- Water: A Polar Molecule
In this video Paul Andersen explains how the polarity of water makes life on the planet possible. Oxygen is highly electronegative and pulls the electrons closely creating a partial negative charge. The polarity of water (and the corresponding hydrogen bonds) create cohesion, adhesion, capillary action, high specific heat, and a universally good solvent.

who else is being forced by a teacher to watch this?
+kaya terlaak yup and do a worksheet
+Mixed Chick same here and it's kinda useful but also Mr Anderson always creeps me out on his greeting...
+Onyx Helena Ember-Graves I Know right!!!
YEP
yep
Probably one of the better explained videos I've watched in a while.
Explained it, gave visuals and got to the point. There need's to be more teachers like you!
Plus, Mr. Anderson, you know your information, thank you!
this is one of the best explanation of polar molecules iv come across.
really well explained with the properties ,
At least watching four of your videos and taking notes then reviewing them
Its soooo helpful thank you very much!!!!!
ap biology, who else?
AP Bio finals tomorrow... who is with me?
Thank you!!!!!! :)
Mr Stratton got to be kidding me ... watching these vids.
Thank You!!!!!!!!
very Solid
2023 AP test here we go!!

This is not very good I think it needs some Hype or excitement.
Hi everyone taking AP bio
wait, im in regular bio at my school
what’s AP biology

