Great video! Thanks for the excellent info. I just ordered two 2lb bags of Santa Barbara Chocolate’s Rainforest Dark Vegan Cacao Powder. I love that they post the heavy metal levels right on their website for each product. It’s time to start supporting companies that are transparent about these kinds of things.
Thank you! I should have watched this before buying a double pack of Terrasoul. I'm glad I bought Terrasoul, I just like way more than 1 TBSP per night.
Thank you for this! I actually had just bought cacao powder from Costco but something told me to do research before actually pouting it in my body. I learned so much today, I’m a lil shocked that this isn’t taught in schools.
I REALLY appreciate this video man and I subscribed. Been searching for a solid rundown on this highly concerning issue and yours is the best I've found by far. I live in CA too and ordered a bag of navitas and got that nasty warning label and was like wait...
Navitas Cacao Powder website says it has, 0.07mcg per gram of Lead. 0.13mcg per gram of Cadmium 1 Serving is 6 grams(1 Tablespoon) 1 serving contains: 0.42mcg of Lead *Safe Level* =0.5mcg/day 0.78mcg of Cadmium *Safe Level* =4.1mcg/day
Just listened to you on Andre Duqum's Know Thyself podcast, thank you for so much clear information!!! Also learned a lot from this one about cacao. I live in Canada and use a couple of organic brands, but not sure how I can learn about their cadmium/lead content. Thank you for what you do!!!
I was informed Nativa cacao powder had the lowest heavy metals. I was buying that one, but one day I accidentally bought another brand that had very similar packaging. I contacted the company to find out if they test for heavy metals and they said they don’t. I recommended that they do as it is a concern for many people. They responded that they would pass on my recommendation. I am currently using the cacao but am suspicious that it is probably high. I would like to get it tested privately.
Great video! I’m now curious about this “Moringa Hot Chocolate” by CoCoRinga that claims it’s so healthy, not to mention it is pricey. I’m gonna have to research..
This was very informative! I've been using Navitas but will definitely be stopping that now. The only comment I have is that Viva Naturals' packaging does have the prop65 warning on it - do we know why, considering their COAs showed that they were under the limit? And if there are brands that do not have the prop65 warning, should that mean it doesn't exceed CA's levels?
Thank you so much ! I just bought navitas cacao nibs for first time for smoothies , so the cacao Nibs are not safe ? What about navitas cacao butter ? Got it for my skincare Please let me know I’m gonna throw it away if it’s not safe Ty
Thank you so much for all your work and all the information’s. Was even better if you show us the picture off the good cacao that you were talking about.😊
I looked into Santa Babara Chocolate and I only see COCOA powder for sale, not CACAO. Did they use to sell Cacao or are your ratings based on the Cocoa powder?
I wrote and asked them about this, here’s their reply; Our Cocoa / Cacao Powders are made from raw cacao processed at very low temperatures. This method helps us maintain the highest flavanol content possible. We understand the confusion between 'cacao' and 'cocoa.' Our product is cacao, processed minimally to preserve its natural health benefits. Under FDA US law it is labeled as cocoa powder as an ingredient (the US law does not recognize the colloquial terminology difference between how the cacao versus cocoa is made and handled).
From Consumer Reports Testing...."The best cocoa powder overall was Navitas Organics Organic Cacao Powder, which reached 77 percent of CR’s lead limit and 17 percent of the cadmium limit. Navitas has a third party test all finished products for heavy metals to ensure low levels, according to the company website".
Question: is there any safe way to make a nice dark chocolate flavored protein shake? Cause I was putting 3 tablespoons in my shakes (which is apparently a death wish after watching this). One tablespoon I can't even taste the chocolate let alone one teaspoon
What about Blueprint Cacao powder made by Bryan Johnson his numbers are listed on his web site and his amazon page. Lead 0.061 ppm, Cadmium 0.553 ppm. He said he tested others and then sourced and created his own brand because he felt he could do better.
I was using navitas Brand. After I tested my cadmium levels and they were super high! I stopped immediately. I breastfeed to and I was passing that on to my daughter via my breast milk.
Sevenhills and Buyeholefoodsonline in the UK shared their heavy metal levels with me and were all guaranteed to be well below the max. threshold for EU/UK law.
I’ve been using Terrasoul since last year and most recently found mold in my dates, which I ingested and felt very sick from. I was very concerned since I’m exclusively nursing my baby. I contacted Terrasoul and they were very noncommittal. They did the bare minimum and were satisfied with Amazon providing me with a refund. They did nothing more. From their hands-off approach, I also got the impression that this happens often, as I got an unsigned and generic reply from customer service (only the last message was personalized and signed). Extremely disappointed with this brand and their handling of this very delicate situation. If I were the owner of this company, I’d be mortified with how my team handled this. When I tried sharing this with others on IG, my post was deleted and my personal account was blocked. Just awful all around!
Going onto Santa Barbara’s website, and I don’t see cacao powder listed as an option. Only cocoa powder - is this what you were referring to in this video?
@Sam Adams It says in the video that most of the heavy metals got introduced in their shipping process and major companies took the concentrations of heavy metals seriously from the 2017 As You Sow report. The best in the list contains so little that you would not need to worry much about how much you are using, based on California's guidelines that are more strict than FDA. That proves that just having cocoa is not necessarily guaranteed for dangerous contamination.
Hi. I got a copy of a COA after watching your video from Antler Farms. I was wondering if I could get your email and send it over to you and get your thoughts on it and run the numbers? Ty
The only SB chocolate I can find was this: www.santabarbarachocolate.com/vegan-cocoa/? Is this your favorite one? I'm a little cautious because it says cocoa not cacao. Description sounds like its "raw'
Best one
1-Terrasoul -one spoon per day
2- viva naturals one tsp
Favorite-santa barbara chocolate
And wildly organic

