The most stunning shocking most touching part of the series was watching Elena burn her house and turn her emotions off. I had chills all over my body even rewatching it over and over.
The world building in the originals is also top tier! Its so believable and as a vampire diaries fan, the originals is equally as gripping, but in a different way.
I'm currently about halfway through S1 of The Originals after completing TVD for the first time. I was looking forward to it because I love Klaus and the originals lore, but so far I'm really struggling to get into it. Would you say it gets better than S1, or am I unlikely to love it if I'm not already?
Stay with it!! I felt the same and then I ended up loving it so much. It was so much more emotional for me than TVD. Less teen romance and more family. And I loved all the characters ugh.
I agree. 100%. The Originals is soooooo good!! First time watched them both, I didn’t watch them in tandem with each other for the crossover timelines, but every re-watch I do. And I’ve lost count of the number of rewatches. I love them both soooooo much!! I’ve only watched Legacies once - and it was just for the OGs really.

The stuff that gagged me at the time was anything with Klaus, especially when it was revealed that Stefan knew him! The originals are one of my fave parts of the show, you should watch that next! An awesome thing to watch is this EW series breaking down the show with the creators and actors, Nina talks a lot about playing Elena and Katherine in her episode!

YES!! I grew up watching it while it was airing with my parents and then rewatching it as like a ten year old, then a teenager, and now I rewatch it all the time as an adult and it's just such a layered show that you see and understand new things every single time you watch it and ugh! I think Ally would love it because of all the deeper meanings behind it, as well as just for the entertainment value it provides!
You should DEFINITELY watch Buffy! TVD was my favorite vampire show (I watched it as it was airing) but I discovered Buffy during Covid and it literally laid the groundwork for TVD/future vampire media. Anyway so happy you enjoyed The Vampire Diaries! I still have a soft spot for that show.
Hey, this might be random but i just wanted to say thanks for leaving this comment, it was the first one I saw when I opened the video which peaked my interest enough that I actually started Buffy :D I've never watched the show before but you inspired me and I have now binged so many episodes!
I didn't make it through the show when it was airing live (I bailed sometime in S5), but I decided to give it a go recently, started at the beginning and made it almost all of the way through S7, but turned it off again. Perhaps I'll pick it up someday and finish it, but 7 is baaaaaad. The first 4 seasons are so awesome.
Absolutelly not!!! Don't speak for everybody, giving very FALSE information. Season 7 is beautifully written, incredibly well acted, and they step up on the cinematografy aspect too. Also it's crutial to understand the brothers personality why they act the way they do, It's very grown up an psycological. It has two of the best episodes of the entire show, 11 and 17 where Ian and Paul give a masterfull acting performance. So no, only kids and poorly educated people don't like season 7.

Klaus was the best part of this show! The interesting thing is that I was not a Delena fan when I first watched but I was during rewatch!! It still always surprises me that you just watched this show recently!!!
Funny it's kinda the opposite for me. I was completely team delena when I watch the show as it was aired but as I'm currently rewatching it as a grown up guy, it doesn't work as much anymore. What didn't change is that I'm still rooting for Steferine, even tho the writers really did Katherine dirty with the season 4/5.
I started watching season 2 onwards and am so thankfulll. The episodes that gagged the most, season 1 finale, hands down that Katherine reveal will go down in history. Season 2 episodes Masquerade and Rose being back to back bangers that changed the course of the show forever by introducing the iconic originals. The first 10 episodes in season 3 the writers were eating down, brilliant, showstopping, never been done before. Season 3 finale GAGGED.

This show was my life in middle school! I remember always looking up the teasers and theories for the next episodes on this TVD blog. And when I saw the teaser for 1x19 (didn't even have to look up the episode number) of Damon and Elena dancing it was the most excited I had ever been in my life. I remember writing theories on this show in my diary. Oh to be a teenage girl again! The most shocking for me was definitely the season 1 finale katherine/Elena reveal. Had me gagged.

I wanted to put in my vote for Buffy! One of my favorite parts of Buffy is how much that show has influenced the genre. I see echoes of it in all teen dramas with supernatural elements. It is so fun to see how many careers it launched. I also recommend watching its sister show Angel. There are some cross over episodes. I did my best to watch them in the order they would have aired on TV. Happy watching!

