Terrible interviewer who’s just reading his questions. Not a conversationalist for sure, Robin was very open and friendly as per usual. But the interviewer is a JOKE!
I spoke to robin on the phone once. We had a long and fun conversation about Hendrix and his activities as a producer. Back then I was festival organizer of the Jimi Hendrix Music Festival
This is the first time I've ever heard Robin trower speaking and I appreciate this video so much because I've learned not to listen to rumours and rice young always heard that Robin trower was very arrogant but he seemed to be quite the opposite; and in fact he seems extremely humble considering that he is one of the greatest guitarist of all time as well as one of the most gifted songwriters.
Awesome interview. I love the Broken Barricades lp. Robin's work on that was amazing. I listen to that lp at least once a week. Never gets old. Rock on Mr. Trower!! 🎸🏁😎👍
My brother turned me onto Robin back in the 70s and been jamming to him ever since. Played Too Rolling Stoned in a band and we rocked it. Robin taught me a lot about playing guitar. Freestyling jamming is the only way. He's on top! Thanks Robin!
Robin hits the nail on the head when he says:(paraphrased) "In the 60's the musicians just wanted to make music because they liked making music, but in the 80's the kids just wanted to be rock stars". These days it's obviously even worse, you really have to search for real music.
His first two solo albums were perfect. Robin is one of the greatest guitarist of all time. Rohin not being in the Hall of Fame says more about the failing of the Hall. The most underrated musician i have ever come across, he is my favorite all time. I feel every word and every note played, truly a legend.
He is a class act no doubt. You had a big influence on my style Robin, especially the hand vibrato which takes many years of practice and playing to develop correctly. Thanks so much and I'm glad you are still tearing up the guitar. Cheers from North West Georgia , Bluesville.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to him by the older gentleman in our neighborhood when I was about 16-17 and I couldn't believe I'd not heard of him before because I was already listen to led Zeppelin Pink Floyd etcetera
One of the coolest guys I’ve ever met, and, of course, my favorite guitarist.Like Cream, there was an awful lot of fantastic music coming from three people.R.I.P. Jimmy and Reg.
What a wOnDeRfULL Career, and a Fantastic collection of musical contributions that span many years from Robin. He hit the nail on the head AT 14:21 Just seen him on this last tour-- Robin's Still Rockin' and Bobbin' along!!!
Re the interviewer...the original intention was probably for the questions to be posed as captions without the interviewer being heard. They probably were used in that format someplace, but this is obviously the original recording.
If the interviewer hadn't made the freakin tape, we'd have no video to watch today... I learned something from this one, I now have a reason to be grateful for Elvis.
Saw Mr Trower twice in 3 days, been a fan since the 70s. Hendrix? oh yeah. Loving the Felix the Cat t-shirt! Just a nice, quiet gentleman, played loud and smooth, didn't say much but was very thankful for the fans.
i think that everyone here is maybe misunderstanding the nature of this interview.. maybe it was originally intended to edit out the clumsily asked questions.. this is it in its raw state..
Andi Pandi The interviewer and girl were fans, just clumsy in their questions, seeming harsh. They asked a set list of questions, rather than intently listening and responded with more questions based on his answers. Robin was honest, cordial, kind, and pleasant the whole time. He revealed a lot.
that was a little surprising, the Tull, King Crimson, ELP comment, "in passing, I don't really like that kind of music". But, thinking about it, Trower was sort of in his own genre. That is what makes him special, but still, that comment, haha.
