I know he threw that last pitch on purpose to say to umpire look idiot is this a strike slowing it down enough for him to call it right... Only the batter wasn't in on it and spanked it over left field wall lol.... Love your videos bro
This video just reminds me how much BETTER umpiring is today as compared to the 80s and early 90s. Back then, umps just made up whatever they felt like. If it was a cold day, they had a giant strike zone. if it was a tied game going into the ninth, they shrank the zone for the visiting team to help them score a run, then enlarged the zone for the home team to make it almost impossible for them to tie it up. If the visiting team didn't score with the big zone, they gave the big zone to the home team, hoping THEY would score a run…no extra innings at any cost. The umps rarely called a strike if the ball was two inches above the waist, but they called low and outside balls strikes all the time. Anything to get an out, and get back to the hotel. Certain players had smaller zones than others. Wade Boggs had a tiny zone. Frank Thomas had no top to his zone…waist down only…..When Don Mattingly got up, he took the first pitch every time, and thump would call it a strike no matter where it was. don didn't complain, and he just hit the next pitch wherever it was….This was when he was young and unbelievable with the bat….
Agreed. Very well spoken. So I see what you’re coming from, but if you look at this equation: 𝑊𝜓=−ℏ22𝑚𝑑2𝜓𝑑𝑥2+12𝑚𝜔2𝑥2𝜓 It just changes everything. I think Schrödinger solves the Krabby Patty formula and the government is hiding it from us.
I grew admiring Glavine and Maddux. First couple of innings they would paint the outside edge, by the 4th or 5th, they were getting called strikes 4-6” off the plate!! Especially Glavine with the best change up ever!
Perfect evidence as to why we need an automated strike zone and get rid of the home plate umpire. The other 3 umps can remain since there’s replay challenges and all that now. Yes, umpires are human and all humans make mistakes, but balls and strikes is something that CANNOT be called incorrectly, especially as bad as some of them are
Why are umpires even out there ?.. dosent the league know that computers can do a better job 100% of the time.. who know the countless amount of money these players have been fined for reacting to a rookie mistake.. frustrating
I think an automated strikezone would be great. 1) It would be more fair. There wouldn't be any random advantages given to one team over another. The outcome would actually be reliant on the players skills alone 2) It would save a lot of needless drama, and therefore time as well.
Cole James Some sports already use automation and the players still argue. It doesn’t change anything. Umpires are part of the game and some things should stay the same.
@@kevinbeazy - can you give an example? and it absolutely does change things. An automated strike zone (assuming it's done correctly) would have a 100% accuracy on balls/strikes. That makes competition more pure, and leaves no room for opinion and thus all the arguing/whining/drama we see now about balls and strikes. I think that sounds nice.
Kris Bryant’s pitch..hit his spot..was called for years, but with the postage stamps that MLB wants called,today..it’s technically a ball. Watch old games..great pitch. The pitch to manny..two,strikes too close to take. Tori hunters pitch was right there.
@@jaydesrochers3276 I mean pitcher's have become so dominant that nowadays if umpires were calling that pitch a strike the batting average would be like 0.100 MLB has made several adjustments over the years to try to balance hitters and pitchers (mound distance, mound height, DH rule, etc) and this is no different. It's necessary in my opinion to keep the game alive.
BigBlueBear I don’t think pitchers are dominant. Batters aren’t really smart is the problem..they swing for the fences with two strikes, never want to go the other way, never choke up..in other words only care about the long ball..if they removed questec, and that silly box from your screen, and went back to calling pitches off the plate strikes, batters would be forced to slap the outside pitch the other way, and wouldn’t be looking for walks..it would also reduce the time of game. It has a huge impact..my speech is over!
2018 ALCS was rigged. Game 3 HR by Altuve that was called out and the ball was never in mookie's glove on a crucial series turning game. Should have been a ground rule double at least. Then that shit that you showed in game 5. No doubt the Red Sox were a great team last year but there were plenty of plays that were questionable throughout the playoffs for them.
David S it was very clear that the fans interfered in that play. Mookie would have caught that if the fan did not put his hand in front of his glove which caused the glove to close. Just another salty Astros fan

James Phony that’s one of the stupidest arguments I’ve ever heard
That Joe Nathan pitch being called a strike was crazy. Even Nathan said “wow.” Umpires used to do the same thing to David Ortiz and Barry Bonds.
So if I can see the box on TV what's the point of having an umpire since a computer program can call the game at the batters box
miguel. There is a delay in the tv program that allows people to make the call and if that was in real life it would practically double the time it takes to play the game. No hate just trying to explain
Muh tradition.
