The guy with the green guitar is Bruce Bouillet who was originally a student of Paul's at GIT and did all the harmonies in Racer X. He pursued a solo career when they disbanded and recently rejoined Paul for his GOOMY tour last year after nearly 20 years apart. I saw their concert at the Viper Room and it was truly amazing to see them both in action again. If you ever get a chance to see Paul Gilbert live, GO!
Holy crap, i cant even imagine how awesome it would be to be alive in the 80s and go see metal bands of this era like Racer X, Lynch and Yngwie etc., live.
@@arthurkitchen9582 Paul was 20/21 in this video. Nobody is going to retain this level of dexterity into their 50's. There's inevitable age related decline in fine motor control and hand/eye coordination. It's not noticeable with Eric Clapton type guitarists, but with someone like Paul it'll be obvious. That said, Paul has held onto his shred cred far better than most of his contemporaries.
all on the same label an worked together in the same studio. so not surprising. Shrapnel Records they have a lot of the best shredders from the era. also paul being the one who taught buckethead so see similarities there too
That was awesome to see again. Hadn't seen that since I saw it live back in the late 80s. First time I heard that song was live and I wasn't quite ready for it. Just an amazing band to see live. For all the negative comments about shred vs. feeling if you don't like that style just don't listen to it but don't say its garbage. Any one with any musical ability or training can appreciate how difficult it is to pull that off live.
I met Paul back in 1987 at G.I.T In Atlanta and he gave a whole behind the scenes seminar of his guitar techniques and equipment. Even down to his pick-up confiuration and wiring, He even signed my cassette tape at the end of class, How many of you young farts can say that damnit?
Bruce Bouillet. After Racer X, John and Bruce formed the band The Scream. Their debut with John Corabi on vocals in 1991 is FANTASTIC. You may also know Bruce from a few years ago, Epidemic. They had a song on Madden 07 I think...Walk Away. Video is probably here somewhere.
I just remembered that I got RX live in the 80's and just ignored it. It lies somewhere. What the hell was I thinking? Paul is so fun I could watch him playing on and on without sleeping or eating. Have to drink though, and after that it's just more fun. Not a dull moment with Paul. Scuse me,gotta get a beer.
I first heard this song around '09 and i thought it was a new band, can't believe this masterpiece is almost as old as me. Technical Difficulties is my second fav song.
i learned this song i dont think i could ever play it that fast and clean

@NowaqP :O Great info, thanks for taking time to write it! I guess he should be very pleased with the Wilshires being re-introduced on the Epiphone catalog in that case :D
Paul Gilbert- my second favorite guitarist of all time. Only PG can make a little pink guitar bad-ass! I love the sick bass rundown after the main riff.
A bit of clarification: Racer X's second guitarist is Bruce Bouillet. He played with them for about three years, then kind of disappeared for a while. Now he's with Paul on the G3 Tour
I think the most badass part about me is the fact that my dad was a roadie for Racer X (Lawl, roadie, I know). It's awesome to know that, considering Paul Gilbert is number 2 on my list of top ten most awesome guitarists. But, to get on subject:This song is more badass than anything on the universe. Yeah, even pie and, dare I say it? Cake.
I wasn't fussy on Gilbert before I heard this song, It's convinced me to give him a chance. I like his chromatic adventurism, now if we can combine Vinnie Moore and Paul Gilbert, that'd be great.
This looks like the CBS showcase, which was at their rehearsal space called SIR Studios...hence the small audience of record industry folks. Bruce Bouillet rules. His solo on Racer X' first live album has some of the most insane precision sweep-picking ever recorded...its right up there with Jason Becker's "Serrana."
Racer X was too ahead of its time. You'd be hard pressed to find a band that could cover this NOW, let alone in 1987.
You can, however, find a couple Japanese ten year olds who can nail it.....ugh.....
@@allendean9807 🤣🤣🤣
I hope a social worker found a home for those violated guitars.
why?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Came here to remember Juan Alderete in his shredding era, heal soon Juan. My best wishes and all good vibe to you and your family
Bruce Boulliet...awesome, awesome guitarist.
The fact that he could do unison lines with Paul Gilbert is testimony to that
man that is some of the fastest two finger bass playing ever recorded.
Absolutely close like cliff
Cliff wasn’t nearly as fast as Juan/ John was in his prime
Holy crap, i cant even imagine how awesome it would be to be alive in the 80s and go see metal bands of this era like Racer X, Lynch and Yngwie etc., live.
Yep,you missed it..the absolute Best Ever !!
Absolutely killing it!! Juan, Scott, Paul and Bruce showing total command of their instruments.
中学生の時にこのビデオを見た事が僕がギターを始めるキッカケでした!最高です。
I fucking love Scott Travis. He has got to be my favorite drummer of all time.
These guys are elite. Love hearing Vivaldi's influence shining through.
Im a bit late, but this is actually a bach piece theyre playing
SloppyButler Its actualy a Mozart piece, but Paul played it his own way
@@martinmatousek2202 no its Jc Bach, harspichord concerto.
chorus + gain + treble + insane reverb + pink/red/yellow/green guitars = 80's shred
God have mercy that was fast.
JB Johnson unfortunately Paul doesn't play it this fast anyone. Fast is always better

@@mifune9634 Dont Forget MAB still has it
Priceless footage
1:39 dat note!
out of every shredder , Gilbert is the guy who ALWAYS nailed everything live. And this way faster than the LP.
Sounds like something Jason Becker and Marty Friedman would write
all on the same label an worked together in the same studio. so not surprising. Shrapnel Records they have a lot of the best shredders from the era. also paul being the one who taught buckethead so see similarities there too
yeah marty, jason and bruce, Paul are probably the 2 best shred duos of all time
Well you're close. It's Paul Gilbert and Bruce bouillet. Legends in their own right.
You won't see paul Gilbert sweeping like that nowdays

Racer X is by far the most musically talented band to ever inhabit Earth.

BO201250, that's Juan Alderete, known back then as JOHN Alderete...extremely underrated player, and a hell of a nice guy.
Haha, Juan and John almost seem like two different people in terms of style. It's crazy what 20 something years and a few fx pedals can do to a man.
+Ben Bond I think he's in Mars Volta
Ben Bond I've seen it, dude. He seems so awkward and nervous in it! What a great guy.
I suppose...just one of those quiet monsters.
I still want one of those guitars.

amazing song.amazing riffs.amazing beats,& amazing hairstyles.
Great energy!
Can you imagine if you grew up in the 80's and had to watch yourself in videos like this. The hair, the neon guitars..........THE SPANDEX!!
this group is the best, have loved them since the middle of the -80s
What a great song from This band awesome gutair work here

Total awesomeness!!! what a song!
I wish he played it this fast now!
Flawless technique, Bruce.
Lovely guitar.
the double guitar solos are awsome!!

I wanna play a gig like this!!
Someday...
this guitar duo is another pair that i like...along with cacophony's duo, becker and marty...shredding madness!!
that bassist has some of the fastest fingers ive ever seen
I recently went to a bruce boulitte concert and he played Scarified at the end, twas bad ass.
Wow, you know it's the 80's when you play a bright pink guitar. So awesome
My face just melted.............
Epic 80's performance at the finest level.

I've seen these twin kinda coolness only in Double Dragon.. Just how.. Their level of sync and accuracy in this tempo is unbelievable..
wow, excellent band
What the actual fuck. That was inhuman.
The two people in the crowd went wild!
