- Опубліковано 9 лип 2022
- Today I'm so excited to expand my Mini Gouache Painting series with these two easy summer flower paintings. These flower paintings use almost the same colors, so you can easily achieve them in one painting session, or just choose the one that speaks to you more. ^^ The first one will have some bright sunflowers and the second painting will be overall darker with some light roses to balance things out.
If you decide to paint either one of these mini gouache paintings, let me know how it went for you! ^^ I really hope you'll get to sit down and have a relaxing painting session for yourself ❤

Love these gouache tutorials, Anna. The layering is fun to watch because there's a single moment when you add one layer where the whole painting just comes alive and jumps off the page. It's magical in a way. Keep the tutorials coming. The background music was so relaxing.
I drew the one with sunflowers it turned a bit bad but no problem! It's my first time painting I got my gouache set from my family in my birthday! It's so fun Im a bit bad at painting but I'm still proud of myself I was a bit to excited but I will start watching your gouache painting tutorials and drew more my family liked it and Im so happy thank you! I will do the rose next I will continue learning!
Thank you, this is the most fun I've had painting florals with gouache!
I really appreciate you explaining the things you're doing. It helps to know why I'm doing something while painting rather than just copying! Great video!
Thank you so much for saying that! I'm so glad to hear that the explanation is helpful. It's sometimes so difficult to consider what is too much or too little explaning, haha
I loved doing the sunflower one.
Oooo a gouache tutorial! I just received a gouache set for my birthday a few days ago and have been having a lot of fun painting so far. Your painting videos have helped me A LOT, so I'm really excited to see what I can learn from this video! :D

Haha thank you! 😄 It definitely looks easier in the video, when everything is speeded up and so on.
So satisfying ❤ stress relieving for me ❤❤❤love them 💕 ❤️
Awww thank you so much!! 🥰
Love your tutorial very simple and clear
Thank you so much! 🥰❤️
I'm working my way through your tutorials and painting a stack of cards which have been waiting just for this. I've always struggled with painting flowers, but I'm surprised and happy with how my sunflower field turned out - it will make a nice Easter card. My roses however need more practice - you made it look so easy! I enjoyed painting the leaves anyway, and I might try that one again 😊.
Ohh that's wonderful! Thank you so much! 😍 I think very often the key to painting flowers is keeping it simple, but I know from experience that it's easier said than done 😅 I'm sure you can figure it out eventually!! 🥰
I think that your very good and I will enjoy them
Beautiful! Thanks so much for the tutorial! I wanted to start painting with gouache, but I was a little nervous. Now I feel more confident to start! Thanks! :)

@@JournalAway of course! enjoy the rest of your weekend ♡
Wowo amazing
Thank you so much! 🤍
Nice
I really like gouache painting than water colour, but gouache is rare and more pricey in my country, glad that you make this tutorial. So if someday i can afford it, at least i know what to do.
Oh, that's surprising to hear! I feel like watercolors can be very expensive here and the difference in quality is much more noticable than in gouache paints. I really hope you'll be able to find some cheaper gouache paints one day! ❤️
One question, do you add a bit water when mixing / applying your gouache to your work paper?
Wow this is stunning and it looks so effortless! How is your yellow so opaque? My gouache set is pretty watery, so I’m wondering if I need a nicer pallet?
Aww thank you for saying that! ❤️ It rarely feels effortless in real life, though 🤣
I had the same problem with my old gouache set so I do think that switching to higher quality paints might help. However, before doing that, I'd make sure that you're using enough paint and only the tiniest necessary amount of water. It took me a while to get used to the amount of paint that's necessary for opaque layers!
I love you💗
I love you too!! ❤️
Super beautiful :-}
Thank you so much! 🥰
Hi! I really enjoyed doing it. Only when I painted the sunflowers I couldnt find a yellow with substance, and the green transpired. I didnt use a single drop of water 😢. Is this maybe because of the material's quality (the gouache painting tubes). Thanks!
Ohh that can sometimes happen! I think the quality of the paints definitely affect the opacity. You could try to add a white layer first and then apply the yellow on top of it. It can help to prevent the background colors showing trough 😊
thank you!!

🙂🤗
So very pretty. I am such a beginner but am giving it a try. Can you please advise what type brushes…the minimum are needed to learn? I especially have trouble with thin lines. What is a good liner brush? Thank you!
I'd say that 95% of the time I use round brushes size 4 and 6, flat brush size 6 or 8 and a fine detailing brush. I like to use those tiny detailing brushes for fine lines and the sizes are usually marked as 2/0 or 3/0 which is smaller than size 0. With gouache, watercolor brushes work well! 😊 So if there are no dedicated gouache brushes, look for something that is meant to be used with watercolors.
@@JournalAway Thank you very much. That is so helpful to me. I look forward to trying more of your tutorials.
are you letting it dry at all in between the different layers?
I usually mention in the videos when I let the whole thing completely dry before continuing! :) Some details don't need extra drying time or if you work on different parts of the painting, it's enough time for the other parts to dry. But usually I have a small break between the background and starting with details.
Can I reconstitute my colours in the palette with water after they've dried??
Yes, I do it all the time but I find it quite difficult if the colors are very old (to the point of cracking). Sometimes it might also be difficult to get pigmented paints if you revive them.
@JournalAway
Great!! So I will just add a drop of colour instead!
😍💖🌟✨
can I ask did you add any water to the paints?
Yes I do! With gouache, I add much less than with watercolors, but you'll notice that the consistensy of the paints is way too dry (and leaving dry brush marks) if there is not enough water.
thought this was like a beginner tutorial but feels more like you should know how to paint in the first place. My leaves look like a mess and my flowers looked like random blobs circles. No instructions on how to even do the flower and why colour was placed where :(
Awww I'm sorry you felt like that :(
If it makes you feel any better, I think that creating a succesful painting right from the start sounds absolutely impossible to me (it surely wasn't the case with my first painting trials, haha). I'd advise you to just play with the paints freely and try different things to get the feel for it first. Learning the correct water/paint -ratio and training hand-eye-coordination takes some practice and it's very difficult to teach. And when it comes to painting flowers and leaves, there're countless of ways to do it and what I showed in the video is not the only way.
People have very different approaches to painting and mine is quite easy-going, which is why I sometimes struggle to explain what I did exactly and why. Sometimes you just go with the flow and do what you feel like the painting needs, and it's also a skill that develops overtime :)
Why do you always mix colors in the same compartment? Wouldn't old paint there cause the new color to be off or is it an intended technique?
Whenever I can, I simply like to use the bigger compartment for mixing, haha 😄 I don't really care too much if there's a little bit of old color underneath if I'm going darker or using similar tones (in these paintings many of the green colors are created mixing the same few paints so in that case using the old paint is intended). However, if you want to work with a completely different color or keep a tone very bright (like the yellow and red in this video), it should be mixed in a new cleaner place to avoid muddy tones.
@@JournalAway Thanks a lot!
Does gouache dry fast?
Super love your work
I'd say that it dries fairly fast 😄 You'll need to wait a bit between layers, but gouache painting in general uses less water than watercolors so the paper doesn't get soaked in the same way
What paper do you use for best results
