Okay for anyone doing this setup a month later after this video. the ISO's go into the GAMES folder that OPENGOAL Creates NOT the Iso folder. then in the decky plugin you can install the games. Hope this helps you! great video again. thank you for this!
Playing natively is basically like playing a game that was designed for PC/Linux, so you're not using all that extra processing power by your steam deck "pretending" to be a PS2 by emulating the hardware as well as running the game itself. The main benefits are a significant bump in performance and stability, and also much lower power consumption. Playing natively, you should be able to play this for 6 hours (or possibly more) on a full charge.
I played this PC port and have played emulated versions like the PS4 one, and this PC port looks nicer and plays smoother, I think its well worth the effort to get it running.
I put the iso file in and then downloaded but it won't let me play it's just grayed out, it says it's alreading installed, it won't let me add shortcut either
this is dope!! 2. questions. 1. is it the same visual quality as if i was to emulate the game ? 2. u mentioned either Jak 1 or 2, does that mean i get get BOTH games to run natively then and do they both hit 🤔 60 fps ps constant?
It does not want to create a shortcut in gaming mode. Ive tried everything and i installed it in the open goal plugin but when i press the white create a shortcut button nothing happens. No message or that it gets greyed out. Nothing. I even installed the pal and us versions and downloaded everything again. I have the right name jak1.iso in the isos older of open goal but its not working
You probably could add the game as a Non-Steam game and change to the Target, Start in and Launch options to point to OpenGoal program. Just guessing here. I had to do that method to get Armored Core Nexus for ps2 to show up in my steam library cuz Emudeck/Steam Rom Manager would not add it for me
This was amazing, thank you! However, have you noticed that Jak is running way faster than normal or that the rolling jumps aren't a thing in Open Goal (or did I somehow mess up)?
Hi, thanks for watching ✌🏻 I've not noticed it's any faster tbh, but I've not played it for years so it may not have been obvious to me. Is it ridiculous fast/unplayable for you, or quite subtle?
@@Sneaky_racoon_sly I tried looking it up. It seems that Naughty dog made the "Open" engine specifically for Jak and Daxter, then, they shared the code with Insomniac so that they could make R&C. Insomniac used it, but also heavily modified it and shared it back with Naughty dog so that they could use it too for their next games. It seems that Insomniac and Naughty dog used to do this kind of thing a lot in their early days, when they were in the same building
@@jenyaconiello6212 rift apart plays well but since ps3 he lost his ps2 character and went boring and just a normal good guy. There is no conflict.or any interesting dialogue in the games anymore because of it. Its just like a kids movie where the good defeats the bad. Very boring
Somehow I remembered I still have my original Jak and Daxter PS2 disc after watching this It's scratched up to all hell so I just bought the trilogy. Here's hoping they get 3 up and running soon!
@@NerdZap i already installed decky loader and developer mode but the current file for linux is not a zip file. i got it to run in desktop mode but r1 of my ps5 controller opened a task manager while playing the game and the camera showed the mouse coursor. on gaming mode it didnt want to launch at all. jesus i hate pcs. they never do what you tell them. i think i sell my steam deck and buy a framemeister for my ps2
@@Sneaky_racoon_sly The file you download from opengoal should be the "Decky plugin", don't select the Linux option for this guide. Select the arrow to the right of the download button and be sure to select Decky Plugin, it will be a zip file 🤞

Just installed it as your instructions, absolutely smooth as butter, thanks 👍
No problem ✌️ enjoy!

I moved the iso to the games folder like you said and opengoal was not able to install. I moved the iso to the iso folder ot worked.
what about now? the games folder now has folders for jak 1 and 2. now the games crash at launch even tho it says already installed.
I gave this a go on Bazzite. The shortcut from Steam's menu didn't work, but it did launch using the file explorer and Jak 1 runs perfectly
Jak 1 worked for one playthrough and now it crashes when I try to launch it. Jak 2 works just fine.
Is there any advantage to playing it natively over emulated or does it work practically the same?

does this support jak 3 yet?

for the shortcut you have to restart steam
wich other games from ps2 like jak and silent hill 2 got a good fan made pc mode?

Ps: get rid of that useless opengoal plug in lol
Did you find a fix?
@@Hdcharless sadly no. I gave up. If you find a solution please write me
How to install it in the micro SD instead? Cuz the games are installed directly in the SSD drive.

Is it possible to do it with Ratchet and clank games too? They run on the same engine for what I know
No…
they run on the kinetica engine wich was made by sony santa monica

I found Ratchet and Clank on the steam store, which is a bit easier than porting it. I think it might be on sale right now too!

what iso i need?
shortcut maker do not work for me ;c
Is there already a fix for this?
You guys think after jak3 they will do the Daxter game ?
daxter wasn't written with GOAL, so no. But PPSPP emulates it perfectly anyway.
