I think Nicole Kidman did great job with the role in the movie and I think she also would've nailed it in the series I think all actors in the movie could've done as well in the series but I wouldn't trade any of the actors that played in the series either I love both and all.
I think this Lyra was much better though but possibly because she was a bit older and you could connect to her more
I absolutely agree. Mrs Coulter is Such a complex character and Ruth portrays her in such an impeccable way
She deserved an Emmy for both season 1 & now for season 2 as well
yes definitely, but also Dafne Keen plays absolutely fantastic
@@mydnyghts2988 yes, Ruth deserves all the praise she gets, but it should be extended to Dafne, who is fantastic for her age, and a great actress overall.
they did amazing. this is my favorite adaption ever because you can tell they actually cared about the books they were making the show from.

The scene with Lee and Mrs. coulter. Not in the books, but just wow, was beautiful.

This show is phenomenal.
When I saw the Golden Compass the movie it kinda confuses me since I don't read the book, am from Indonesia and not familiar with it. Yet when I saw the 1st season of this series am instantly fell in love with it. Season 2 is even so more phenomenal and I can't wait for season 3. All the actors, the production quality and the story just top notch for me, I loooove the shows so much.

This show is so well-written with beautiful sceneries, great CGI-s, and fantastic acting! Amazing gem!
I've seen every single episode of His Dark Materials with my wife and we both thoroughly enjoy it.
I want to point something out that just shows how much respect they really have for the source material. I don't think they say "The Golden Compass" once.
That wasn't the original book title. They changed it for American production.
Everyone is so specific and so knowledgeable. It's really refreshing.
“The Golden Compasses” (plural) WAS actually the original title before Pullman changed it to His Dark Materials. The US publisher did get attached to this name although they used the singular “compass”, which is obviously wrong
@@krisallen1583 The Golden Compass is only the name of the first book in the trilogy tho. The second one is called The Subtle Knife and the 3rd one being The Amber Spyglass...

The one of many things they do right: make Ms. Coulter a dimension she deserves, a troubled minded, bipolar and power driven woman who sacrifice everything, for the safe of her daughter. I mean everything, like giving her own daughter sleep inducing potion, and lie to an angel.

thank you to the entire cast and crew for your devotion to the books and the worlds created by Pullman. it really shines through.
My compliments to the producers and writers of this show for staying true to the books!!!!! There are too many book-to-screen adaptations that are lost in translation because the writer(s) want to inject "their" own story lines into the adaptation by thinking "they" know better than the author of the original books. I never thought these books would be adapted to the screen, but I am glad to see that they have faithfully done so.
This show is so underappreciated. It deserves so much more recognition and attention.
The work that has gone into HDM is nothing short of phenomenal. I've not been this enthralled in a series for ages!!

Despite my many problems with the show, just the fact that it was made and it's not terrible is worth celebrating. This was a difficult world to put on screen no matter how you spin it, and the production team did a bang-up job.

Try the books. Wrapping your grey matter around Phillip Pullman’s descriptions takes one heck of an imagination and it’s brilliant.

Just think, what if he had had an itch or a bird flew past his window or his phone rang, he might never have caught that moment of inspiration.
I remember the previous version with Nicole Kidman, was also a great version.

I would like this to be on 4K blu-ray, no idea why it isn't.
Hopefully one day it will (or will be upscaled) but if they wanted to do 4k justice they would have to shoot in 4k... Then if they shot in 4k the image would have to be downscaled to a Full HD/HD screen..In either case you lose image quality or smoothness. I think the market for people wanting a true 4k picture simply isnt there. The money would be better spent on the effects, post-production e.t.c.
Remember the series is meant for home viewing and not IMAX/Cinema size screens.
Im not part of the production so I wouldnt know but I expect thats why.

Material was primarily recorded In UHD in Prores 444 converted to EXR files for VFX and colour managed with an ACES workflow through to the grade by Jean-Clément Soret at Technicolor.
Season 2, which has been shot back-to-back with the first series, has shifted to the Sony Venice camera recording native 6K to allow for more re-racking and reframing of the image in post."

It actually gets even sillier than that because unless you have a 4k monitor none of the above is relevant. If however you do but it isnt a Smart TV you will need to get an HDMI cable and that has to be HDMI 2. If your TV does not have an HDMI 2 port and you only have HDMI 1 the format will be compressed as HDMI 1 isnt able to transfer enough Data....

I dont like they didnt make battle/war between lord asriel's legion vs magisterium vs angel like in the books. In books version way much better.. and about the land of the dead. Book's version still the best.

They tried but as soon as they got the 'Armoured Bear' armour on the bears ran away in full garb.
There's now a small army of escaped, bullet-proof armoured, bears roaming the arctic.