Because that computer program doesn’t know when it’s 9-1 in the 7th inning!
@@majorleagueblitzball7742 just have one of the review guys in new york watch the footage live with the strike zone box, and have him tell the ump what the call is, would only waist like 1-2 seconds per call lol which the batter takes to get ready anyway
The strike zone expands and contracts based on the height of the batter. It's not a static box like on TV.
2:50 hi I’m Rick Harrison, and this is my strike zone.
3:50
God I hate that shit!!!
I’m a fan of neither team, but Verlander got completely screwed! Home run should have never happened!
That's what I'm saying
Those always irritate me the most, because undeserved home runs like that can be game-changing (not to say he didn't crush the ball, but the at-bat should have already been over).
Permayonnaise take away that homer Sox still win the game🤷🏻♂️
@@jeffkuzoian5951 that's true, but this scenario has played out many more times than in just that game
@@jeffkuzoian5951 its called changing the momentum of the game
Paul Molitor not pushing Torii away initially shows you the respect he had in that clubhouse. Love to see that kind of stuff.
Umpires need to be accountable for missed calls.
They do
That pitch to Gardner was framed perfectly.
1:00 growing up is not so tough exept when you've had enough im cauiou
im a red sox fan but the verlander on jd was insane
illicit Hybrid same here, I agree
LOL the one guy should of struck out 0-3 but gets BS and then the next pitch the guy hits a HOME RUN 😂😂😂
That first strikeout was HORRIBLE! It wasn't even close to a strike, and everyone knew it. Except the umpire.
if kris bryant is pissed at you then you know you did something wrong
That Verlander one still grinds my gears. You couldn't possibly throw a better curveball.
Aaron Judge is getting the same type of pitches called as Ortiz in this video.
The 1st clip the pitcher was thinking ‘ah f***!’ Then realized the ump called it a strike haha
Now they know how literally every single kid who plays baseball feels
JJwillz2 facts this happened to me yesterday one got the dirt and it was a strike the next almost hit my neck and it was a strike
Oh my Lord!! That first one was INSANE!! I'd blown a gasket...or 3!!
Dont care who you are...with 2 strikes you gotta protect the zone.
I agree on maybe one or two of these but most are easy takes or not hit able, and plus nowadays you get paid millions of dollars to strikeout 150+ times as long as you hit 20+ home runs
It's still weird to Justin V, outside of a Detroit uniform. Great video mate keep up the great work :)
Look at J.D's swing at 4:10
4:13-4:15
Dat follow through doe. It's fluent as hell.
It’s a beauty isn’t it?
That first pitch was nasty. THAT'S a curveball
One time a strike was called on a ball that was at the level of my face. I was pissed...
Did you get ejected?
@@nickr4015 No I my cool for the most part but I so mad.
One time, there was a ball at my face, and it was called a strike. Next pitch, it was in the same spot and was called a ball. Tf? 😂
When the pitcher says "wow" to a called strike, that's when you know you've fucked up.
These stuck up “Mr. Perfect” MLB umpires need to take criticism, especially the one that threw out Torii Hunter.
KCRoyals24 It’s a rule and the players know it. You can’t argue balls and strikes.
Kevin B. I know that it’s a rule, it’s that some of them don’t admit their mistakes and that they’re “perfect”
KCRoyals24 Being perfect has nothing to do with it. They’re making calls at the split second.
Kevin B. And they suck
Honestly, of all these calls, the one Torii was probably the closest one. That was a 50-50 ball for an umpire. The rest of these were atrocious calls in comparison
Hey Wes love your videos bro... I'm in Austin TX.... Dude I normally don't comment much but damn that Houston vs Boston ALDS where that Verlander no call strike 3 then subsequently a next pitch Homer with him hanging a breaker over strike zone was bullshit .... I remember watching that live and not a fan of either team but a fan of the game but I was yelling like most people were at my TV when that happened... I know he threw that last pitch on purpose to say to umpire look idiot is this a strike slowing it down enough for him to call it right... Only the batter wasn't in on it and spanked it over left field wall lol.... Love your videos bro
How maddox Smoltz and glavine made their living.
And they got a taste of their own medicine in that ridiculous 1997 NLCS K zone remember?
Jeez the 90's K zone was awful.

So I see what you’re coming from, but if you look at this equation: 𝑊𝜓=−ℏ22𝑚𝑑2𝜓𝑑𝑥2+12𝑚𝜔2𝑥2𝜓
It just changes everything. I think Schrödinger solves the Krabby Patty formula and the government is hiding it from us.
