I was born in 1940 & watched this show from the beginning, Their dance steps were the same as ours in New Orleans, We had dances every weekend at certain Catholic gyms with bands. The greatest of times with the greatest of music!!!!!
I was born in '47 and still remember some of those dances. Now we have zip zero nothing for dances, at least around here. Now it seems that the only chance for men and women to meet is an online dating service. What a joke.
Now this is how to have a sock hop. Teens in 2022 don't have these amazing dances or times. So glad in lived in a time where teens went to dances. No shootings or killings. Only dancing with the one you would later marry. Fifty-three years and going strong.
Philly was the best...Cali not...and l grew up in Cali moved to Jersey too late BS moved. Really like these old videos GREAT PERIOD IN TIME. Still dance and teach it...
Watched this show when I was 5...ballet class to BS...it was a really nice period in time. I ended up majoring in dance and I am still teaching, those dances were lots of fun and I tell my students to look up these videos.
The best dancers in the world. Dancing to the best music that will never be duplicated. I could never dance worth a damn but soon learned that just holding that special girl in your arms was what made the dance. I am betting that you were/are the best dancer ever.
What impressed me the most about this video was the "cheek to cheek"style of slow dancing. Guys, wasn't it great to dance cheek to cheek with different girls? You got a great hint of her perfume, you held her hand with confidence. You were leading, she was following your movements as girls instinctively knew how. Even though I am 80 years old now, I can remember Suzanne's perfume, Denise's perfume, Joan's perfume....
I (born in '47, starting watching as soon as the show hit Seattle) loved Pat, and my brother (born in '49) loved Frani. Though I found Frani very attractive, I especially liked Pat's dancing, both fast and slow. I couldn't get enough of those dance steps and never found anyone, out here, who could teach me! I "suffer" every time I watch the shows from the '50's! Anyone know where one can see clips other than on YT? I've seen almost all of the old ones.
Dick Clark`s American Band Stand , I watched in the afternoon after school. On saturday evenings it was Dick Clark`s Beachnut Show , that can be seen on U-tube . Has anyone noticed that the better looking girls were on the dance floor ?
Kudos! Nice job creating this video from a poor quality kine scope. You added a high quality audio track and made this video very watchable. I wish that I could enjoy a small portion of your creativity!
I always felt sorry for the girls who were not asked to dance and just had to sit there and watch, though there would always be some girls who would just dance with each other.
Unfortunately, I was not the right age to be on American Bandstand when this song came out. I must have been six or seven years old. But if I could , I would have loved to dance on Bandstand.
Ernest Castro Hello again, Ernest. Sometimes you will see the same film selection put to a different song. I am pretty certain this was not the song they danced to on the original clip and you will see it again with other songs. I am amazed at how close it comes to their dance moves even when not the correct selection. These film clips are indeed rare--and unlike many who believe many were not made available by Dick Clark, I do not believe that is so. I truly believe that there are very few in the archives from the years 1957 thru 1961. I have heard a few good explanations. It is true that Dick Clark guarded the ones that were available, but do not fault him too much, as there are often other reasons why the clips could not be shown--recording artists rights, etc.
+marshasvintage I've got the actual full show American Bandstand dated 12-18-57 Christmas show, the actual song that's playing is JOANN by the Time Twins same year the version by the Playmates (Beep, Beep) hit the Top Ten.
I watch these AB videos a LOT and contrary to popular belief, not every girl wore poodle skirts, pony tails and saddle shoes, infact I've yet to see a single solitary girl dressed like such.. If you believe the media and happy days, every single girl dressed like that. it may have been a brief fad but man..do you see any of that here, or in any of the videos?
+petals49 somewhere near 37 seconds into the song you can spot both sisters Mary and Rosalie Beltrante, the artist signing autographs hit maker Georgia Gibbs
Most of these early videos were created from kine scope recordings which were 16mm cameras that photographed a television monitor. This was in the era before video tape and the only way to record live television programs. Many kine scope recordings had high contrast and poor video resolution; some were good, but most were of fair to poor quality.

So you watched it when Paul Whiteman was the host and Dick Clark was his announcer?

Frani was gorgeous and Pat had so much charisma it makes an old man tear up with nostalgia!

Yes, Rob I was born in 1950 and looked up to all of those teens! They were stars!
I think every guy I knew had a crush on Frannie Giordano. Heck, I was only 13 first time I saw her back in '58.
The young people today have no idea what is was like to be with your girl when the slow sets started in the disco....it was magical
🎶🎶❤️ Love all the Beautiful memories..❤️🎶
What great dancers ,love watching them
Beam me down, Scotty! (The young men were so handsome and young ladies were so adorable!)
Still such a good song. Good music.
We just lost Fred Paris last week. In 2022. He has now entered the still of the night. God bless him.
LOVE THIS SONG!! ALWAYS WATCHED AB. 👍👏👏❤🕺💃👠👠👄
Remembering the oldies most of us are too old to dance anymore
The Larry Finnigan Dear One song is my favourite. But with almost any music from this era, it's impossible for me to hate any particular song.

What a great song by the Roommates. Doo wop quality for sure. They are so amazingly excellent.
It's the Scarlets, not the Roomates

@@irenedoyon4562 The song from this video of course. "Dear One" by the Scarlets, 1954

The girls look so handsome. And wholesome and just beautiful. Those were the days. Only needed flat dancing shoes. No six-inch Spike shoes

I always felt sorry for the girls who were not asked to dance and just had to sit there and watch, though there would always be some girls who would just dance with each other.

There was also the situation of too many girls and not enough boys you were willing to dance in public and especially on TV.
It's such a great, wonderful sad song by the Scarlets
-Any trouble making juvenile delinquents in black leather jackets were kept out. Some girls might still see them outside though.
Never heard this song before!!
Giorni felici della mia giovinezza, momenti sereni che non sarebbero mai più tornati...

my favorate dance shows were ted steel and jocko rocket ship show
Amo essa época dos meus pais! Queria tanto ter vivido isso. Amo demais!

Great Song! Jesus Loves You My Friends! John 3;16
Época linda onde havia respeito. Os homens e as mulheres se vestiam elegantementes.
I finally got the nerve to go there and ask the girls to dance but it's now a pizza store
If only the world were like this today
Not sure in this video they are dancing to Dear One or another song!

The Ravens- Dear One
The Ravens (minus their great bass singer, Jimmy Ricks) recorded "Dear One" in June, 1957. However, this version was recorded by The Scarlets in 1954.