I’d like to say and hope Robin gets this, his second album along with certain songs on other albums, meaning bridge of sighs has never moved me so emotionally and transported me mentally without a drop of alcohol or drugs and and an affect that I feel four and a half decades later, instantly transports me and sends me into the ether with mental and physical feelings beyond words, so soulful and alive with emotion and mind blowing expansion with the ability to transport you to a moment in history in the first cord, this band could take you places as Pink Floyd’s dark side of the moon could, truly a timeless classic piece, in the top three heart and mind emotionally transfixed of all time, it was magic the first time I heard the bridge of sighs album with the most influential memories of my life, truly, I feel his music and James Dewars base vocals are an integral part, just plain magic that comes all too rarely, especially today. I could close my eyes in a dark room, listen and feel like I’d leave my body and soar through the cosmos, truly an album and music that you FEEL and emotionally, deep, it’s that Feel that’s so missing today in music. ATMOSPHERIC! Thank you for a life changing album.
Good lord, what was Robin thinking allowing this putz to interview him. The dope had no idea who he was talking to! After the, uh, interviewer (?) dropped the glass, I had to shut it down. Very painful except for Robin graciously allowing the questioning to continue
hey robin i saw you in 1973 tulsa fairgrounds oklahoma and again 2001 alb nm i always enjoyed your guitar playing thanks for being around jamie tulsa oklahoma
The interviewer - the questions - the environment - everything just wasn't very comfortable , then the lady asked Robin a question triggered his whole demeanor did a 180. Then I started to feel the interview
18:33 Yes it was Bobby Parker on Guitar and Vocals...Robin wasn't the only Guitar Legend that liked that song. Jimmy Page used the Main Riff on "Moby Dick"
Interrogator: "Answer the question, Mr. Trower! At any time in the 1970s, did you ever knowingly harm a Fender Stratocaster guitar?" Robin Trower: "You're damn right, I did! I murdered the fucking things! Next question".
I like his honesty...he doesn't like progressive rock, only liked the first Hendrix album, the best Procol album was the one they made before he joined, the reason Bridge of Sighs was such a big hit was that it was a really good album, lol. And yes, the interviewer sucked. It was like he was a 9th grader who only asked the questions he had written down on cards, and kept losing his place. The only interesting follow-up question was the one asked by the female. And whoever was working the camera shouldn't quit their day job.
This is painful to watch and it's all the fault of the interviewer. Robin himself is incredibly gracious throughout, and his answers to many of the silly questions are very interesting and informative. He's obviously a very good guy. Love his playing
+Doug Stamper A good interviewer asks questions but interacts in a way that keeps conversation going. A simple "blah blah?" "blah blah?" format is boring. Listening to this guy ask questions is cringe inducing.
No follow-up questions. Completely scripted and awkward (except for the woman). Mic placement was atrocious. Robin was gracious but obviously uncomfortable. And those curtains...
Trower Power! I was always hoping that he’d mention Tony iommi from Black Sabbath early stuff. Anyway I love robins music and saw him live here in Cleveland Ohio a few years back
mmmMmmmm got to add some more Mmmmmmm Bobby bland blues band, my favorite with bb king, what an acoustical joy at the purple cow Sarasota FL. Robin Tower, my King!
From what I’ve heard is that when Trower used to play Texas Stevie would open for Trower early on - so it’s my guess that Trower probably help shape some of Stevie’s Hendrix Blues mix since Trower had been doing it since the early 70’s. Would love to here him talk about those days
In the 60s we loved blues, it was bigger in England than the states at the time and everyone was playing their own version of the blues some added swing vibes others didn't. Everyone was just making music not trying to be stars.
Robin had some great opinions on just about everything. He was spot on about modern rock bands sounding and looking like plastic, manufactured like a television show looking glossy making music with no feeling. So true even today!!!
He sounds like a robot.. a good interviewer just chills and engages in good conversation.. the questions will come if you just be yourself and study the person obviously.. Robin Trower is a legend..
I believe the questions to be thought out, even w interest in their answers perhaps, but i don’t think that the interviewer heard Robin’s answers. Hence the redundancies. Those being critical of the one interviewing might consider trading places. Just saying. Maybe he’s a journalist (oh brother) and not an interviewer.
Interesting archive interview, but they should've let the lady conduct the whole thing. The guy was a stiff. Robin handled it like the pro that he is. Looked like he was ready to bolt.