Mr. Anderson is an angel of AP Bio
I'm taking AP bio
Taking the AP Bio exam in 2020.
Good luck to anyone else who's taking it this year too!
same, good luck to you too!
I have to watch this in 9th Grade Honors Biology
I got a 3 :/
2022 gang! Any advice on studying?
@@PlayerNotFound68a 3 is literally passing
My science teacher got me here
your profile pick is how I feel right now.
NAWW who else did
Same
AP bio pull game right here :))
@Anne George samee, goodluck!!
Properties of Water stated in this video: Cohesion, Capillary Action, Ice Floats, and High Specific Heat. Good Luck with your Homework!
lol that's exactly what my teacher told me to find. Thanks!
He also discuses Hydrogen Bonds, just an FYI
thx
Imagine if he was your teacher. I'm sure I would understand science for once because he explains it so well.
OMG, THIS GUY IS ACTUALLY THE BEST TEACHER ON THE INTERNET. Almost everything I am learning in highschool is explained on this channel. Thank you so much Anderson!!
oooooooooooooooo
you're in bozeman so thats why its bozeman science...
5 years later... haha
10_Bruno_10 bruh i just got this
736K Subs with no verification
Because Science
you have to file that, you know; they mustn't care or something; how else would Veritasium and ASAP Science be verified
when your teacher forces you to watch this
Thank you. Please don't stop teaching because of all the haters... You're amazing!
I still fell so confused, I'm helpless. x_x
I love your lessons! You're a fantastic teacher. Thanks for sharing.
Good one, thanks. : )
WHY CAN'T YOU BE MY TEACHER?!
AP BIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
#wetoofaded #grindinondatwood #gettindatpaper #IDidntChooseAPlifeAPlifeChoseME
iLikeToWiZ lmao yep. I have it for freshmen year
yeah totally
Honors bio wooooooo
Who here in 2018 because they teacher made you watch this?
Tip to students being forced to watch this: click on the options button (cog at the bottom right) and you can change the speed at which the video plays to get through it faster.
3 years later and this is very helpful UwU
if we find life on Europa would we call them Europeans? :)
Trying to learn AP environmental Science and Mr.Bozeman advise us to watch this video if we don't have strong background knowledge. However, I don't take that many notes than I usually do. Wondering is that okay....
very helpful. thanks.
I wonder why the hydrogens are not sharing electrons with oxygen in a manner that keeps them diametrically opposed. Why does the molecule have to be polar?
Mind blown.
I've always wanted to know about ice floating! I've heard about CGP Grey being fascinated by how trees bring up water! I wondered if hydrogen becomes charged because its electrons are pulled on more, but this explains everything!
that was so halpful I allready watched like 15 videos from you...fingers crossed cause I write biology tomorrow ;)
Yes!! This is the explanation I needed! Lol no one was telling my WHY Oxygen was more electronegative
this is an old video but thank you very much, made things easier to understand.
Any ideas in software programs that are used to present 3 D chemical compounds ? I like the way you explain science Mr. Andersen.
I go to Whitefish High and I love my teacher but sometimes I just don't understand; these videos are an AMAZING way to review what we are learning!
Very fascinating teaching, it didn't leave me to pause or stop this video.
6 years later and students still being forced to watch this...
Mr. Andersen says that the increase in electronegativity to the right is due to an increase in protons and thus an increase in positive charge. I don't get it. Don't these atoms not have a charge? They're not ions.
Thank you so much Mr.Anderson! Super helpful and very comprehensive! Thank you❤❤
bro your videos also help IB students, your teaching is amazing pls don't stop
can someone give me ten facts about this video thanks lol
Super helpful! Thanks!
Thanks! I have a 7 year old scientist 😀
At least watching four of your videos and taking notes then reviewing them
I’m just learning, UA-cam can teach almost everything. And here I am , why , just because
PD: awesome video
Sensei bozeman you are the best
legit just taught me everything I learned in the past month in 8 minutes and 36 seconds
My chemistry confusion triggered me here.. And I wasn't wrong anyways.. Tysm
I understand AP bio finally
i think you would score a 45 on the mcat you should definitely take it to be the fist to do so.
A wonderful video. Thank you.
this is the first video that he's made that I've watched that is over 360p in quality. 😍
Woah um
ahhhh, you changed the video just enough so that the worksheet I made to accompany this video doesn't quite work any longer.
Wow, this is really helpful!! Clear explanation :) thank you
ps watched it on the World Water Day
Thank you so much for posting these. I really appreciate your hard work! Please keep on going!
this video was beyond helpful. Thank you!
that was really helpful. Thanks Mr. Anderson
Mr anderson is the heimler of ap bio
AP Bio class of 2022-23 wya?
YuRRR
Hi
wow i cant believe mr anderson invented biology
Thank God for UA-cam!!🙌🏾 Such a great explanation
AP bio?! Shit I'm watching this for regular chemistry, damn guess I'm in the wrong class.
But I did really learn a lot from you
what is the non polar molecule you mention in the video? water is polar but what is the non polar one?
this was kinda pog champ tbh. like i think it was the best anime ever. ngl.
I may be forced to watch this, but you do this all so well.
That was indeed most helpful. Thank you sir!
All the IB Students should watch his physics, chemistry and biology videos for a better understanding of concepts!
Great video!
this wasn't helpful
Everyone here is talking about AP bio yet I'm here watching this in Honors Bio
Wow, was that good! He is the best at simple elegant explanations of what can be complex issues. Thanks a lot from a 76 year-old who loves learning new things.
Hello, I know your doing your Ap Bio Homework Late before 11:59PM. Or your probably a student athlete who just woke up from a nap or procrastinated for a long time!😂😂😂
Thanks so much. Finally, I found a UA-cam channel to clear my confusion about chemistry.
guys the AP test is in 5 days from now and I'm barely starting to study and I hardly ever read the book during the school year, I'm cooked 💀💀💀
Mr. Bozeman, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You make teaching a lot easier.
Love it!! Very helpful....Thanks!
Just after 3 mins you show surface water, surface water is very negatively charged and is different from the water below, this is why surface water has a skin 👍🏼
this video hurts
your videos are lifesavers, thank you for taking your time to make these.
I love how i can just watch your videos just for fun! Even when i don't have any revision to do! Love your videos Mr Anderson =D
Beautifully explained in this one.
Im so mad...
Why is there no intro music????
I think I'm in the wrong place
Halp
I was sent by a teacher but this isn't the right video because nothing matches the questions on my paper
It's 9:30 I'm gonna go cry in the corner
Okay I just asked my friend apparently this is the right video
Mrs.Fiello made me watch this. XD
Mr. Weaver's AP Biology class represent!
So water is polar because the hydrogen atoms have no formation
Super helpful, much love
I love ur teachings man, it's really helpful
Great explanation!!!
