The Ontario quality control on those things is absolutely foul though. I’ve never owned and ESEE, so I can’t say anything about their QC, but Ontario’s has gone down over the years.

I could be wrong but to my knowledge A2 steel is about 5% chromium. I don't think you can get a spark off it with a flint.

I have 3 esee's that died in my house fire over a year ago.... I would never send them in. If they broke during use i would without hesitation, but my esee 6 batoned hundreds of oak logs for my stove and never rolled or chipped. I kept my edge more obtuse because it was primarily a wood splitter. Esee knives really are tough as nails.. probably tougher.

The Kukri looks nice, I like the handle, but the blade looks a little thin. More of a recurved mini-machete.
I know good steels are expensive, so it would be wild to see it made in a good steel and keep it under $600.

1065/1095 isnt a bad steel. It really comes down to the heat treat which Esse is known for.
I “personally” would like to see them expand on their variety.
The good news is I’m entitled to have an opinion that may be different than yours.

Ordered 3 not cheap Kukri from Nepal (spent over $500) and was very disappointed. While the steel looked great, the handles and sheaths were badly made and falling apart when they arrived. I had purchased these as Christmas gifts and didn't have an option of trying to return them.
