Just finished watching third season today.
I absolutely loved everything: the cast, the sets, the music, the vfx.
They’ve changed some things, but overall it’s very loyal to the books. I especially was captured by Ruth Wilson and how she portrayed mrs Coulter. Her relationship with her daemon is so complex and sometimes scary that I got the chills, sitting there watching it. And that monkey is so well acted out by VFX and puppeteer that I couldn’t decide if I hated it or felt sorry for it.
Thank you, all who made this, for telling this story and for caring about doing it right.
From a long time fan of the books. ❤
So glad at least two good fantasy shows based on books stayed faithful to their source material and turned out great. Seriously this season was so good and I thank everyone involved for a wonderful experience one last time in these worlds
what is the other one?

Yeah, fr I can't wait for Lockwood and Co. to be a shitshow that doesnt end up coming close to the books.
@@owenleal what
@@chaotic-doxxer They are making a show on Netflix called Lockwood and Co which is based on a series of books that I used to read as a kid, and I am not looking forward to it because they are surely going to ruin it. My point is that at least this show got a good adaptation.
Still baffled by the decision to have HBO and the Beeb air the show each their own way. Way to divide your audience and ratings sadly. HDM deserved so much more recognition.
What do you mean? Surely it's the same show on both?
@@Whoopsydayzee 3 episodes at once vs one at a time maybe ?
@@Whoopsydayzee It's to do with the different ways they were aired. If I remember correctly HBO released two episodes a day, once a week starting on the 5th, and BBC released every episode on BBC iPlayer on the 18th.
Arkash means Karen in some language, I’m sure.
Yes HBO two a week, the other I don't know...
Kinda bummed the Mulefa don't have diamond-shaped limbs like in the books. That was the most memorable part about them in the original.
I thought it was the spines that are diamond shaped (like a kite), not the limbs. So there should have been one hind leg, one front leg, and two side legs.
Ngl I am sad the Mulefa and the Gallivespians (the tiny people with the dragonfly wings) didn't get much of the spotlight, but I understand that a huge portion of the budget went to the Land of the Dead and the show's version of the Battle on the Plain, and those needed all the help they could get to do the book justice. I miss the subtle tidbits of their culture and worldbuilding though.
Honestly I watched this series for the world building I felt a little sad because they didn't show more worlds and cultures and explored more of it
Be glad, at least they didn't make Lyra suddenly go mad and burn down the Mulefa's World.
😁
That was a burn about a burnout 😂😂
still hurts...
😂
😅😂😂😂❤
I was so disappointed seeing the Mulefa not having wheels and how much stuff wasn't shown. It felt quite rushed but it was still such a great series
how did they explain it? the symbiosis between the mulefa and the seedpods and the trees was built upon the way their bodies were designed... why do they look like tiny paraceratherium?
I personally liked more the way they use the seeds like wheels. Makes much more sense
Same, was so looking forward to seeing diamond backs! Wanted to see how their feet look like too! It made such a point in the book!
It sure looks like they have wheels to me.
It's a compromise probably to get something that looks right on screen. Rollerskating tapirs is already a reach without turning them into diamond-shaped Elephant Bikes.
Remember the movie Legion or the series Dominion, which is about Angels.. this is better (His Dark Material).
On a scale from The Witcher to His Dark Materials adaptations can be rated.
Sad but true
this season felt so rushed. we barely see the mulafas, the angels and the "wasps", even Metatron didn't seem as big as they should... glad the show got a conclusion but really wished we had more time to appreciate the story
The Pandemic got in the way, and the two main actors were already older than their characters. They didn’t have much of an option but to jump in and wind up the story.
Honestly, i wasn't expecting the pods to be like that with the Mulefas...
Yeah, in the books they have more of a wheel-axel thing going on.
This video is a bit early, considering the ep 7 spoilers? I mean, I already watched it on iplayer, but still. Loved the show, absolutely beautiful.
Loved it.
One of the finest art of piece. Will wait for such a webseries.
awesome series and brilliant resolution. I was REALLY worried that they would get the Mulefa wrong - but they are perfect! I just watched all three seasons in two days while I was doing an epic hand stitching job. Such a great way to spend dreary January days!
Hiw are they perfect when they didn’t have diamond shaped spines, and thus the limbs are all wrong?

