    Your comment about people just thinking that replacing the plugs & wires will fix their problem is spot on. A few weeks back at AZ I had a customer come in & tell me his '95 S-10 would only start if he used starting fluid. I told him he had a fuel delivery problem. He wanted me to explain to his "mechanic" friend what steps to take to figure out the problem. His friend had on a uniform that had his name on it as well as the garage that he worked at. I told him that he needed to put a fuel pressure gauge on it to check the pressure. His so-called "mechanic" said "oh no, he just needs new spark plug wires because that's the only thing that hasn't been replaced. I said "no", "new spark plug wires will NOT fix your problem". I even bet the so-called mechanic $100 that new spark plugs wouldn't fix his problem but he wouldn't take the bet. The so-called mechanic also said that the fuel pump wasn't the problem because he replaced it a couple of months ago to which I replied, "did you put in a new fuel filter when you replaced the pump" & the owner answered "no" & that he doesn't ever remember changing it.

      I usually tell people once. When they decide to ignore me I just let them do their thing and waste their money. I have see so many cars with new parts everywhere that have a simple issue.

      That's a good insight to the problems at Auto Zone. Thanks for the heads up. Zib!

    Your getting larger doses of progress than I am. Just the engine back in the car gotta be a great feeling. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    I have the same engine, 190,000 miles so far no real problems. I try to take care of regular maintenance. Hope it will keep going. I drive pretty conservative also, which helps. Thanks for your insight on this car.

    You have a vid for intake gaskets for 2.4?

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  3 роки тому

      Not specifically, but it is really simple and strait forward. The intake hangs right of the front of the engine.

    My friend, i truly need your help, i have a 99 pontiac grand am and i think i have a major problem with the timing chain because it makes a terrible noise but not the timing chain, it sounds like an intake valve is hitting with a piston and its making me crazy because i already change all the timig gear exactly as you show in the vidieo of the timing chain but the sounds still there, what can i do?

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  6 років тому

      If you had an Intake valve hitting a piston it would be bent and you could tell with a compression and leak down test. My guess it you have a collapsed lifter or a wiped cam lobe, but without hearing it I could not be sure. You can see how to do a leak down and compression test here: ua-cam.com/video/jX3D6wXxi5A/v-deo.html

    Does 2.4 use standard 5/8 spark plug socket

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  6 років тому

      Yeap. I was using my Duralast 5/8 with the magnet in it to put these in. I must say I love that plug socket.

    Getting closer to the finish line. Invest your money in Amazon stock. Now that it's dropped a lot it'll be cheap to get into and it's only gonna go up up up.

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  6 років тому

      Amazon doesn't make much of a profit. If I was to invest in stocks I would diversify it over a large number of companies that have a long history of making profits for it's share holders.

    I wanted to respond to your comment about buying stock in AutoZone. I have been working a 2nd job at AutoZone for the past 3 months & I'd advise against buying AZ stock. AZ is the absolute WORST company I have EVER worked for. AZ has a major Human Resource problem & currently has 10,000 openings in the US. In the past 3 weeks I have had 5 days that I was scheduled to work but I couldn't work due to some of my co-workers not showing up for work. It's company policy to have a minimum 2 people working in order to have the doors open.
    There's also the major fraud issue with customers bringing back parts for warranty. People will use their friend or neighbor's warranty to get themselves free brakes, rotors, alternators etc. Or there's DIY guys doing work for their friends & neighbors & whenever they have a job on a car that needs parts that they have replaced on a similar car they will warranty out those parts against a different vehicle that they had worked on in the past.
    Just last week a customer reported me to corporate for being rude to her because I wouldn't refund her money on a brake pedal switch that I knew damn well was the original part. The part that AZ sold was green & the one she was returning was black. The parts manager (who's completely useless) ended up refunding this woman for bringing back her factory original broken part. That reminds me to also state to NEVER buy parts from AZ that look to have been open or have dirt or grease on them because these parts were returned by people that fired the parts cannon at their car & missed.

      I have had a lot of problems with AZ. Anymore I order my stuff online and just go pickup the order. I have a lot of problems getting them to find the part and saying they don't have it or carry it when I know they do. I also have a LOT of problems lately with my closest store having anything in stock. I also hate it that the are all so busy answering the phone that they can't wait on the guy standing there with money in his had to buy something.

      AZ's inventory system is for crap. It will show parts being in stock but there's nothing on the shelf. Many times it's because a particular store was supposed to get that part delivered but never received it or one of their many new employees put the part in the wrong location. Some people have a hard time understanding planogram location codes or just don't know how to read. Like I said, AZ is the worst run company that I've ever worked for. My last day working was this past Thursday, which is when the schedule comes out. I was schedule to work at 1:00 today but when I got there the schedule had been changed & I was never contacted. Pisses me off because I could have went out of town with the family but instead I'm home & they're up at the cabin. AZ employees get a 20% discount but I still buy my parts online because they're still cheaper.
