, did we stop going because the attractions dropped or did the attractions drop as we stopped going.....
Hello I'm a scarborian.was 6 in 1972.sadly the town is not what it once was.
Sadly, I´m also not the person I used to be.
Scene 1 at Scarborough, what a club ❤❤❤
Seen the naval battle so many times. Such a unique aspect of the park. The traffic on the foreshore road today it so bad. I wish they would close it during busy months.
This made me tear up!
Hopefully in a warm and fuzzy way and not in a bad way?
Remember visiting wallis holiday camp in the late 1970,s
Also still remember the guy from teesside who to use to think he was john travolta with his cap sleeve t shirt and brushed back hair..what a bellend..
❤❤❤❤
Great
The fact that most of the kids that lived in the 1970s are gonna be 50/60 years old now is shocking
Yes but most are young at heart like me 😁
This generation is going to be missed..
Not shocking but invigorating ! Just think of it: 60 years of HAPPY MEMORIES !
Good old times
I want to see old videos of scarborough Ontario Canada. My home on lake ontario.
Seems like almost everything was better in the 70s.
SADLY THE FUTRIST THEATRE HAS LONG GONE THANKS TO SCARBOROUGH COUNCIL PRATTS
