Bilt Hamber is a serious brand with zero hype. Touch-Less was designed for the UK market ("sugar soap" is a common household product in the UK) in conjunction with their Touch-On shampoo which has ceramic protection built-in. It was never intended or marketed to be a "Touchless" wash. I do think Touch-Less has now taken off and eclipsed its Touch-On counterpart because it is a very effective prewash that is also very safe when used correctly. It has a high pH without the use of caustic soda or other corrosive ingredients. But I've never really seen any serious (UA-cam) detailers use it without following up with a contact wash.
I think most informed detailing enthusiasts are pretty skeptical of any "touchless" wash products because they don't actually get the car clean enough, and if they did it is likely that they are too strong and are going to damage things like plastic trim (black and "chromed") and things like rubber seals, etc. Its also a non-starter unless you have a deionized or reverse-osmosis water system so that you don't get water spots. I think you're going to have an uphill climb with a product like this.

is possible under circumstances been using both Autofoam and Touchless. Is down to wash frequency, environment, ceramic coated, pressure washer handling method and PSI to water output. As i have mentioned t o Jimbo before the prewash method needs revision not the on the soap as much, as the way is handle out. Surely enough when time is important for video things can get biased

He has a pre-production sample bottle and He has a different video that shows a different result (ua-cam.com/video/1vELVztbok0/v-deo.htmlsi=Cu7zjpoCgY82Zwuz) , but he hasn’t released that video. Also, it was washed 20 times, which depending on how frequently you wash a car would take 5-10 months. If you take the average of that it exactly meets the claims I have listed. As I have mentioned numerous times there is always a give and take when making products. I opted for extreme ease of use, high gloss, high slickness and really good durability. If I wanted to boost durability even more it would begin to possibly streak, which I don’t want. Keep it easy and simple and most car people will apply often. If not on average it will last 6 months+

What are your thoughts on Yvan's logic from DYI Detail about that doing a pre-rinse with the high pressure of the pressure washer can potentially scratch the car by pushing that dirt with force and no almost lubrication (since water is a solvent and very poor/mediocre lubricant).
    The theory is:
High pressure can dislodge dirt particles and fling them against the paint, which can cause scratches, especially if the dirt contains hard or abrasive elements.
Water itself isn't a great lubricant. Without a proper soap solution, the dirt particles can grind against the paint as the water pressure moves them.

I’ve been testing products for companies for 40 years now. The test I did was bolt some acrylic panels ( much softer than paint to accelerate the process) to the side of a semi trailer, 1/2 of the panel we pre foamed, the other 1/2 we went straight to the pressure washer, also rinsing the foamed side.
Next , foamed the panel again, and contact washed with a new wool wash mit ( this was before microfibre was a thing) on both panels.
Once done dried with the same towel.
This test lasted 10 weeks ( a wash every week) . The results were clear after 3 weeks, but I committed to a 10 week test. Today’s soap chemistry is much better than in 1998, but the pressure washer nozzles are the same.

Zep TnT is another “brushless” soap designed for trucks and trailers - it’s dirt cheap too, around $13/gal.
It seems to work well on silver and black cars. We need something economical so we opted for the $100 5 gal pail. I wouldn’t wash fleets without touchless.
These vehicles drive 5 days a week so there’s no need for perfection, but when we are caught up washing all the cars can we can more methodical and do a contact wash and all necessary steps for paint correction and protection.
Swift sucks. It’s like $41/gal undiluted.
We do have a great set up using a 2000 PSI and 2 anion/cation DI tanks. The key for touchless to me is to hit the panels at 0° and sway your body around keeping your shoulders tight.
You don’t wanna get thoracic outlet syndrome or rotator cuff issues washing class B/A fleets.
Hope to try your stuff Jimbo! Bc I am 7/10 confident in this Zep TnT at this point.