You bet your sweet fucking ass
2:43 Careful Ortiz, that ump just might have a gun.
Torii Hunters is arguably fair.
I grew admiring Glavine and Maddux. First couple of innings they would paint the outside edge, by the 4th or 5th, they were getting called strikes 4-6” off the plate!! Especially Glavine with the best change up ever!
First! Do Tal’s Hill Catches!
A few more good arguments for the electronic strike zone!

Go home bro, 2-2 protect the plate. Too close to take
O Schill yeah that’s strike 3
@@matthewbruce4988
All day. And I like Gardiner
That smug smirk by Kulpa after tossing Ortiz, one of the more beloved players of the 21st century, just is so frustrating.
And then you look at what he did to the Astros earlier this year, why the hell is this guy still in the league
He pissed off a big man that could do nothing at the time, another time, another place would be different!!
Should be an Angel Hernandez sucks highlight video
Perfect evidence as to why we need an automated strike zone and get rid of the home plate umpire. The other 3 umps can remain since there’s replay challenges and all that now. Yes, umpires are human and all humans make mistakes, but balls and strikes is something that CANNOT be called incorrectly, especially as bad as some of them are
The AL umps are awful.
Glad I follow the NL.
3:57 I'm a Boston fan so I'm very happy then he drives it deep some also very happy
Umps have entirely too much power and super thin skin. Bad combo. Power trips are a dime a dozen by these guys.
Since when did they start throwing players out of the game so easily?
2:50 I’m Rick Harrison, and this is my pawn shop.
Why are umpires even out there ?.. dosent the league know that computers can do a better job 100% of the time.. who know the countless amount of money these players have been fined for reacting to a rookie mistake.. frustrating
David Loera Because they are part of the game.
David Loera yeah that would suck! It would take away from the game not add
I think an automated strikezone would be great.
1) It would be more fair. There wouldn't be any random advantages given to one team over another. The outcome would actually be reliant on the players skills alone
2) It would save a lot of needless drama, and therefore time as well.
"Oh you didn't like that strike 2 call? Check this one out..."
the commentary you make pisses me off
Is there anything more terrifying in baseball than an angry David Ortiz?
Some were actually correct. It doesn’t matter where the catcher catches the ball.
Which one(s) did you think are correct?
Kris Bryant’s pitch..hit his spot..was called for years, but with the postage stamps that MLB wants called,today..it’s technically a ball. Watch old games..great pitch. The pitch to manny..two,strikes too close to take. Tori hunters pitch was right there.
@@jaydesrochers3276 I mean pitcher's have become so dominant that nowadays if umpires were calling that pitch a strike the batting average would be like 0.100
MLB has made several adjustments over the years to try to balance hitters and pitchers (mound distance, mound height, DH rule, etc) and this is no different.
@@jaydesrochers3276 That's fair enough. The best answer is probably somewhere in the middle of our two stances haha
"The helmet toss will cost him money " what a joke he got screwed twice.
Tori hunters was a strike though 😂😂
Wow. That last one Twins vs Yankees. Perfect strike.
I dont watch or like baseball but the first one was just BS.
Even these pitchers are like “Jesus wow”!
Not an Astros fan. I was just rooting for them in that series. The fans weren't reaching over the wall. Mookie was reaching into the stands. What do you expect is going to happen? Every fan is going to reach for the ball if it's in the stands. The ball is coming at 80+ mph, you have to try and stop it plus its a playoff HR ball! Ground rule double at worst. The ball was never in his glove.
David S i have a graphic that shows the line separating the fans and the field and hes i the field with the fans hand reaching over
It does not matter if the ball is in the glove. It only matters if he would have likely caught the ball if the fan was not reaching over the wall
That is the most subjective BS ever and you know it. The call would depend on the umpire. And what do you know shitty Joe West made the call. Bad call with a bad umpire.
3:00 That ump probably just crapped his pants after Ortiz confronted him. I now I’d be scared.
wow this compilation of angel hernandez is cool!
That call on Zobrist will never stop getting my blood boiling. Not even a Rays fan (now, I have to, because they're becoming the Expos), but holy shit. It's just so obviously a ball. And the fact that it was the call that ended the game.
2:50 "I'm Rick Harrison, and this is my ballpark."
3:06 little mookie looks scared of big papi lol
The thing Gardner did with the bat and his helmet was pretty cool
Even the pitchers like "wow".
