SummerNav - Western Springs 2024

Western Springs is an urban wildlife area in central Auckland - once a swamp, then a lake providing Auckland's drinking water, now a location to enjoy a beautiful walk. Bordering to the NW is the Auckland Zoo, to the NE is Western Springs Speedway and SE is MOTAT - the Museum of Transport and Technology. A great place for orienteering, but the southeast corner is a nightmare of gardens, paths and small lakes and is very challenging to maintain map contact at speed. My son planned these courses and even though I helped edit them, he got me with multiple changes in direction and I messed up a few times.
Course 2 - 5.1 km, 22 controls - Race 13 of Auckland Orienteering Club's annual summer orienteering season and a local favourite for orienteering - Thanks to James and Dave for setting the course, and AOC for organising.
