Pretty interesting review man, I can see why the book seemed appealing to you before reading it. Based on what you said and the publication year, I wonder if the author was trying to make a commentary on the war that had just started at that time (Gulf war). BTW, speaking of shell-shock, George Carlin has a great bit on it and the way the term was adopted in our vernacular, highly recommend it. Great video!