23:05 i always thought Damon would drain Elena's blood to get the cure and become human. when Katherine was drained, it was mentioned that she would start aging. since she lived for 500+ years she aged real quick. but Elena on the other hand wasnt a vampire for that long, soo she would age and still be alive

I definitely think there was one in Lily’s too, but they didn’t really go there as much so I think there was no chance for them to think of that. It would’ve been really interesting though! I feel like Rebekah could’ve taken it, but they probably wanted her around for the originals

This show was so well written for a while! It was a blessing that episodes were only released once a week because we got to watch each at least three times. We got to pick up on every single detail in the story, the character development, the fashion, the set design, you name it. It was just so rich. I had the same experience with PLL for a while. Then I suppose they didn't want to give the writers their well-deserved pay raises, so they left, and for the last few seasons the rest (the set design, the fashion, etc) just fell flat. And yes, we have since found out the VD set was very racist, and it included some of the male supporting actors too, so I don't think I would ever be able to re-watch it again due to the disdain those men give me.
@@AllySheehan I'm not sure exactly because there were a lot of people involved and apparently there was a lot of behind-the-scenes drama and headbutting going on, but I think from Season 5 onward the show started going downhill. I personally didn't even watch the last few seasons.
Buffy is so so good, but I’m currently binging Smallville and let me tell you, I AM OBSESSED!!! So I’m going to recommend you watch that next, but I am biased haha
As someone who *is* a fantasy girlie, I honestly think that the “everything has to be perfectly logical hard magic systems” Reddit lore bros make fantasy feel SO much more intimidating than it is and I’m so mad about that! Good worldbuilding (even in epic high fantasy) should never feel like it’s getting in the way of the story, it’s only meant to enhance it. I’m glad you finally caught the invisible string and watched the Vampire Diaries anyway!

The thing I remember most about the fandom on Tumblr back in the day (aside from the obvious shipping discourse for every possible ship) was the trend at the time that on April Fools, at least one popular blog would post an absolutely BONKERS episode description for the 'next' episode (it was about 3 episodes out from what was airing, descriptions came out 2-3 weeks before the episode would air). I'm pretty sure there was one where someone (Matt maybe??) would be revealed to be a mermaid/merman. And then, when you clicked on the source link, it would be a rick roll or link to something April Fools related.

So fun and refreshing to hear about the show from someone who hasn't seen it before!! Love!! I watched the episodes weekly with my sisters as they were coming out. I vividly remember all three of us crying our eyes out when Alaric was dying so that he wouldn't become a vampire with Be Still by The Fray playing in the background, still get emotional hearing that song hahah It’s crazy that TVD, Glee, PLL and Teen Wolf were all airing at the same time, we were so fed!! Would definitely recommend watching Teen Wolf, but maybe watch a non-supernatural show first in between, cause that show is also a lot! The show Awkward that aired on MTV is also so amazing/dumb and def worth a watch as well as one of my all time faves Ugly Betty which I rewatch yearly, you’ll be shook how many broadway stars have cameos!! You should watch Smallville for sure! It's an origin story for Supeman and it's so good, you have the Clark and Lois love story which is for the ages. Also, maybe you should watch just bc Taylor has a song called superman and you can relate it to the show (kinda) lol