You will eventually rock in UTube too just like IG..it takes some time but ur effort in spreading healthy info will pay off..respect
Really appreciate this episode! Exactly what I was looking for on cacao that no other videos satisfied! Your work is much appreciated.🙏🏼

Such valuable information! I was using terrasoul, but was definitely exceeding the limit ( a tablespoon to tablespoon & a half).
Hi Melanie how use cacao powder

Thank you for sharing this information and it's very easy to find out where a company is sourcing their product from.
Navitas Cacao Powder website says it has,

@@BoxingQExactly, 3rd party lab work is the only way we can trust these companies.
Thanks! This is really helpful! I've been using KORACAO ceremonial cacao for a few months now and I'm loving it!

Certain items I get only if they're produced in CA. I know the standards are higher because of regulations.
Love all your content!!
Always looking forward to the next video (knowledge bomb)
Thank you 🙂
Can you pretty please do an updated video of this pleeeease 🙏

Great information! Have you done a video on heavy metals in turmeric? If not, is that something you would consider doing? Thank you!

Hi Dr. G, do you have a more recent review?
I got a different brand from Whole Foods, and it's coming out of California! However, I did see that brand.
Is carob powder also full of heavy metals?
Thank you so much !
I just bought navitas cacao nibs for first time for smoothies , so the cacao
Nibs are not safe ?
What about navitas cacao butter ? Got it for my skincare
Please let me know I’m gonna throw it away if it’s not safe
Ty
I wonder if the same can be said for spinach, and other common “healthy” foods……I’ve heard there is a lot of lead in organic spinach.
How does the Santa Barbara company package of the product look like
Thank you so much for all your work and all the information’s. Was even better if you show us the picture off the good cacao that you were talking about.😊
Do you have any information about Ecoideas organic cacao powder? It says it is from Ecuador. I am in Canada so no california codes on it. Thank you.
OMG just discovered you when researching cacoa. You're amazing! My husband said you're like an intellectual Bill Burr! 😂😂
Great channel, just found. Thanks for the information.
Thanks Jim you answer my cuestión 🙏👍

That is all I have found also. They have a product Rainforest Dark Vegan Cacao Powder, though the ingredient in CAPS says COCOA!

Wow, nothing but respect for you

What about cacao nibs? I’m assuming same companies??Measurements?
Simply tell if Terrasoul Cacao is recommended for its cadmium content
I was using navitas Brand. After I tested my cadmium levels and they were super high! I stopped immediately. I breastfeed to and I was passing that on to my daughter via my breast milk.
How did you get your cadmium tested? I’ve been using this brand for a few years and now I’m worried!
@@Mvp_466Hello, did you find any info and how is your cadmium level ? Please share.
Did Navitas ever provide the info since then?
im not in USA... any Eu options?
Thank you I needed this video so much bro
Hey Dr G, is Antler Farms cacao low in cadmium and lead? They claim to be a very clean product from the Peruvian jungle.
Great information. Thank you.
So Terrasoul had a lawsuit against them. Not sure if you were aware of that
Sevenhills and Buyeholefoodsonline in the UK shared their heavy metal levels with me and were all guaranteed to be well below the max. threshold for EU/UK law.
Has anyone researched a brand called.... blue print? Bryan Johnson's company...he is that longevity guy taking it to the next level and beyond.
Which organic cacao powder brand you recommend is legit please advice. nevermind i saw the whole video you are amazing👏
What about foods alive cacao?
Can someone describe if cadmium is added to cacao powder.

Yes.
Thank you SO MUCH....I was so happy having CACAO as a new real SUPERFOOD
..unfortunately NO LONGER ...heavy metals = SICK BRAIN....thank you Doc !!!!
Does choclate nesquik have cadmium?
Haha😂 I mean 😯 that is a joke, right?
Should all chocolate products be avoided or just the powders? Like is a chocolate bar just as bad ?

This issue is amount of metals in Cacao and that’s so concerning. Even Navitas brand has metals
Another ‘food’ to avoid! I’ll just buy doughnuts, throw away the outer portion and eat the holes.
is this about cacao or cocoa ...two different things
Amazing work man 👏
Thank you 🙌
I think the conclusion is, it's just not worth it to eat cacao.
Too much words, too little information, on and on and on the same things rather than valuable information.
That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking!! Geez. Use some graphics…make a list. Something!!
1 teaspoon to 1 TBSP --😭😭😭
