- before archelon's release, i noticed some talking about a modded server running an older version of BoB so i decided to give it a try. needless to say, it was quite a cool look back. since then, ive been keeping tabs on how it continues as it picks up in popularity... and well... its been interesting to say the least lol.
the devs have also been keeping a close eye on this server as well and misbehavior happening on this server has not been very helpful in their case as what they have been doing is very against ToS :/ i did not stay on long because of this so i dont have much footage of this server, im sorry!
...but this situation does beg the question, would you play on a proper legacy server if they were to ever happen? if not let me know in the comments why as i love to read everyone's opinions :) thank you for the support!
We're more than happy to allow legacy servers so long as they operate within our Terms of Service. In the past, legacy servers have gotten shut down because they modified the server-side files in a way that was against our Terms of Service, not because they were running an older version of the game.
You still didn't address the other parts of the video such as opening a Legacy server, which while I'm no longer a part of the BoB community I do agree that it could really help with player relations between your staff and your players. But you do you, I'll be over here minding my own business. :)
It seems that this is a common problem with these legacy servers though, they always get tempted to abuse your tools or modify your game files, so because of that I think it would definitely be safer if you guys planned to do your own servers eventually.
This is not an immediate idea I'm suggesting either! I just notice this problem where there seems to be a demand for this type of server, but there's always some corrupt abuse happening on them, leading you guys on a constant goose chase. I think it would bring you guys peace of mind, and is definitely a "backburner" idea. Thank you for your response though!
The only things they modified were so they could give players the old shim skins, the isle lets you mod legacy and modify whatever so why not allow it in this case? most of those old shim owners have moved on it's not hurting anyone just because people have special skins but don't own them on those old servers now.
The issue they had with it is these owners payed upwards of thousands of dollars for said skins or the devs wanted to keep them to themselves. While I personally question the morals of having someone dump a bunch of money onto devs to have a special skin made that is not available to the public (in a multiplayer game), it is against their Terms of Service to gain access to things that aren't available to you by default. The only way that legally any of this would be possible is if BoB would open Mod support which is something that they've been mentioning for a while, but as usual doesn't deliver. @@Marshy2020
I think what would be better is allowing the adjustment of the growth rate in BoB classic if it does become available, given that that's the primary thing that was modded in the first place and it's what brought a lot of players back from the dead. BoB classic growth is horrid XD@@disasterallosaurus
There are currently two Legacy BoB servers running at least, Helheim is a survival one and Arcane Isles is Chill incase anyone was unaware.

Yeah I wasn't aware of these two! The ones I hear about usually end up doing shady stuff and close down within the next two weeks lol I gotta check these out somehow
I really think this is a good idea (Them opening their own legacy server), even as someone who likes the direction BoB is going, I will not dismiss the legacy players.
i've mained bob and played it non stop for the last 3-4 years i love new bob right now the fast growth is amazing and so is all the newer changes but theres also times where i just wanna go back to old memories i had with friends playing the slow growth being able to group and mess around with my friends without having to be trying to find food and eat every 3 seconds getting big and actually feeling like you've achieved something however now u gotta get to like 8.0+ for it to feeel slightly rewarding
the only issue about opening their own old bob server branch is deciding which branch.. people might agree one branch is better and people might agree that another is the only other way really is to open several servers with different patches to be honest but yet again its just what i think would happen
I'd say the branch that was right before auto-revive/reincarnation/deity shrines being added. That feels like the best fit.
@@FoundedScreenLady well yeah maybe but then theres a lot of people that also prefer pre rex patch with the old talent trees it would be a big thing to decide what patches to have if there would only be one server (edit this is yet again just my opinion please do not capture my family)
Although I do believe gauntlet fixed many of the issues with BoB's current situation over the last few years, I still do miss old damage jump and model scaling and would love it if they gave us the option to play on "legacy" servers instead of only giving us the option to play a version of the game that we don't find as fun and rewarding
I like the idea of being able to play an older version of BoB. I never got the chance to play it out and I'm thinking of buying it. The fact that I could play an older version of the game and compare it to the current one is good!
The branch they had before Rex remodel imo was peak bob having a branch that gives everyone old fluffy rex back would be fun
I think going back that far would be perfect tbh, I loved that old rex model! I was quite fond of those times!

My opinion is going to probably be an unpopular one. Honestly I see legacy servers purely as more spreading of the playerbase. 100's of servers between dozens of players. I see what you're saying and I agree for the most part but one of the biggest gripes I have with this game is seeing dead servers and splitting the game once again is only going to further spread the playerbase. I know people are going to say "But it's just for the players that want legacy BoB." but the fact is sure for a while the players that left might return and populate this server/s but they're gonna leave again just like they always do after any big update within a few weeks to months and it'll just be the dedicated fan base remaining, only now even further spread apart.
The game is fun, but it feels dead. Removing the dead servers is in my opinion a better solution than creating more.
I really appreciate the example of WoW vanilla as it is similar to what's going on with BoB, however I would like to add a few things if you don't mind. While I was on the team for the legacy server you were talking about, the primary reason the growth was increased to such a high rate was because no one really would play legacy BoB with its standard growth rate. Even after the server was shut down there was talk of opening a non modded legacy BoB server however the majority of the legacy playerbase was simply not interested in dedicating that much time growing.
Mind you this was several months ago and I've not really been keeping up to date as far as people's interest in a legacy server, but I think it would be a step in the right direction if the devs allowed more flexibility in how users want to play their game. I personally have a lot of good memories on both BoB "classic" and BoB Titania, and they both offer a unique aspect of fun. Hopefully they will follow through on allowing Mod support so that people can have fun without angering the BoB gods. :)

I would really like to play the old Burmuda, I liked the old balance, it’s a pity the developers don’t want to launch the legacy version(
God I miss old Bob, the times where Bob felt like an actual survival server and not a chill game to grow to 4.0+ and get the best inherits possible. The day they added infinite growth to pass a certain point it killed a lot of the servers I used to be in and was very devastating :( now I don’t even touch the game. Most servers are hardcore chill/grow servers or servers that have clans
Legacy is just going to fully split the small population we already have tbh...
As for the servers being shut down, the official staff have publicly said a few times old bob servers are fine to make and play, as long as they fully abide by TOS of Bob and steam

Same! If anything, old BoB walked so new BoB could run, in my opinion of course! I appreciate old BoB for what it was, even if I don't have time for it now. :) thanks for your thoughts!