I think this must have been for a tv show or music doc film. The way the questions are asked seems to be to get the most clear and basic answers. I'd imagine the questions would be edited out and you'd see robin as a "talking head" interview. Oh ya around 7:30 ish the interviewer mentions they're doing a show about prog rock.
Love his playing. But he could have played his cards with greater skill. In terms of his profile I mean. Very introverted. Cut off even. Stuck in the time warp of that last Hendrix gig. That's good or bad depending on your point of view. Seen him 3 times. Fabulous every time. 👍
I've seen Robin Thrower in concert 4 times. The odd thing is that he never speaks. I mean no "thank you" no "goodnight" no "thanks for coming" .... not a sound. It's kind of condescending, actually. Would it kill him to thank the crowd who cancelled plans, spent a small fortune on tickets and drove a long way to see him?
He says on Bridge Of Sighs he tried to put right the wrongs of of the first album, but I am drawn to Twice Removed From Yesterday more than the second album. I think the best tracks on the live album from 1976 are those from his first album. It's just a matter of personal taste. Terrible interviewer, I would love to have talked to him about his career and recordings. He stole the Reading Pop, Rock & Jazz Festival in August 1975, amazing show.
This inerview was hard to watch not because of Robin, but the guy interviewing was awful.Haved loved Robin's music since early '70's and still do.Robin and Frank Marino have been my favorites since the '70's,both much overlooked and underrated.
What a real nice guy and a great guitarist.
Probably the greatest 3 piece band I've ever heard. You can't hardly find a bass player that can sing as good as James Dewar.
He was awesome.
I’ll agree and throw in cream for obvious reasons.
...*as well*...but I knew what you meant and you're right
Gotta give Robin a lot of credit for his congeniality during this interview. It's like he's being interrogated by the gestapo!
...certainly is a little ..."ORDERS, ORDERS...WE WERE ONLY FOLLOWING ZEEEEE ORDERS!!!!...dude needs to lighten up a little...well, A LOT actually.
Shoulda give him a sock in the puss, he's a right git !!
Sounds like a school kid doing an interview and reading his prepared questions for the school project.

Awesome interview. I love the Broken Barricades lp. Robin's work on that was amazing. I listen to that lp at least once a week. Never gets old. Rock on Mr. Trower!! 🎸🏁😎👍
I know it's been time passed, but what a brutal interview. God Bless Robin's candor and a Gentleman, always.
My brother turned me onto Robin back in the 70s and been jamming to him ever since. Played Too Rolling Stoned in a band and we rocked it. Robin taught me a lot about playing guitar. Freestyling jamming is the only way. He's on top! Thanks Robin!
One of my favorite guitar players he’s on my top three, he is Number one 👏🏻
Robin hits the nail on the head when he says:(paraphrased) "In the 60's the musicians just wanted to make music because they liked making music, but in the 80's the kids just wanted to be rock stars". These days it's obviously even worse, you really have to search for real music.
Year check 2024
Living legend , always loved his playing from 1970's 2021 rock on!!
His first two solo albums were perfect. Robin is one of the greatest guitarist of all time. Rohin not being in the Hall of Fame says more about the failing of the Hall. The most underrated musician i have ever come across, he is my favorite all time. I feel every word and every note played, truly a legend.
Yes.....he truly is a nice gentlemen, I had the privilege of warming up for him at the Fillmore West
He is a class act no doubt. You had a big influence on my style Robin, especially the hand vibrato which takes many years of practice and playing to develop correctly. Thanks so much and I'm glad you are still tearing up the guitar. Cheers from North West Georgia , Bluesville.

Trower fan since '70 with Home. Got a Strat in '76 and he was and still is hugely influential.
Robin, you definitely made it and brought the depth and beauty of the guitar and blues to my life and millions more.