I think this definitely has a place in the market. Think pollen season in the northeast (which is starting soon) or those quick mid-week washes to clean off water spots from rain or random dust that sticks to the back of SUVs when parked on the street (I know, I know, not if you use Hard as Shell.) It's a great option for a quick wash and dry--especially for those of us DIY people that don't want to wait a full week to wash a car because it's 'sort of' dirty. While I hate to say "Close Enough For Government Work" sometimes you want something quick that isn't a true high PH pre wash. Make the car shiny for the next four days before I can get around to a full wash. Looking forward to the tire stuff coming out, and keep us in the NorthEast in mind. Not everyone is sunny and 70 degrees in March!!

Hey Jimbo, I chatted with you about this a couple of months ago while I was trucking. I’m from Canada, I have some thoughts about this.. first would be that I’ve tried most of the “auto detailing” sort of touchless brands out there and have found non of them meet my standards.. however because I also detail semi’s I’ve found some of the commercial truck ones work fantastic in my detailing of traditional 4 wheeler (cars trucks etc) vehicles. As you are developing I’d maybe talk to the chemist about brands like “eacochem” and their products like “glory bc” and “truck wash supreme” , as well as even the chem ex 2 step (although not my favorite since it requires 2 parts.
I personally use glory bc for about 95% of my maintenance jobs. One thing I’ll note about the commercial touchless soaps. Is that the dilution ratios are insane they begin at 20:1 and go up to 100:1, I can get a gallon of glory bc for 60$ Canadian. It lasts me months. Another note on the touchless on the commercial side, is one thing I’ve found is that almost all of them specify to rinse off bottom up. I have no clue why, I’ve experimented with top down- bottom up and can confirm for some reason unknown to me. Bottom up is better.. the other weird thing I’ve noticed is that for especially dirty vehicles, and even a direction on the glory bc bottle. Is to do 2 applications to the vehicle without rinsing inbetween.. so foam on, let it dwell. When you would normally rinse, do a second application, dwell again and then rinse..
    It works.
Maybe try that with your soap and see if it fixes some of the bug residue issues and hazing..
That’s my 2 cents. Take it for what you want. I honestly prefer touchless, I think it’s a safer wash method, it’s faster for a detailer, it’s easy for mobile. And for me it makes sense since I only have a few chemicals to do both my commercial vehicle clients as well as “traditional” detailing clients.
I would love to try some of your soap. Dm me on the discord when you’ve got some available and I’ll buy some to try. I’d love to help with this process.

    In my opinion :
Pre-rinse is necessary to remove the heavy stuff....the large "chunks" of debris
Touchless is never 100% touchless. I've never seen anything that would leave your car 100% clean
In my opinion, contact wash is 100% necessary, no chemical is strong enough to "self clean in a touchless way"
but if we can get as close as possible so the prewash is doing most of the work...then the contact wash will be less aggressive on paint and deminish scratches or so called "love marks"....
am I on the right track Jimbo?

  • @toddn.3123
    @toddn.3123 6 місяців тому

The thing here is that this isn't new. "Touchless" automated car washes have been using a "stronger" soap for year. Do they work great, not always, but they were mainly designed for people getting a wash every few days for a vehicle not that dirty vs a wash every couple of weeks. From a chemical point of view, you can make a soap that strips everything off, but then the question is, what damage is it leaving? Good clean it need to be a heavy degreaser, but how do you strip oils (aka road film) from the painted surfaces and avoid stripping oils that are good for plastics and rubber. You don't want dried out, weather/window seals, dry-rot tires, or even causing bushings in the suspension to fail early. I'm sure someone already has a formula for a true "touch" "less" soap, but it just causes too many other issues to bring it to market. So we need to avoid getting tunnel vision on how it works just for paint and glass... there is more to look out for. As well, is it physically safe to use or not. Lots of unknowns

I'm a bit confused as to what you think a Touchless solution is? Bilt Hamber make no claims that their Touchless Prewash is an all in one cleaning solution. It is exactly what it says it is. A pre-wash.
It is used to rinse off any loose dirt before you actually use a foam wash, and whatever cleaning method you decide to use to remove the remaining dirt. I doesn't and has never claimed to be an all in one, you don't touch the car cleaner.
And I agree, there is no such thing as an all in one touchless cleaner. You have to agitate the dirt on a motor vehicle with your hands to get it clean.
