    One of the best pet care videos I have seen. You don’t cutify everything. You have experience and it shows. Great video.

    I personally don't use calcium dust as my tortoise doesn't eat his food with it on so I give him a large cuttlefish bone because it provides the calcium and it prevents his beak from over growing

    Brilliant video! I have wanted a tortoise at some point in my future but have been looking into the best one for me. I dont want a future giant lol but one that stays reasonably sized fully grown. Definitely looking more into this species.

    What a stunning animal! But OMG their care requirements seem complex. I’ll stick with my snakes and freezer full of rats and mice lol.

    Question : as a zoo keeper in the UK. I notice there is a a distain for the hobby, even though hobbyists have been breeding things for years, some zoos can't crack it or when they do they announce it as a UK first. For example, Chester zoo are struggling to breed their parsons chameleons but there are hobbyists who have been breeding for years. There seems to be a refusal to communicate. Wondering what your thoughts are. Cheers.

    Great video. Big Dee is lovely, looks to have some slight pyramiding so maybe lack of brumation and/or poor diet/lighting at some point.
    All my Horsfields including my hatchlings all go into brumation from the first year onwards. Obviously it's a short one on their first year, but better short than none at all.
    Good content, keep it up 👍

    Thanks for this video, really informative. I have Two horsefield tortoises and don’t know what the sex of them are. I’ve been told two different things from two different pet shops! Is there anyway possible I could forward you a picture of them both via email or something? Thanks again

      Long tail is a male short tail is a female.

      I was just going to ask the same thing as we were sold a male but I think its female from the research I have done. So our "Sheldon" may have to become "Amy" from the big bang theory!

    • @nogames8982
      @nogames8982 3 роки тому +1

      andrea Turnbull if you got your tortoise wild caught chances are it is an adult so you can count on the tail length. But if you got it captive bred and it’s still young, like under five years, they all look like female for a while. They just have to get old enough to really show it. And it’s usually quite obvious male versus female once the tortoise is an adult. And I had a tortoise that I named Jack. Jack has laid six eggs so far :-)

    Do tortoises need a companion or are they solitary creatures? I have a lil tortoise I think its female even though guy in shop said its male but do you think I should get another one for company? I feel so sorry for it on its own.

      Hi Andi if your tortoise is male it will fight with another male and males will constantly harass females. Even females can bully each other.
      A tortoise living alone is generally a happy tort.

    so cute 🥺 I’m so confused why my horsefield tortoise isn’t growing and I’ve had him/her for 3 years now :( do you have any tips on how i can get him/ her to grow or why he/she isn’t growing?

    • @nogames8982
      @nogames8982 4 роки тому +1

      You might have gotten it as an adult. And the male tortoises don’t grow very big.

    My parents tell my to get ones without roofs
    As in tanks
    And only have the heat lamp on sometimes
    But i think next tank i might leave the heat on all the time and have no roof
    Put in the comments if its a good idea