The game began to openly die after entering the "Life cycle" game mode. Still, they remember that after its introduction, most of the audience of the game did not like it, where you reach 2.0, get 6 talent points, and starved to death, after which you gladly returned to the newly named "Free roam"?
Players always wanted to get faster growth, but at the start the new mode was unplayable. The situation was saved by an update with the introduction of events, which the administrators of the community servers managed to use, and stretched them over the entire map. Yes, it breathed new colors into the new game mode, and everyone was slowly switching to it. But all the same, whether you are 2.0 without an event, or 5.0 with an event, you will starve to death. This border has not gone away, and if you still haven't starved to death, then you'll just be afraid to go on your dinosaur so as not to lose it.
Because of this, players no longer sat in their seats for growth, but ran endlessly around the map to have time to enjoy the process, turning the game into an endless deathmatch.
And now the moment has come, you died on your dinosaur from the fact that you had an extremely depressing hunger debuff for your dinosaur. You were ambushed and killed. Do you want to do this journey all over again? No, you don't want to if you're not an optimist in this life. And if the game had a good reincarnation system or other thing encouraging you to start over, then it's fine, but it's not there. Reincarnation has a strict limit in the number of inherited advantages of about 20-24.
The game urgently needs to either change the game mode completely, or introduce much more interesting rewards for death at high growth, because the developers have already introduced everything possible so that the big dinosaur does not seem so strong.
They added a console command called "GiveMutation". Or maybe it's "SetMutation".
I do miss legacy 02. Felt great playing with friends. More creatures were able to group together (apa+para+lurd+ory). Now, nobody wants to play 06.

Honestly this would be kinda cool but I don't see them hosting any "legacy" servers themselves. Worrying about people messing with files and getting donor skins is also an issue, as mentioned.
I think if they allow people to host legacy servers, those servers should, by default, be toggled not to show on the server list. That way new players get the newest and intended experience without confusion. Eventually, they'd find out about the legacy servers and go explore it if they want.
Personally, I would go back and try an older version (no earlier than late 2019 tho cause the game was a nightmare to even launch in 2018) but I think I'd still stick with the newer version.
So the only legacy servers that would show up on the current bob listings is the ones afer Easy anti cheat was enabled or a lil after that. But most legacy servers (like mine for example) go back further than that so we can enjoy the old models like old rex, old krono etc. If you were interested in playing on a Legacy server that follows all ToS your more than welcome to try my server out. Its very small since I cant advertise it on any Official BoB site but i hope to have it grow in due time. (The patch is Trope Balance patch from 2020)

I would like to play my beloved apato again as it was before, tanky and strong whit intimidation, now what it got ? nothing its not even near to what it was back before the rework
I have a legacy server open right now on the Trope hot fix patch from 2020 if interested. It follows all ToS of course.
It is an infringement of the lisense of Beasts of Bermuda as an asset owned by the company that makes it. It's what most US copyright and trademark laws protect. The reason Pred and co is scrubbing it is because they never communicated or tried to work within the rights of the holder. If they can come to an agreement, then I am sure Pred would allow these kinds of servers. But just taking old patches and working them into the server and/or hacking that kind of server into existance is basically just making it illegal to use or operate.
Also, I think the hackers that have been hacking glimmers and shimmers or dev-only skins is why pred is so against the idea of legacy servers because it's absolutely breaking rules. But also legacy servers likely wouldn't become an official thing because Pred can't afford to run servers like that without knowing just how many people would really be interested. For all we know, only 20 people want it.
The isle's legacy branch is dead. The only reason legacy exists is because people have done exactly what they're doing in bob - running legacy servers on dedicated servers under the radar from Dondi's eyes. But the official legacy branch is officially offline. You can't access it without doing some whacky special things.
Personally, I like the direction Beasts of Bermuda was going. I hate Titania as a map, but I do like the other ones. I enjoy both regular servers and chill servers. But a common thing i see in bob is no matter what pred does, people hate the game anyways. Everyone quite literally has become so toxic that hating the game is kinda the norm and it's kinda sad. There's nothing really constructive about most of the hate out there so Pred and team would take weird directions to cater to the loud haters only for them to be louder cuz turns out they never wanted that change in the first place and now that they got it, they don't like it so therefore it's the dev's fault for making a terrible direction choice - when they suggested it in the first place. It's a catch 22 pred is stuck in most updates. And the dinos being added are bought by backers and so if you hate a dino, blame the person who paid for it.
This video is well made, though, and does point out a lot of things that I agree with. I do think legacy servers would work out but I think there needs to be some kind of agreement between dev and server to be able to do it to avoid those hacking servers where they just yoink in glims and shims all the time against the rules.

The sad thing about Legacy isle is that people have been going into the files as well and adding modding back in to the game sure I understand that but tbh has ruined what I liked about the legacy isle ;c. I loved old bob as well it was fun and I missed that apa could stomp etc etc But should be a little bit updated so its not a broken legacy branch XD
