I was at this game. So hype when Haden got that pick to seal it! This was the rise of Bama though. After this year their confidence, recruiting, and execution went to another level.
I mean if it wasn't for arenas costing us 35 yards, Nick running a stupid fake fg with tiffin on the bench, or hightower getting a hold of the facemask we probably win the game....that's how close the margin is between victory and defeat...tiny little errors like that can make or break the game for ya. With that being said, Florida did have more talent that year and this is one of the only bama losses I kind of enjoy watching...
I mean yeah they were the better team, but yeah if you take away the kickoff gaffe, the terrible fake fg decision and the hightower facemask we could have been in the title game year 2. Nevertheless, I have no complaint with how everything ultimately turned out. :)
What an important game for the Saban Era. The best loss anyone could ever imagine. This Florida team was unbelievable and deserving of the championship.
Florida was amazing.. Tim Tebow was a god in college football.. I rembmer how good Percy Harvin was to.. this was pretty much the glory days of Florida football.. 2008 team is by far Florida's best team.. there was so much more talent in football back in the early 2000's and 90's..
These two had a great back to back #1 vs #2 SEC title series.....Florida gets their chip....then appears to be heading for another....until a Bama dynasty kicks off and gets in the way.
I was disappointed but not mad with the loss. Florida was the better team. It was only year 2 of the Saban era. Plus, it made them laser focused and hungry for revenge in 2009. Side note: It's so creepy seeing Aaron Hernandez on these highlights knowing what we do now.
This was the first National Championship play in game in many peoples eyes. Tebows promise, Texas losing to Tech in the final seconds, experts still learning who Bama was. Fantastic year. This lose was probably the best thing to ever happen to Bama. They came back the next year and took out Tebow and started a dynasty that is only challenged by Ohio State, Clemson and Auburn. But this year, after Ole Miss stunned Florida there was no stopping Tebow. Man among boys this year. Also, how Oklahoma was over Texas is still beyond me since Texas beat them.
My take away from this and many SEC Championships since is we should do away with these games or schedule them post National Championship. The SEC screws itself every year with this game - most years two of the top 5 teams in college football play this game one is eliminated from the big game because the SEC is so stacked with talent.
I mean, the SEC Championship is basically a play-in game to the playoffs nowadays. Every SEC Champion since 2006 has made the BCS Title Game/CFP Playoff. So if you want to be in you gotta prove it in the SECCG. Teams like 2018 UGA may have been one of the “four best teams,” but they had their shot in the SECCG to beat Bama and earn their way into the playoffs.
The last time to date that Florida has beaten Alabama. When Florida was trailing going into the fourth quarter and I had no doubts that Florida could come back to win, because that ‘08 team was on a mission. This also set up Alabama's success which began the next year by beating Florida in the rematch, and ultimately led to Nick Saban building his dynasty at Alabama. Unfortunately, Florida is far from this kind of success these days. Even though I thought Florida had the better talent in this game, I knew this wouldn't be an easy game as Nick Saban was really starting to put his mark on Alabama and I knew would have their hands full in this own as the Tide wouldn't go down quietly.
I remember going to see Alabama games during the dark ages when you could find Alabama tickets laying on the sidewalk. Then they won some games and priced out the little people who stuck with them when things weren't that good out of the game.
notice how when saban lost he still stuck around and talked with Meyer for quite a while, fast forward to a year Saban wins and there is literally no conversation. Just gives you an idea of the difference there is in class between these two.
That doesn't tell much when it comes to class. Literally Saban's losses he leaves after handshake. Wow should the coaches stay and have a chat everytime
If Tyrone prothro wouldn't went down it's a good chance we would have won the SEC and probably national he was just that great of a player he made everyone better around him he was the equivalent of having a Reggie Bush and with that they would have went undefeated but if that would have we would not have gotten Nick Saban but I really did hate it for him he never was the same after that
No Bama team would be able to play this Florida team. The 2009 Florida team wasn’t half of what this 2008 Florida team was fyi. 08 UF is the goat. And without Cor. Ingram or Harvin! Tells you something.
Doc lol no bama team has played a schedule that hard and in an era like the mid to late 2000s in the SECs best time. Foh. 08 Florida over all. Bama gets so much help from the NCAA and gees targeted never. They play softy 2010s football now. Bye.
@@Ggdp97 oh you're one of those "Alabama gets help from everywhere" type of idiots. If I would've known that I wouldn't have engaged. See ya loser, get some more fucking material.
Dumbest post I've ever seen...2011 Alabama defense would have shut them down. The 2009 team would have rolled them...This year's team would own them. The 2011 Alabama team played a MUCH tougher schedule. Hell, looking at them, ; 4 current Alabama title teams played tougher schedules...
I bet Saban never runs a fake field goal in a title game again. This game and now Clemson. He should fake a punt instead. Just abandon your fake field goal package Nick.

This one of the few times alabama has been pretty much beat by talent, despite javie's big kickoff screw up. Florida was the better team that year.
Also remember Florida was missing one of their best players, Percy Harvin.

USC should have played them instead of OU. Prolly would have won too

The game was in Bama favor but Florida was the better team
@Benjamin Kretchman if Florida didn’t drop those passes we would’ve beat Alabam

That was such a special season and JPW was cool as hell. I was very disappointed after that game.

And kids, this is what the college football playoffs used to look like, the winner of this game should always have a spot in the championship game!
Fastest team I've ever seen.

Easily Tebow's greatest game. Go Gators!!!
He’s gay
I remember watching this game.. Me and my brother looked at each other and said next year's and years to come Alabama gonna be hard to beat.
Sec championship game is pretty much the national title game anymore.
Love my bama boys

This game made me a hardcore Bama fan after they lost.. came back next year and spanked them 😂
Julio Jones is what turned me into a bama fan.
Cringe
seems like florida ran the option quite frequently due to coaches realizing Tebows limitations with throwing the football
Duh lol
people don’t realize that. they think tebow failed the nfl because of his religion than the fact that he couldn’t throw

Eerie to see Aaron Hernandez.
why?
coffee is a beast and Julio Jones is awesome.
Imagine if Harvin would have been able to play in this game.
It seems like Urban Meyer always has the recipe for beating Nick Saban. 2014 Ohio St., and 2008 SEC Championship game.

Alabama ENDED UF's little run...
I didn't think Julio played in 2008
Well 2011 was his rookie year
2008 was his freshman year at Alabama. I would say he was one of Nick Saban’s first hyped recruits coming out of high school while Saban was at Bama.
What the hell is that trooper sticking his face in there for? It looks like he thinks he's being interviewed.
That lame penalty on the face mask turned the game to UF’s favor. Javy with a mental error as well.
It wasn’t lame. It was obvious. Cry harder, Rammer Jammer.😂🐊
That phantom face mask call on Hightower changed the game for UF. If not for that call, Bama wins.