What a wOnDeRfULL Career, and a Fantastic collection of musical contributions that span many years from Robin. He hit the nail on the head AT 14:21 Just seen him on this last tour-- Robin's Still Rockin' and Bobbin' along!!!
This was also the point in the interview that had some substance added , the lady saved the interview from being a total Trainwreck !!!
what a nice bloke Robin is!
He needs to be inducted to hall of fame
Definitely.
He taught me how to apply finger vibrato. Thanks Robin!
Saw Mr Trower twice in 3 days, been a fan since the 70s. Hendrix? oh yeah. Loving the Felix the Cat t-shirt! Just a nice, quiet gentleman, played loud and smooth, didn't say much but was very thankful for the fans.
Robin's patient treatment of this clearly unprepared and clueless "interviewer" speaks volumes about the man.
I agree, but he's quite open about himself I really like that.
Robin Trower was more than gracious to continue talking to this incompetent interviewer.
+LA90004 i don't know, the interviewer don't seem like a proper fan, like i don't know how anyone could interview robin trower and not be real nervous!
i think that everyone here is maybe misunderstanding the nature of this interview.. maybe it was originally intended to edit out the clumsily asked questions.. this is it in its raw state..
@@tinfoilhatter The interviewer doesn't have to be a fan to interview someone...being a professional is more important.
@@mistamuthafuka sure, sure, yeah, if not a fan, professional would be good!
Andi Pandi The interviewer and girl were fans, just clumsy in their questions, seeming harsh. They asked a set list of questions, rather than intently listening and responded with more questions based on his answers. Robin was honest, cordial, kind, and pleasant the whole time. He revealed a lot.
Interviewer sound like he's reading questions off a grocery list and checking boxes. Not interacting. Cold
that was a little surprising, the Tull, King Crimson, ELP comment, "in passing, I don't really like that kind of music". But, thinking about it, Trower was sort of in his own genre. That is what makes him special, but still, that comment, haha.
Thank God the woman spoke up after about 14 minutes. The guy interviewing is utterly hopeless. She should have conducted the whole interview.
He's so Honest with his Shyte, I respect him for that!
Strange interviewer, but Robin endured it like a gentleman ;-)
Why was Bridge of Sighs so successful. "Because it was really good". exactly
That was a great answer. And it was a fact.
Love Robin👍🙂❤️
Good lord, what was Robin thinking allowing this putz to interview him. The dope had no idea who he was talking to! After the, uh, interviewer (?) dropped the glass, I had to shut it down. Very painful except for Robin graciously allowing the questioning to continue
hey robin i saw you in 1973 tulsa fairgrounds oklahoma and again 2001 alb nm i always enjoyed your guitar playing thanks for being around jamie tulsa oklahoma
My favorite songs by RT was when he would do slow solo's....like on "A tale untold" it touched me...very moody and beautiful.

Robin Trower: "You're damn right, I did!

THE ABSOLUTELY Hero of Guitars. ♥️
I agree: the interviewer sounds like an interrogator. Robin had every right to have totally blown off the interview.
I like his honesty...he doesn't like progressive rock, only liked the first Hendrix album, the best Procol album was the one they made before he joined, the reason Bridge of Sighs was such a big hit was that it was a really good album, lol. what you mean? he appeared in PH debut...
Wow i cant believe robin was at Jimmy's last concert. Jimmy's sounds will never die with robin around.
What's with the guy doing the interview? I mean he has got one of the BEST in front of him..ROBIN TROWER legend.
Interesting opinion of his - that the 60s were the end of an era rather than a start - a culmination of the 50s.
I had to stop after the second question. As much as I like Robin, I just didn't see it getting any better.
No follow-up questions. Completely scripted and awkward (except for the woman). Mic placement was atrocious. Robin was gracious but obviously uncomfortable. And those curtains...
I AGREE...Interviewed by HITLER
Right? The questions were just all over the place and some were just stupid and a lot that should've followed up on a few.