I still remember writing facebook posts on my cousins site and her on mine (whoever watched it first wrote the post and the other one commented on it after watching) every week when a new episode aired. The midseason finales where always a big thing and the #roadtriptoDEnver had the Delena-fandom in a frenzy. That motel kiss was something else and I remember people also actually saying that Nina said "Ian" during the scene but noone can here because music is playing and it is muted. I think it was even in the worldwide trends on Twitter. Also the "He's your first love, I intend to be your last" delivered by Klaus so lovingly to Caroline was a moment for pretty much the whole fandom. And playing "O come all ya faithful" while Klaus drowns Taylors Mum will also be forever iconic. for Cast-moments/drama: when it got out that Nina and Ian were dating way back when that was a pretty big thing for the fandom. On the other hand I do remember some drama about Julie happening at the time but can't remember what it was and then there was the whole Matt Davis maybe acting inappropriate towards some of the actresses but I don't think anything was ever confirmed. My thought for the whole doppelganger soulmate question: I think they wanted to use it as an "look this love between Damon and Elena is so strong it even overcomes fate" That would also mean that yes Elenas doppelganger counterpart should have been Tom but Stefans wouldn't have been Kathrine as Kathrine was roughly 350 older than Stefan so they never could have ended up together. That is a hole in that theory which a lot of fanon explains by there being doppelgangers we don't know about. So Silas and Amara, Kathrine and some bloke we never got to see, Stefan and another doppelganger and than Elena and Tom. Which also defeats the pint they make in one of the first seasons about how doppelgangers only come about every 500 years. But that is defeated anyways even with Kat being Stefans doppelganger counterpart. I think by then they just forgot about other info they gave out in earlier seasons. And as much as I loved Delena back then. When I read fanfiction now I drift more towards Klaulena, Kolena or Elejah. Don't know why but I love them and I stand by that

@ i think the writers did a great job of making you care about the characters in a very similar way to tvd, so even if youre not as obsessed you’ll grow to like them a lot more! unless you really dislike them and dont care for their family dynamics since that is kind of the point of the show lol
So I've never watched TVD but I loved watching this video. It was interesting despite not having much context (I was on Tumblr when the show was big so like, I'm not completely TVD blind) but I've been a fan of Candice King for many years now and because of that I've always wanted to know stuff about TVD but I could never watch it because vampires are one of my biggest will give me nightmares for certain things so thankyou for making this video and I would absolutely wanna see your character ranking. This show was my life in middle school! I remember always looking up the teasers and theories for the next episodes on this TVD blog. And when I saw the teaser for 1x19 (didn't even have to look up the episode number) of Damon and Elena dancing it was the most excited I had ever been in my life. I remember writing theories on this show in my diary. Oh to be a teenage girl again!
The most shocking for me was definitely the season 1 finale katherine/Elena reveal. Had me gagged.

I wanted to put in my vote for Buffy! One of my favorite parts of Buffy is how much that show has influenced the genre. I see echoes of it in all teen dramas with supernatural elements. It is so fun to see how many careers it launched. I also recommend watching its sister show Angel. There are some cross over episodes. I did my best to watch them in the order they would have aired on TV. Happy watching!

23:05 i always thought Damon would drain Elena's blood to get the cure and become human. when Katherine was drained, it was mentioned that she would start aging. since she lived for 500+ years she aged real quick. but Elena on the other hand wasnt a vampire for that long, soo she would age and still be alive

I definitely think there was one in Lily’s too, but they didn’t really go there as much so I think there was no chance for them to think of that. It would’ve been really interesting though! I feel like Rebekah could’ve taken it, but they probably wanted her around for the originals

This show was so well written for a while! It was a blessing that episodes were only released once a week because we got to watch each at least three times. We got to pick up on every single detail in the story, the character development, the fashion, the set design, you name it. It was just so rich. I had the same experience with PLL for a while. Then I suppose they didn't want to give the writers their well-deserved pay raises, so they left, and for the last few seasons the rest (the set design, the fashion, etc) just fell flat. And yes, we have since found out the VD set was very racist, and it included some of the male supporting actors too, so I don't think I would ever be able to re-watch it again due to the disdain those men give me.
truly, the writing and acting was SO much better than i expected!!!

@@AllySheehan I'm not sure exactly because there were a lot of people involved and apparently there was a lot of behind-the-scenes drama and headbutting going on, but I think from Season 5 onward the show started going downhill. I personally didn't even watch the last few seasons.

As someone who *is* a fantasy girlie, I honestly think that the “everything has to be perfectly logical hard magic systems” Reddit lore bros make fantasy feel SO much more intimidating than it is and I’m so mad about that! Good worldbuilding (even in epic high fantasy) should never feel like it’s getting in the way of the story, it’s only meant to enhance it. I’m glad you finally caught the invisible string and watched the Vampire Diaries anyway!