Nice work
I love the way they showed love and experience..am waiting for next year season 4 ....🤩🤩🤩😍
Season 4... 😆
@@markchristensen23 why? What's wronge
HDM is based on the book series of the same name by Philip Pullman. As there are three books and the books and series ended the same way, the story is finished
@@Rockalwayscookingchannel The only way there would be another season is if they make the prequel novel into a movie. The series is done, other than that. XD
@@markchristensen23 happy new year
the land of the dead traumatized me when I read the books as a kid, I had literal panic attacks for months after that lol
Una de las mejores series del 2022. Extraordinaria adaptación
Guy adapted Paradise Lost into a humanist anti-Narnia
Spoilers 😬
It's like avatar where in Indian culture type
"Sraf", is known as Infinite Intelligence, on this Outer Physical Plane of Planet Terra/Earth. 💯
You've been discerning the show correctly. Well done
Still dont understand why they didnt make an actual spyglass?
Just a giannt contact lens. Lol
I thought that too, but I figured it was a case of fitting as much into limited airtime. I enjoyed it but seeing a proper spyglass like the third book cover would be cool
especially since she had to cut her original lens in two to get the proper viewing angle and then her friend made her the case so she didn't have to hold it out all the time
Probably a bunch of reasons. Keeping it 'earthier' reinforces the symbiosis with the earth. Mary didn't take anything with her to make a spyglass, and it certainly doesn't look like the Mulefa would be able to make telescopes either. And ultimately it's not like she really benefits from a zoom setting. They'd probably need to dedicate a whole montage to her building it that wouldn't add to anything, and ultimately she doesn't really need a lens at all, just a relatively smooth piece enough not to distort anything.
Those Things AKA Those Creatures look like one of those Prehistoric Mammals from South America.
I'm a fan of Dark material but the adaptation of the book 3 didn't like it. So many things were omitted and people who haven't read the book wouldn't get so much.
I AM SORRY BUT ISNT LYRA ABOUT 12 IN THE BOOK AND LITTERALLY AROUND @$ IN THE SHOW!!!!
I remember reading this part in the books years ago. I never thought it would look this modern
The books were alright but this adaptation is garbage
Absolutely brilliant and a fantastic adaptation ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
AI ANSIEDADE 😢😢😢😢
What is the name of this thing again this creature
Trippy
Asian or Indian concept since ancient time
The best series i have ever seen. ❤
Interesting spin to make the authority not be god. That’s not quite how it went in the books, but I appreciate it’s a necessary spin to put on it to be able to show the show in the US 🤷🏼♀️
I think you need to reread the books 😂😂
In the book the Authority was not God- or the creator, he was the first angel, and told his followers he was, but it was a lie
I was afraid that after the bears I'd have nothing else to look foreward to but the Mulefa look so cool
Reminds me of and old creatures from a disappear island is so beautiful right ?
It doesn´t seem like the wheels are a necessity for them which misses the whole pont of their existence. What a pity.
Isn't my death
Tapirus
tapir???
Personally I don't like the design of the show's mulefa, they don't quite fit the book. They look more like tapirs than the diamond body plan described in the book. Instead of having claws inside the nuts they just sit on them
They couldn't make the book version work, somethings in print don't come out in reality. It's the way things go, they did try to do it that way but they felt the result would spoil the image of the mulefas. So, they were forced to adapt it. Evidently Philip Pullman was still satisfied with it. Some things just can't be designed.
What is the name of movie
His dark materials
Computers are the home the Mulefas.
I came here looking for a reference to that video and found it thank you very much😂
"If the kid was fatter then the show would've been a masterpiece."
-Steven Spielberg (maybe)
I heard JK Rowling is richest in England
Ending where those 2 kids talk about loving each other forever cracks me up😂😂
So basically the writer of this book wants to influence us to take Enoch into the abyss. Makes sense since the fallen angels were condemned by him.
This show was all over the place.
I agree with you up until the 5th episode, from there it is fantastic with just a few nitpicks
Bro isn’t this the plot to avatar
The spyglass is a disappointment
I hope you don’t mean the season
It was pretty good I think, not as good as season 1 and 2 but definitely not a “disappointment”. Honestly it’s amazing we even got a 3rd season considering the fact it was delayed with covid etc.
@@theotheseaeagle I would say it was much more emotional and epic than both previous seasons, especially with episode 7

I just wish they'd cast the leads better. The CGI and VFX are beautiful though.
The leads are fine. Problem is they have no chemistry "above" friends. The love-story doesn't work. Acting and everything else is fine though...
@@peterpain6625 Yeah, maybe it's a lack of chemistry. You might be right. I did feel that departing from the book didn't bring more to the story, less in fact.
Still, wasn't too bad and the villains were good.
@@peterpain6625in the book Lyras and Wills love arc occurs much earlier on. Whilst in the series it’s basically only for one episode and then in that exact same episode they get told they can’t be together lol
@@theotheseaeagle I don't think that's right, lol. The love story only happens at the very end. The kiss scene is pretty much the same, in fact. They only fall in love after the war when they're in the Mulefa world.
They have loads of chemistry, they have had it all the way through this. It feels like people want to find things wrong with it. I have loved this show and the whole cast.
Unpopular opinion: I never watched the show because the name of it somehow makes me cringe.
Yes, it's a me problem.
You oughta give it a shot! It's not perfect but I liked it. Good adaptation of great books.
@@Merlincat007 my favourite character was Lord Asriel. Shame he never found peace. Surely he dies....
read the books!
You missed a great show then.
This is one of those shows that hbo needs to be cancel
This last season was horrible!
It was my favorite one! What didn't you like?
@@Merlincat007 For few people it felt rushed and few other plots of the story were not focused like the mulefas and all.
@@yashenumulla4068 That's fair, but IMO it didn't take away from the season too much!
hmm i saw the comments of people who read the books and apparently there was a lot of potential. There was an actual amber spyglass also made, not just the lens.
