Hi Norcal. Hey thanks so much for watching. Yes I simply misspoke. I started the weight in grams of the Rincon which is 204 grams as the weight rather than the 252 grams. Thanks for catching it! I’ll pin this to the top of the comments. Have a great day! Stay safe.
Hi Tim, thank you for this review. I’ve been running for many years but never tried a pair of HOKA’s. This video helped a lot. And I think it’s great that you take time and effort to reply to people, ending it with your ‘stay safe’ wishes. Very kind. Kind regards from the Netherlands, Tom
Glad it was helpful! And thanks so much for all of your kind words. I hope all is going well for you in the Netherlands! Take care and have a great day!
Thanks I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment. I just got the Bondi 7 finally. I'll be doing a review on then soon. The Bondi X is an interesting idea I'm curious what they will be like to run in. Have a great day and stay safe.
Thanks Tim. Glad you did that comparison it explained a lot. I bought the Rincons. Some time ago I vowed never to buy hokas again due to their durability. Hope they don't let me down. Time will tell I guess.. thanks again.
I'd love to try the Rincon v3, but after getting burned with my Rincon v1's and the midsole going flat at 250km, I'm doing most of my runs in the Mach4. Mach4's are at 250km and they are going strong so far. I'm hoping we are going to start seeing long term Rincon v3 reviews so we can see if they retooled the shoe enough to get it's life to the 500KM mark. Great comparison review!
Thanks for taking the time too share your thoughts and experience with the Rincon and the Mach 4. I really enjoy the Mach 4 as well. They are a great day trainer. Have a great day and stay safe.
Hi Tim, Thanks for your review. It seems that you made a little error when you said the Clifton was 8.9 oz or 204 grams. 8.9 oz is around 250 grams. I have the Clifton 7 and currently have around 1100 ks on them (680 miles) and still feel fine except they feel a little flat now. I now have the Clifton 8 as well so hope they perform just as well.
Hey thanks watching. I really appreciate it. And thanks for correcting my weight conversion. I know others appreciate it also. I hope you are having a great weekend. Stay safe!
Hi Tim ...you just passed 3k subscribers lol 👏👏👏😉🇨🇵 great comparison shoe but like i already said i don't like the Cliftons anaymore since the Mach4 are there ...and i can t see what the Ricon3 could give me more ...maybe i m wrong but ...👍😉🇨🇵
I’d love to try the Rincons but your comment on the end about recommending the Clifton over the Rincon for half marathon running left me conflicted. I currently have about 200 miles on a pair of the Clifton 7s and would like to find a Hoka shoe that has the cushion I need but with a more speedy feel. I was hoping the Rincon 3 would be that shoe. Now I’m still not sure!
The Rincon is a great shoe. It's worthy of your consideration. The Clifton is a little more cushioned but I think you'd enjoy the Rincon as well. You can find the Rincon 2 on sale for under $100. You may not get as many miles on them as you will with the Clifton. If you decide to try them hopefully the retailer has a good return policy in case they didn't work out for you. Have a great day. Stay safe.
@@anthony7828 I'd recommend the Mach 5 over the Clifton. I admit I don't have a Clifton 8 (I have the Clifton 7). I always found Cliftons to be a bit too narrow in the toe for me, but every other Hoka I've had was a great fit. I also never really liked the 'ride' of the Clifton, regarding the way it transitions. I could never get my feet to 'land' the right way to feel smooth. Anyways, I got a pair of Mach 5s and immediately LOVED them! I was surprised at how cushiony they were, despite feeling light and fast. I've nearly worn out my first pair of Mach 5s and am getting a second pair. The Mach 5 out-sole doesn't have any dedicated "rubber" but the rubber/foam out-sole holds up "pretty well" considering all of my Mach 5 miles have been on asphalt. Anyways, for me, the Mach 5 is my new favorite Hoka, so that's what I'd choose over a Clifton or Rincon. 😀
Thanks for the video. I have an older pair of Brooks Ghost 10 - which I love. Just the right combination of comfort while maintaining a good sense of the ground. Some of the more cushiony shoes feel a little unstable - like platform shoes. Wondering what Hoka would be most similar to the Ghost?
hello sir, loved your video. I am a regular gym goer but lately i have done two road marathon 5 km. its like 1 marathon in like 3 months or so . now i want to go for the 10 km one however i dont know which shoes to buy clifton 8 or rincon for marathons and for running on treadmill at times. I like to sprint as well when i have had my 2 marathons. I am not a professional marathon runner but a beginner who has ran 2 marathon till date of 5 kms. next one want to go for 10 km road marathon . kindly advice for marathon and running fast on treadmill at times.