The thing I remember most about the fandom on Tumblr back in the day (aside from the obvious shipping discourse for every possible ship) was the trend at the time that on April Fools, at least one popular blog would post an absolutely BONKERS episode description for the 'next' episode (it was about 3 episodes out from what was airing, descriptions came out 2-3 weeks before the episode would air). I'm pretty sure there was one where someone (Matt maybe??) would be revealed to be a mermaid/merman. And then, when you clicked on the source link, it would be a rick roll or link to something April Fools related.

So fun and refreshing to hear about the show from someone who hasn't seen it before!! Love!! I watched the episodes weekly with my sisters as they were coming out. I vividly remember all three of us crying our eyes out when Alaric was dying so that he wouldn't become a vampire with Be Still by The Fray playing in the background, still get emotional hearing that song hahah It’s crazy that TVD, Glee, PLL and Teen Wolf were all airing at the same time, we were so fed!! Would definitely recommend watching Teen Wolf, but maybe watch a non-supernatural show first in between, cause that show is also a lot! The show Awkward that aired on MTV is also so amazing/dumb and def worth a watch as well as one of my all time faves Ugly Betty which I rewatch yearly, you’ll be shook how many broadway stars have cameos!!

Barely into the video, but had to comment. Please give Supernatural a watch! If you like shows about brothers, dipping your toes into fantasy/supernatural/lore-heavy content, and excited about the idea of tumblr fandom, Supernatural is a must-watch.
You should watch Smallville for sure! It's an origin story for Supeman and it's so good, you have the Clark and Lois love story which is for the ages. Also, maybe you should watch just bc Taylor has a song called superman and you can relate it to the show (kinda) lol

I still remember writing facebook posts on my cousins site and her on mine (whoever watched it first wrote the post and the other one commented on it after watching) every week when a new episode aired. The midseason finales where always a big thing and the #roadtriptoDEnver had the Delena-fandom in a frenzy. That motel kiss was something else and I remember people also actually saying that Nina said "Ian" during the scene but noone can here because music is playing and it is muted. I think it was even in the worldwide trends on Twitter.
Also the "He's your first love, I intend to be your last" delivered by Klaus so lovingly to Caroline was a moment for pretty much the whole fandom. And playing "O come all ya faithful" while Klaus drowns Taylors Mum will also be forever iconic.
for Cast-moments/drama: when it got out that Nina and Ian were dating way back when that was a pretty big thing for the fandom. On the other hand I do remember some drama about Julie happening at the time but can't remember what it was and then there was the whole Matt Davis maybe acting inappropriate towards some of the actresses but I don't think anything was ever confirmed.
My thought for the whole doppelganger soulmate question: I think they wanted to use it as an "look this love between Damon and Elena is so strong it even overcomes fate" That would also mean that yes Elenas doppelganger counterpart should have been Tom but Stefans wouldn't have been Kathrine as Kathrine was roughly 350 older than Stefan so they never could have ended up together. That is a hole in that theory which a lot of fanon explains by there being doppelgangers we don't know about. So Silas and Amara, Kathrine and some bloke we never got to see, Stefan and another doppelganger and than Elena and Tom. Which also defeats the pint they make in one of the first seasons about how doppelgangers only come about every 500 years. But that is defeated anyways even with Kat being Stefans doppelganger counterpart. I think by then they just forgot about other info they gave out in earlier seasons.
And as much as I loved Delena back then. When I read fanfiction now I drift more towards Klaulena, Kolena or Elejah. Don't know why but I love them and I stand by that

@ i think the writers did a great job of making you care about the characters in a very similar way to tvd, so even if youre not as obsessed you’ll grow to like them a lot more! unless you really dislike them and dont care for their family dynamics since that is kind of the point of the show lol

So I've never watched TVD but I loved watching this video. It was interesting despite not having much context (I was on Tumblr when the show was big so like, I'm not completely TVD blind) but I've been a fan of Candice King for many years now and because of that I've always wanted to know stuff about TVD but I could never watch it because vampires are one of my biggest will give me nightmares for certain things so thankyou for making this video and I would absolutely wanna see your character ranking.