Trower Power! I was always hoping that he’d mention Tony iommi from Black Sabbath early stuff. Anyway I love robins music and saw him live here in Cleveland Ohio a few years back
Good to hear RT's love of Chicago blues, Otis Rush, Muddy Waters, etc.
Can’t sell the first BLT short, Robins collaboration was better for us than he feels about it.
mmmMmmmm got to add some more Mmmmmmm Bobby bland blues band, my favorite with bb king, what an acoustical joy at the purple cow Sarasota FL. Robin Tower, my King!
He has great tone 😊
I can never forgive myself, went to one of his show and was so drunk I didn't even look at Robin. It was in the 90's.
Super Legend!!! From Russia
Note to self:
Never wear a leather jacket to a cheap interview.
It would be more interesting if Robin were to interviewed by a robot.
I do wish the interviewer at asked Robin but he thought about Stevie Ray Vaughan, one of the other all-time greatest
From what I’ve heard is that when Trower used to play Texas Stevie would open for Trower early on - so it’s my guess that Trower probably help shape some of Stevie’s Hendrix Blues mix since Trower had been doing it since the early 70’s. Would love to here him talk about those days
Hey these were simple questions , they were good and Robin being regular guy we find ourselves going wow what " a normal person interview " ....
Sorry; I do wish the interviewer had asked Robin what he thought about Stevie Ray Vaughan
Very sensible.
I think it is rude to interview a Superstar like he was an unknown. Step up Robin! You are a legend! K
But again thanks a lot for this video
Love Robin's Devilish sweet smile. :)
It was Bobby Parker playing on the "Watch Your Step" record.
Jeez how uncomfortable with this guy. Robin is a Legend.
9.19 "Why do you think that album was better".
"BECAUSE I TRIED TO WRITE BETTER SONGS".....simplest fact ever.
He sounds like a robot.. a good interviewer just chills and engages in good conversation.. the questions will come if you just be yourself and study the person obviously.. Robin Trower is a legend..
Horrible. Horrible. Horrible interviewer… Robin, however, was a gem. Love him.
I saw the Bridge of Sighs tour Wings stadium...and later the In City Dreams tour At Wings Stadium....Styx opened for RT.
Glad to hear Trower's comments but the interviewer is robotic.
I believe the questions to be thought out, even w interest in their answers perhaps, but i don’t think that the interviewer heard Robin’s answers. Hence the redundancies. All i have to say is this London Fogger is great all around and hes even a nice chap despite of being in the music buisness...Robin we love ya!jam on!
Eternal
It sounds like the interviewer is a school kid reading his questions to RT for a special school project.
Good Boy~^^
Nice interrogation.
Sounds like a CIA interrogation, did he steal a guitar?
I thought his guitar style really excelled on the song "Playmate of the Mouth" from Broken Barricades, his last album with Procol Harum (1971).
His jacket sounds like grandma’s couch
The worst interviewer I have ever heard. The entire process was like an Inland Revenue interview when evasion is suspected. I really felt for Robin
👏👏👏👏🎸👍✊
Goooofy interviewer...sound like he just doing his job..lol
That was an older gentleman, not the older gentleman
I like his fit
Should of kept James Dewar as lead singer.
Seems more like an interrogation than a pleasant interview
This video does not appear to be produced in the 80s
Fritz the Cat T-shirt!
Love his playing. But he could have played his cards with greater skill. In terms of his profile I mean. Very introverted. Cut off even. Stuck in the time warp of that last Hendrix gig. That's good or bad depending on your point of view. Seen him 3 times. Fabulous every time. 👍
The interviewer sounds like he's doing community service, to avoid jail time.
Bobby Parker WAS the guitar player on his own stuff..
How not to interview a rock star.
My phone sucks
I've seen Robin Thrower in concert 4 times. The odd thing is that he never speaks. I mean no "thank you" no "goodnight" no "thanks for coming" .... not a sound. It's kind of condescending, actually.
