    I wonder if there is a way to make a seamless pattern using these principles. Of course, the newer versions can do it automatically, which is nice. Thank you!

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  2 роки тому

      Yep, of course. I have a lot of videos on making patterns in Photoshop. This is one that might help you: ua-cam.com/video/nknOXAB9e4M/v-deo.html
      It doesn't use the new tool so you should be able to get a result using this process. If your shape is made up of multiple layers you would be well advised to flatten these multiple layers into one layer before making your pattern - that will ensure that all the pieces have a chance of staying together.

    tobe able to see the Center Point for rotation you need to do this..."The reference point is hidden by default. To show the reference point , click select the check box next to the reference point locator in the options bar. "

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  5 років тому +1

      Good point. If you don’t see the center of rotation point this will help. Thanks for contributing to the conversation Pat - most appreciated.

    • @HelenBradley

      If you want to do this in Photoshop then look up pattern making in Photoshop - although, if you have access to Illustrator and don't know either program too well, then start with Illustrator.

    I have 2 questions, only if you have the time to answer them :
    1 - why do you choose 'pixels' in the control panel in the begining and not 'shape' before creating the shapes
    2- Do professionals of pattern design use photoshop since even what is called 'vector shapes' remain pixelated when we zoom on them in PS and are also pixelated when we print them. Isn't Illustrator an obligation for creating that kind of design if you do it for professional purposes? I am a bit lost with that. I am learning and do not know what a printer (or print worker, not sur how you call them) would say about that. Cheers. Nathalie

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  6 років тому

      Great questions Natalie. The reason I chose pixels and not
      shape was to create a bitmap layer rather than a shape that could be edited. It
      was just a matter of personal preference. You should get the same results pretty much
      if you use shape. As for pattern design you
      can use Photoshop or Illustrator. You'll just want to make sure that you create
      a large enough document if you use Photoshop so that the pixelization won't be
      a problem. Many designers use Photoshop for pattern design and that's just fine.
      If you are working with a print shop you'll probably want to ask them what format
      they wand the file in so that you can provide that to them. The type of file you provide might determine that
      you are best to use Photoshop or illustrator or it may not matter.