The Rincon is a really good choice for your faster efforts like a 5K, and 10K. They are quick and comfortable. Recently I posted a review of the Hoka Mach X. If it is within your budget, I think this would be a really good choice as a shoe that is a great all around daily trainer that you can pick up the pace in. Have a great day and have fun shoe shopping.
Thanks Tim. A fellow Michigan runner here. I appreciate your review. I had the Rincon 2 and destroyed them within 250 miles. A mix of had surface and road should gravel did the trick. Based on your review it sounds like the Clifton 8 would be a better option. I guess its time to go get myself an after Christmas present from Hanson’s.
Hi Tom. It’s always great to connect with a fellow Michigander! I just spent the last 2 hours digging out from last nights snow fall. I’m sure you can relate. The Clifton 7 and 8 are worth checking out for sure. Have fun shoe shopping. Have a great day.
So does the clifton 8 feel as snug as the 7? I had to move to the rincon 2 as the 7s were too tight for me on the midfoot. And the wide too loose... :-(
The Clifton 8's feel more snug than the 7's do. If the 7's were to tight I don't think the 8's will work for you. I'm glad you are enjoying the Rincon's. Have a great day. Stay safe.
Clifton 8 felt a bit too narrow. I’ve also tried the wide Clifton 8, but they were too wide… any insight on width here? How do Rincons compare? Also, saw a comment about Clifton 7s being more wide than 8.. do you recommend I give normal width 7s a try? Looking for that perfect fit!
Hi Andy. I hope all is going well for you. Sorry to hear you are having trouble getting the right fit. That can be really frustrating. If the overall length is fine on the Clifton 8 than there's probably not much more you can do there. Sometimes if you are able to go down 1/2 size in the side version of a shoe you can dial back the width a little when a wide is to wide. The Clifton 7 is a great shoe if you find width on the 7 a better fit overall. The upper on the 7 has a little more stretch and just might be more accommodating for you. The Rincon is a more narrow fit especially in the toe box. It has a more aggressive curve on the lateral side. I hope this helps. Have a great day. Thanks for watching. Happy Holidays. Stay safe.
Great job beginning your running journey! That’s awesome!!!! I’d go with the Clifton 8. It’s a great all around running shoe that’s versatile and comfortable. Have a great day!
Hi, I journey 80 km and in office 6-7 hours need to stay. I need a soft comfortable and light shoe. Please suggest me a shoe, hoka is prefearable. Need your help...
I'd suggest the Clifton. Its Hoka's most popular running shoe. They are lightweight with a soft midsole. Let me know what you decide on. Have fun shoe shopping.
Fantastic review, I use the Clifton 7 for daily training, recovery, long runs and Rincon v1 for speedy workout and races as well. Really glad to see the improvement on those shoes and seems like they also improved the midsole. I feel like the new version next year will be more about the fit?
Awesome. I'm glad you are liking them. Hoka is making some good updates. I'd like to see them utilize their Pro Fly down more. The Mach 4 is a great shoe. It would be awesome to see them use it in the Rincon. Have a great day. Stay safe!
for a heavy guy looking for good cushion but a little more speed for daily training which would you pick: clifton, triumph, or fresh foam 1080? Thanks!
All 3 of these are great daily trainers. I know that a lot of runners with a little more mass than what I have like the Saucony Triumph 19. The midsole is a little more firm but still offers pretty of cushion. Another shoe that bigger runners like a lot is the Nike Invincible Run. I know they have a big price tag but I've seen them on sale for about the same cost as these. I hope this helps. It's always fun to buy new shoes. Enjoy. Good luck with your half marathon training! Have you picked out a race yet? Stay safe and have a great day.
LOL... interesting question. I'm always geared up with all of my safety stuff on including long pants, long sleeve shirt, gloves, and helmet. I took a bad spill one time and knock myself in the head pretty hard. Anyway, thanks for making my laugh. Have a great day and stay safe Vincent.
nobody has the courage to test these shoes against reebok energy 3 :( i have them and they are great. my favorites one from all i have: ride 13, glideride 1, torrent 2, energy 2 (great pair), mizuno wave shadow, and even liberate nitro but i'm still debating....
I like the Rebook FFE 3's. They live up to their name. The midsole does give you that float feeling. Those are some other great choices you've listed as well. Have a great day and stay safe.
